Writers' Workshop General Chat Thread

Anyone have that problem where they all of a sudden become unbearably exhausted the second they sit down to do any writing? Between that and a lack of solid ideas, I'm almost tempted to say that some greater force is conspiring against me and telling me to stop being an author.

Yepp. I've found that I HAVE to write before 9PM to get any decent amount of work done, otherwise I sit down and am immediately ready for bed instead.

I'm a bit the opposite. I'm always super distracted when I try to write during the day, and it's normally only at like midnight that I feel the inspiration to write. I can only ever manage an hour max though before I make myself go and sleep :p

BTW, voting is open. We haven't had any votes yet which I hope means people are reading a lot, but we have had a significant drop in active members recently so we sort of need people to be as active as possible. So yah, cast your votes people!

I find it next to impossible to write during the day. It's like my brain doesn't work in a creative capacity unless I'm all ready for bed and the lights are off.

I'm not exaggerating at all when I say, I've written the entirety of The Power Inside on my phone or tablet from a lying position in bed or couch.

Same here, and for a lot of people I talk with. Is there a biological reason why our creativity is boosted at night? It doesn't make sense.

I usually have to wait for the internet to calm down so I don't hav a lot of distractons, and then I find it easier to make myself stare at the screen and start typing.

I don't know, I've always felt more sort of... at ease, I guess, at night for no clear reason. Makes it easier to relax and just get on with something for sure, but it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me either.

I don't have problem in the writing timing because I'm always eager to write my fic whether it is morning afternoon or night. But I have very big problem when it comes to where I write(type) my fic on.

I have two laptops, one is for my personal use containing so many things related to anime/manga/games/light novels, and another one for my Real-Life work that contains only the working files and many office softwares.

Although my fanfic is very obviously personal things, but I found myself always getting distracted to my other leisure hobbies if I sit with my personal laptop. So for many times I actual wrote my fic on my working laptop instead, which is completely free of other distraction except the internet connection. I'm not someone that likes to do any social networking, so internet is not too much of a distraction. If I need to, I may also as well shut down the internet connection in order to further concentrate on the fic only.

I believe George R R Martin writes on an old word processor or ancient computer that is without internet access to prevent him being distracted, though it apparently does nothing to ensure he hurries along.

It's obviously not working, given his many many other interests.

I hope another book turns up soon. I'm sick of only hearing about and discussing the story as an ever-increasingly trashy TV show

I've thought about doing this, and in fact I'm probably unplugging the internet for a week solid pretty soon. It's worked before for getting things done and if it works this time, maybe I should do it more often.

Well, I always write with background music from Youtube on, so not using internet's not really practical for me. It's a good idea though, I can definitely see it being useful. I'm much too easily distracted most of the time.

Hopefully not before judging ;)

I'm going to keep bringing it up until someone does it, but we are still without votes. You can edit/update them later if you are still reading stories from certain categories, but it would be very reassuring to at least have a few in now. So yeah, please vote!!!

Also, new Pokemon unveiled today. I always get bored of seeing first stage Pokemon first since they are usually so bland. I wish they woudl show off evolutions before the games come out.

It's starting to look like that, actually, there were a few internet-related things I wanted to get done before taking a break and I just finished off all but one of them. I think tomorrow, the plug comes out and I get back to the basics.

(until I need some reference material from Bulbapedia)

Though I might actually be back before judging begins? We'll see what happens. I might actually enjoy having no internet for a change.

Got to say, I cringed so hard when the first wild pokemon they ran into was a ledyba. After that lengthy interview and quite a bit of waiting around on the gameplay screen, they really needed that first encounter to be something new and interesting.

That being said, the new pokemon we've seen look okay. Seems we're just getting the basic 'early rat/bird' ones so far, though, it would've been nice to see some more interesting new stuff. They seem to be hiding something with one of their evolutions, though, I swear as soon as one of those pokemon was caught, they quickly cut to a different screen rather than show off that new screen the pokedex has where it informs about related pokemon.

Edit: Got to say though, I like the new battle interface a lot.

I hope that we get some new evolutions to old Pokemon, and not just mega evolutions. I really liked how Sinnoh added a ton of new permanent evolutions to some fairly dull Pokemon, and it would be nice if they did the same here. There are still some bland Pokemon from the first four gens and even more got add in 5 and 6 that I think some better evo's could definitely help with.

I've heard some very light speculation about things I'd be interested in. I try not to get my hopes up and just take the games as they come, though. I want to enjoy pokemon the way I always have. But yeah, I've talked to some people about the rotom pokedex being a pokemon speech translator, Sun/Moon somehow being an X/Y sequel (I guess they had one planned but the demand for R/S/E remakes pushed that aside), etc.
