What if YOU ran the Pokemon Anime?

There's a thread like this on Serebii so I thought, "Why not?"

Many fans wish that certain things in the Anime went their way that it deserves a thread.

As the title implies, I'm asking you what you'd do if were in charge of the Pokemon Anime from the very beginning. How would you write, direct, produce and/or executive produce the animated adaptation of the Pocket Monsters (Pokemon) video games. How would you write the stories or develop the character that you hope to entertain people of all ages with?

This is all for fun and for exercising your imagination as well.

Me? I'd have a separate storyline and set of characters for each generation rather than having just Ash travel the world with his friends. Let's face it, seeing the same set of characters gets annoying and tedious so why not change things up Doctor Who style? Some would disagree, yes that's ture but with the correct writing, it can work (for the most part).

Also, I'd make the main characters smart and resourceful from the start while leaving certain aspects of themselves to be developed through their experiences as trainers. In other words, Ash wouldn't make such noobish mistakes as he would've studied about the basics of being a trainer as well as certain other things. In my version of the Anime, you'd have to study the basics to become a traveling trainer and have to meet certain requirements to become such. As such, I'd make the characters more three dimensional and likable through their dialogue.

I'd also make each character of each Gen. Anime win their region's league. After all, it's not just whether they win or lose, it's all about the buildup and development for the story that helps them achieve their goals.

But enough about me, let's hear your ideas. Remember that you're working from a clear slate so there's no Ash (unless you create him from scratch).

Now then, fire away, guys!

For starters, I'd give the characters more quirks. Ash doesn't really have one, Misty had the dislike of bugs, Brock had a huge family, May had "May's Adventures!" or whatever, Dawn had her catchphrase, Iris always calls Ash a kid, and Dento has flamboyancy. Those are nice and all, but I feel the characters need more unique traits to give them dynamic personalities. (Quirks =/= personality in this case. Personality would be like Misty's short temper, May's self-confidence issues, etc.)

Also, I'd throw more challenges the protagonists' way. DP improved with Team Galactic and Hunter J, but Team Rocket being the villains in most filler episodes throughout the show gets tedious. There should be robbers and criminals, more poachers, etc. Environmental issues are also interesting (ex.: Promoting Healthy Tangrowth).

Next, there would be more mini-tournaments. If I was using a character that wasn't earning badges and ribbons, they'd need some form of screen time. Misty and Brock suffered from this severely, especially during mid-Johto. Misty had the Seaking Catching Competition and Whirl Cup, but that still wasn't enough. Brock got the cosplay contest in Sinnoh, along with the Tag Battle Tournament, but again, not enough. Max was slightly affected by the lack of side tournaments, but he didn't have any Pokémon to use, anyways.

In addition, the characters would deal with more serious issues, and may even be older (fourteen or fifteen) to increase the number of troubles possible. Teenagers struggle with dating, friendships, depression, cheating (though I wouldn't use the kind associated with dating...ick), etc. A ten-year-old wouldn't have nearly as many problems, or at least I'd hope not. I wouldn't let these trials overshadow the more important parts of the show like battling, though.

Lastly, I'd make sure each Pokémon has a distinct personality. AG and DP did pretty well with this, but some Pokémon still didn't receive the same amount of depth as others. I would also try to develop them all in some way, with each type of development being different from the other. The biggest flaw development-wise in DP was Infernape hogging screen time. I'd try not to let one Pokémon's storyline interfere with the others.

I would made the anime closer to the games with Ash being the main character of the original generation (Kanto and Johto), then having Brendan (as the son of professor Birch) for Hoen and Sevii Islands (Ash would temporarily rejoin the cast for the sevii Islands) then Dawn for Sinnoh with Lucas as a mentor (Lucas would a 16 year old veteran pokemon master). Also the characters would age so we would actually see Ash as a 14 year old in the Sevii Islands arc.

Also the organisation Team Rocket would have larger and more serious impact on the series especially in the original with Jessie and James having occasional successful schemes. In some episodes they even deliberately provoke Pikachu into blasting off so they can escape with their gains scott free.

