Official Pre-Pokémon Sword & Pokémon Shield Speculation & Leaks thread

Why the "Pokeball missing" thing is brought up again? It's a mechanic that doesn't belong in the games.
To be fair, it brings a sort of realism into it. A real pokemon wouldn't just stand there while you throw stuff at it, hence why you weaken it to slow it down. Also it's weird that a game called "Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee" give said two away as gifts. You'd think there'd be a story purpose for them

That’s true, although while a bit bland, it works with the fact that they two wouldn’t be the starters. But I think there should be a better story reason behind Pikachu and Eevee’s presence.

Hopefully we’ll know soon enough.

^Exactly why I think the "leak" isn't real. Why would someone just give Pikachu/Eevee away and then... nothing?
If the game is gonna be a yellow remake, I want them to give away the kanto starters like they did in those games. Or even better, have them be wild encounters, but hard to find ones.

All plausible besides to me the starter one and how you receive Pikachu or Eevee. If you want to reimagine Yellow Pikachu and Eevee should be the primary starters the later on you can get the Kanto starters.

I just had a thought about Gen 1, what if Pokemon Yellow is the cannonical Gen 1 game? Because in the Johto games, Red seems to have all three Kanto starters plus Pikachu.

The only way I could see a revisit to Kanto would be a complete redesign of the region, not a Ctrl-C & Ctrl-V of the Kanto maps from previous games; new routes, new towns and of course more Pokemon to catch per area.

And in order to not stray too far from Gen I, keep the same characters but redesign them to show that time has been going on, like what they did with Red and Blue in Gen VII.

and please bring back DexNav, that thing was a life saver in ORAS :c

I still don't believe that they'd change Kanto so dramatically. I can definitely see changes but like... a disaster that caused *that* much damage? I don't I can't really swallow that idea.

I can see them replacing Brock (a nod to the anime), Viridian Gym's new leader, and Blaine's gym. So that would be 3 new gym leaders in total; depending if anyone's gotten a promotion (possibly replacing Bruno, Will, Karen and/or Koga).

I think it’s plausible that Yellow is the canon game due to the reasons you mentioned plus Red also has the Snorlax that was blocking the road and the lapras from silph co.

If Pokemon can be seen in the overworld, there's really no need for the DexNav. It would be curious to know how they managed the encounter rate...I mean, Pokemon with 1% rate (let's say feebas) will show up only once in 15 minutes? How will it work?

The Snorlax and (Espeon/)Lapras aren’t specific to Yellow, though, so those ones are irrelevant.

I think, far more than Game Freak giving any particular shit about saying which version is “canon” (the truth: all of them, in some universe or another), they simply didn’t want to play favorites when designing Red’s team, since Red was supposed to be an avatar of the player, and there’s no sense in appealing solely to the people who picked Charmander or whichever. Besides, it’s just as plausible that Red traded with other people for the remaining Starters and caught a Pikachu in Viridian Forest, just as Red in Pokémon Origins must have done in order to complete his Pokédex. Or, for that matter, as the RGB players themselves must have done.

Nothing else from Yellow(Jessie and James, Giovanni using a persian ect...) was carried over to future games though, so i don’t think you can consider it the cannonical version.

She became an actress in BW2. That’s a pretty good reason to make her leave her gym.
Then again Diantha is an actress and still Kalos champion at the same time there's nothing to say you can't have multiple hobbies which Gen 5 proves of course but then again there's also Brycen as well in BW2(but he was already an actor though) I doubt the leak is real though.

Another thing I hope this and future games will do, and this will be a bit long winded, actual acknowledgement of your partner pokemon in the story. Allow me to explain, your starters pokemon is not only the first of your team, but also your first friend, your partner. Yet throughout the years, until sun and moon, choosing your starter didn't feel all that special. You just picked one and that's it, free to do with it as you please, no sense of friendship and comradery. It was until Sun and Moon that made the process felt like a legit start of a friendship. The fact that the pokemon you chose had to accept you as a friend first felt nice, like the beginning of something great, and it helped you feel more close to your pokemon. Granted that didn't last the whole game, but it felt even better with the inclusion in USUM, when you r starter pops out it's pokeball to stand beside you at the entrance of the league. It was a nice feel good moment, and I want even more of that sense of friendship in future games. Something similar to what your rivals get. Like Silver having his starter walk beside him after he understands friendship, or Hau as his starter constantly walks with him, or even Wally and his Ralts. I want that kind of acknowledgement of partnership throughout the story of every game for now on.
