i do count the two mysterious posters in the gamefreak office of sun and moon to be hints
the calendar pic in many of the houses in lgpe could simply be referring to detective pikachu or gen 8
i think the over priced crown may also be a hint if not a reference to detective pikachu

I... totally managed to forget about the posters. XD I agree on those being hints. They don't really point to any location, though, so they're more ORAS yellow and blue cushions level of "couldn't possibly guess it now" hinting.

I don't really think that crown item is a hint towards anything. Crowns are not an unusual item to be found when you're able to decorate or dress up something in a game. Animal Crossing has an expensive crown. There's already an accessory and a prop that's a crown in the pokemon games. There's also a crown sticker in the alola photo club you can put on your pictures.

Hell, even Digimon Story Cybersleuth: Hacker's Memory has a crown decoration.

That kinda design in a crown decoration's just a common dress up thing, and they're usually harder to get, a prize for a certain victory, or hella expensive.

Oh right, I forgot about that pretty expensive crown on AC. No matter how much money I saved, it was impossible to get for me. Even though I got everything else that day, the crown would keep being there.

I need to play AC again. Or a game that doesn't rely on luck to get stats.

What's this calendar thing people are referring to? I have no idea how to search this thread on the new forum version

Edit: Looks like the search option is gone temporarily. I'd also like to see the gamefreak office posters again if anyone can show them.

My favorite video game of all time right there. ♡

I need to make sure I finish it before gen 8 pokemon, though. I've been real lazy.

So, in regards to the posters in the GameFreak office... gotta point out that it's based on their actual office. It would seem amiss if they were to base it on their actual office and then put fake posters on the walls.

Their office in Sun and Moon, for reference.

You can see the colored chairs here-

Also the case with the games in it and their computers are in another part of that video. I also know a video with their whiteboard in it if anyone really wants to see everything. XP

Soooo unless those posters are meant to represent one of their other games, I can't see them making such a point of putting legit details from an office that most people wouldn't recognize and then putting fake posters on the walls... especially when they could have just left those spots blank or put more Sun and Moon posters up there and we wouldn't have missed a thing.

I doubt they're trolling fans with fake posters for lolsies so it seems more likely that they'd be a teaser.

It's a shame that all five posters are too pixelated to make heads or tails of anything (literally, lol). At least the tiki looked like a tiki. Though I find it weird that it says it depicts a guardian, but didn't end up looking anything like any of the island guardians.
Maybe the guardians changed during development, which is possible since we don't know anything about S/M's development (at least, Pokémon-wise).

I feel like it's possible they didn't really have much of anything decided other than the region. The hiker also mentions that the region he came from has a Champion that's really something else, which is a bit odd in retrospect since you are the champion. Maybe that's just me.

Edit: I just realized that X and Y probably take place before Sun and Moon, so there would not have been a champion.

The strange souvenir looks like a generic tiki, too. Wasn't it also suposed to depict one of the guardians?

It's possible they just changed the guardians last minute from actual tiki looking beings to creatures with body parts that resemble certain animals.

That wouldn't be surprising at all.

Just look at this:
115383
115384
115385

Then one year later (and a whole game scrapped) they turned into this:
115386
115387
115388

I think it's also possible that from the start wanted a tiki Pokémon but didn't have a finalized design, so they put something generic in the meantime. That might also explain why they mention a champion, since it's possible that they have not thought of the title fight at the time.

EDIT: Also, man, I forgot how generic the three at-the-time-dogs looked in the demo, and how weird Suicune was: you could give it hooves and it wouldn't look out of place in one of the older My Little Ponies.

the beta designs for the dogs were kinda cool. Super saiyan cat was probably turned into Luxray. Emo horse and naked arcanine could probably be reworked into designs for future generations.

Now that I think about it, if Rai and Sui are what Raikou and Suicune was going to be, then what the hell is this:

115389

I have no reason to believe that Muneo Saito was lying, but I can't think of any moment were that design was considered, unless:
a) En and Rai were not the first designs (possible).
b) It was at a moment between Sui and Rai's transformation into Suicune and Raikou (maybe?)
c) They considered scrapping the dogs and use one Pokémon that fitted at least 2 out of 3. Not sure how probable.

Also, the Bulbapedia article on beta designs is slightly outdated coughnotrecognizingthebetacough

EDIT: Note to self: Learn to word things better.

EDIT 2: I just noticed that not even the first Honoguma picture is in that article. C'mon Bulbapedia, the other wikis already have the information in ther pages.

Ever since the discovery of the Spaceworld 97 demo and even before that with the Shellos and Gastrodon sprites in the data for gen III. Gives a lot of insight on the process of choosing what stays, what changes, and what gets held back.

It's a shame we don't really have an outlet for that any more. Since the current demos have just been near final builds of the games. I would have loved to see the different types of non-animal tikis the guardians were supposed to be. Like what if they were walking tikis with big heads, huge mouths, and tiny bodies.

Not to mention if we had another situation like gen II Leafeon would give us a lot more to talk about then debating in circles.

It could have been an alternate design. Like I remember hearing in the early days they did the sprites first and designs second some place. When the game was scrapped they probably took the idea of changing Rai into more of a tiger and then stole the coloring for suicune.

Oh right, I forgot about that. This also crushes my dream of finding at least one piece of artwork from the Spaceworld era, specially since the pamphlet (is that the right word?) that they apparently used to promote the demo was lost, and the one we have is fanmade.

EDIT: I forgot. Thank you for reminding me that what could have been Shellos and Gastrodon's cry is in RSE's data. Now, if only we could the front sprites...