I would replace Ash.

Or make it more like a show with only Pokemon, no humans. Think of it like the Island of Giant Pokemon episode. I'd kind of prefer it in subtitles instead of them talking in English like in the mystery dungeon specials.

I'd keep the anime just the way it is, except I would make one difference: Ash would have metal armpits.

Oh yeah, blah blah blah, create story arcs within a saga, cut down on the filler by giving the neglected characters time to shine, all that crap.

I would end Ash's story with Best Wishes, with him entering the Champion league.

Gen 6 would be an all-new cast and continuity.

I'd absolutely destroy all the older fandom's opinions and ideas and do what ever it took to sell toys and games while bathing in 100 YEN BILLS while continuing to whip my own ass clean with 5 dollar bills.

Ewwww.

- Expand on a certain neglected character more.
- More mini-arcs. The tag battle was fun, but we needed more than just that.
- More interesting personalities and we get to learn about characters backgrounds more than just a few episodes. For example, we never REALLY expanded on the whole 'brock used to be a gym leader thing' and they just made him useless.

more whirl cup-like compititions :) grass cup, ground cup, fighting cup, fire cup ect.... hmm the fire cup could actually be called the ash cup XD which he would win obviously (charizard+infernape ftw) then the elite 4 guy from sinnoh (the fire one) comes along and says hes very impressed ect... ash then catches victini which he uses to win the pokemon league defeating the darkrai trainer. then the elite 4 guy from before asks him to take his place becoming an elite 4 person which ash accepts.... and to finish off ash catches ho-oh and becomes the champion which ends his storyline.
then a new cast takes over with ash taking a cynthia role.....
oh and i want pikachu to evolve and pwn everything in sight... maybe in a team rocket fight against giovanni or raichu's the one to defeat ho-oh in the first place so ash can catch it

Cool idea...in theory. In practice, wouldn't they get kinda rusty whenever he sweats? :p
That kid just stands around and tells animals to set each other on fire - how would he work up a sweat? :p
But I see what you're getting at (and thanks for pointing that own, this could have been a plothole.) They would be water-proof, and he'd have to maintain them every week, off-screen.

I wouldn't want to run the anime, but I would make a spin-off show for the Rocket trio.

(What else did you expect?)

I'd make it closer to the games, get rid of Ash, and have a different protagonist that is in the most recent game for each season, kinda like Pokemon Special :)

I'd do that and make sure each character can appeal to the viewers and receives the proper development they deserve will they're on screen so they don't seem wasted.

Lets see... now i would one, get rid of ash(i dont hate him or anything its just that he`s been the main protaginist in pokemon for 14 seasons. It would be nice to have someone new)two, more team rocket based episodes (well what do you expect from a person like me who loves rocketshipping and team rocket... more TR epsiodes = more love  ) and finally, i would like to have a kinda spin off series where the viewers can see what other characters, who arent really in pokemon anymore, are doing now, (eg. brock).

If I ran the Pokémon anime, I would take a lot of suggestions from the members here of the forum so no one would complain anymore. <3

I'd make it a bit more mature. This doesn't mean I'd remove all the younger aspects of it, just that I'd adhere to the A:TLA model of "Balance bright colors and fun action and goofy banter with broader themes and deep characters". I'd also toss Ash for a more interesting character, strip down on the amount of filler (which they seem to be doing with Best Wishes anyway, but whatever), and do more to make it seem like something more than a vehicle to sell merch. I (mostly) like the anime for the same reason I like (some of) the manga: it provides a different take on the in game universe. I'd try to emphasize this difference more.

If I ran and wrote the Pokemon, I'd make interesting and maturer with TR actually being considered an actually threat instead of comedy relief. Also I'd actually have the Gym Leaders and Elite Four actually DO something and bond a bit with Ash and crew.

Giving Steven a bigger role like he did in the games; he deserved more screen time and introduced Wallace a bit earlier into the series.

Make Dawn useful and interested, also have the origins of Hunter J plus Riley and Ash bonding.

Oh, and the most important reason: eliminate any possibility of Alexandriashipping happening.
