POPULAR: Need a Name Thread

Question is, if you were planning a new, optimistic Celadon, would you plan for a red light district? I mean, you might do, if you lived in the sort of society that tries to regulate that sort of thing. Otherwise it's probably more likely that the run down areas were originally meant to be a real improvement (The projects, as it were)

Would it make sense if it was built for the purpose of proper entertainment, but lack of oversight/regulation's led it to be what it is now? I don't imagine it's unreasonable that some areas/cities aren't capable of rebounding back 100% after a war, but worldbuilding's not my forte and this one-shot's in the very early stages of planning, so. xD

It could make sense. When I was in Vegas a couple years ago, I passed by some pretty seedy looking places in what appeared to be once prosperous parts of town. I doubt any of the places actually functioned officially as brothels (since prostitution is illegal in Henderson County) but it wouldn't surprise me if that was the place you went to find that kind of entertainment.

There could be a lot of variables. If the city is large and isn't specifically a tourist attraction that'll have a lot of eyes on it, corruption is easy to take hold and city officials will start to look away from things like that. Alternatively, your interpretation of Celadon could simply be an open and accepting place, like Amsterdam, where they have an official red light district (which is supposedly extremely beautiful and well maintained).

I've thought about it a bit more, and my interpretation is kind of a mix of both. There'd be a large focus on horticulture, agriculture, and medicine in my Celadon in one district, extremely well maintained with parks, national forest preserves, etc. I'd scrap a full on red light/slum district for the second one and go more into entertainment and tourism with the game corner, theaters, museums, etc. This district isn't Celadon's main focus or selling point, but it does add to the overall "appreciating the beauty in life" motif, and Team Rocket would be able to manage a foothold in the city without extreme scrutiny from city officials, however temporarily. The third district would still be economic (headquarters for Pokémon Centers, as an example).

Anddd with all that, I think that solves the little holes the naming of the districts, and they can reflect what they were rebuilt for after the war

I have an idea for a Pokemon/My Little Pony crossover that involves Wes and Rui being turned into an Umbreon and Espeon, respectively, and ending up in a lawless ramshackle town in the middle of the desert. What should I call it? Preferably, something related to change.

I should've specified that the surname I was looking for should be Hispanic. I originally did, but I edited it out because I felt awkward.

Also, I need to come up with a naming scheme for a wild group of Piplup's evolutionary line. They act like aristocrats, and I don't want them to have normal human names.

For this I suggest using the Behind the Name site, since it has given and surnames in spades for nearly every language and their meanings.
If you want a suggestion, I like Azarola the best out of the names I've found. It may possible be a way to say fox in Hispanic languages, specifically from Basque.

I need names for male and female characters for a Pokémon fanfiction. Basically, it's about a group of friends who are separated and transformed into the Sinnoh starters. The protagonist is George, who becomes a Piplup, named after the guy who first described emperor penguins. The other two are a boy who becomes a Chimchar, and a girl who becomes a Turtwig. What kind of names could I give them?

@Rockium So I was looking at the surnames website, and discovered that Reyes means "king", which would actually be quite fitting for the character. Carlotta Reyes has a nice ring to it.

(Context: I've been daydreaming up a rewrite of Power Rangers SPD, and most of my ideas are focused on fleshing out a really underbaked canon character known only as Charlie, including giving her a full name. To cut a long story short, in canon, she's haughty, a leader, and most people assume she's a dude.)

...And now I'm remembering that Tumblr post pointing out that there was a 50% chance that we could have gotten Fullmetal Alchemist characters named King Mustang and Roy Bradley.

Keeping in line with the scientist theme:

Chimchar: Christophe (from Christophe Boesch - Wikipedia), Eugene (Eugene Cussons - Wikipedia), Nim (Nim Chimpsky - Wikipedia)

Turtwig: Ridley/Riley (Ridley sea turtle - Wikipedia), Harriet (Harriet (tortoise) - Wikipedia), Malila (Tu'i Malila - Wikipedia)

I've since abandoned that plot bunny, but I need a name for another character I've already written in the same setting.

He's a My Little Pony deer, and I want his name to fit in. For context:
  • The generic whitetail-ish deer in the comics are named after trees.
  • The only named deer in this AU setting is called "deer" in Latin. I don't think they're based on the comics' deer.
  • Only three reindeer have appeared in the show, and their name is a collective pun on "aurora borealis". We shouldn't worry about their naming patterns unless others appear in season 9.

@Nitro Indigo You could try naming him after some non-tree plant like a type of flower, grass, hay or moss. Lichen aren't plants, but they'd fit a reindeer, as it's a pretty important part of their diet.

So I was wondering something and thought that it was a bit too specific to start a discussion thread over and that this was the best place to mention it. You know how there are plenty of surnames that are or incorporate names of different animals? (I've noted that this is more common in Northern Europe where I'm from than English-speaking countries, but surely you know what I'm talking about anyway.) You'd think that there be people out there with mon-themed names.

As for a question about that: My universe has a certain question mark on that. You see, mon can be civilized alongside human beings, although wild mon exist aplenty too. Would you think that would discourage such names? For humans, mostly, but also for species that aren't of the one their name refers to.

Still can't think of anything. I thought that naming someone after food is weird, but then I remembered that I'm writing a My Little Pony fanfiction.

I assume your Pokémon fanfictions are grittier, though, so naming people after sentient beings sounds weird... until you realise that there are a lot of names that mean "man" in the real world.

The other day, I finally came up with a name for the deer: Faunus. It sounds like "fawn", and is basically the masculine version of fauna, which goes with his friend, Flora. Fauna is also the name of a similarly-coloured deer in Animal Crossing. He's also the Roman god of agriculture and some other stuff.

I find it hard to name male characters, but I can easily come up with names for female characters on the spot.
