Official Pokémon Sword and Shield speculation thread (Updated June 5th, 2019)

I think this is whats gonna happen:
2019: (Sword/Shield) gen 8
2020: Lets go Johto
2021: Third Version, sequel for sword/shield
2022: Gen 9
2023: Diamond/Pearl Remakes
2024: Gen 9 third version/sequel, last pokemon game for switch

They’re not going to release Pokémon mainline games/remakes for 9 years straight.

People need to realize. Let’s go was completely 90% outsourced to different studios to make. Check the credits of game. Game freak gave the ideas but they didn’t physically make it. It was group effort and I’m sure they do that more often than not

Also 2021 is 25th anniversary of Pokemon. I’m sure they wanna do some nostalgia game

That could work sure but 2021 would fit better for LG2J in my opinion as it's exactly 3 years after LGPE and also the 5th anniversary of Pokemon Go which I'd assume they would want to celebrate.

I also see Let's Go as fillers for gap years, so would be before Gen 9 in 2022.

2015 was a gap year and fans weren't happy but they did have a standalone Super Mystery Dungeon game that was quite a substantial release, although they had to get an outside company to produce this. I think it's reasonable that with their team expansion they decided to fill the gap years in house with quick and easy to produce let's go games with limited Pokemon and mechanics.

LG2J would likely be on the same engine as LGPE, only have the original 251 (unsure on Meltan/Melmetal) and not have any HGSS additions like Pokethlon, Sinjoh, or Battle Frontier.

I wonder if their opinion on DLC has changed upon moving to the Switch. If they have enough DLC ideas for SS, then they may not even try for a main series release next year.

People also need to realize that we just got Four games without a break year, which has never happened. 2020 is gonna be the break year. We get break years for a reason, since in the break year, the game directors/producers visit countries they wanna make following generation 9.

Gen 5: Black and White, Black 2 and White 2. Gen 7: Sun and Moon, UltraSun and UltraMoon, Lets Go Pikachu and Eevee
Gen 6: X and Y, OmegaRuby and Alpha Sapphire. Gen 8: Sword and Shield, Diamond and Pearl Remake, Let's Go Johto

It's just like what Game Freak hinted us about Rhymes, like the Nursery Rhymes in Pokemon Kids TV before Gen 8 was revealed of being London and the UK, and also Ryme City of Detective Pikachu, which the game came out before Gen 7, and now the movie before Gen 8. Course, Ryme does mean in Old English Cusp or edge, boarder, but you get how similar the words are.
Ryme City was already a thing before the Pokemon Kids channel was even made.

You told us there wouldn't be a game in 2018 we got LGPE, you told us we wouldn't get one in 2019 even though GF had said they would, we now have SwSh.
Not to mention the story, design and Pokemon for LG2J are already done. If using the same engine as LGPE, the required effort is minimal for something they then charge $40-$50 for.

I think 2021 will be Let's Go 2 Johto.
3 years after LGPE, Psychic Sabrina had a line about a trainer like you in 3 years (was not in FRLG) and 2021 is also the 5 year anniversary of Pokemon Go.
What a great way to celebrare it... -.-

My point wasn’t that I wanted a new game in 2020 but too say let’s go was huge effort by gamefreak isn’t true.

I think detective Pikachu 2 will be the big game for 2020. A spin off, It needs a sequel with how game ended and how much popular the movie is

I think they could to avoid a SwSh 3rd instalment or sequel.
There's nothing to really go with Sword and Shield. Pokemon Arrow? Pokemon Wand? I think we could see DLC even though I'm not keen on it.

I'm afraid you're right, DLCs is the way to go nowadays. Just look a Skyrim, BotW, Fallout 4 for examples. Even Spyro Reignited is to blame by just having the first game on disc, whilst downloading the rest from online.

I was referring to the Nursery Rhymes within the channel, and how it showcased London before Gen 8 was finally revealed.
What is the connection between the rhymes and Ryme City, then? Were you trying to say that Ryme City hinted that they would open a youtube channel dedicated to nursery rhymes?!

As long as it's not Pokemon SharpSword and Pokemon SturdyShield (in reference to UltraSun and UltraMoon)
Have mercy lord, anything but that!

Did not know that about Spyro!!! Was it free download? Saw something about KH3 (no spoilers please) not having the full game on the disc too, very worrying.

They wouldn't put Ryme City in the games. The point of Ryme City and Detective Pikachu is to show the Pokemon World outside of Pokemon trainers. Having Pokemon Trainers there goes against why Detective Pikachu was created in the first place.

Could these poor guys who work on let's go games go back and help the other team doing better things? Because remaking things for 10 years must be a very boring job....
I mean, while I still think we could have easly lived without let's go, I've always seen let's go as a possibility to bring the main serie to another level. Kids have their games, adults have their games with a mature plot and more complex mechanics and gameplay. At some point those kids could switch side and so on...But looking at sw/sh this is clearly not the case or at least not entirely...what a missed opportunity.

Detective Pikachu (Game) came out before Gen 7
Detective Pikachu (Movie) coming out before Gen 8

I look at the last four games since Gen 5 and noticed a pattern...

I somehow see this as a sort of Rhyming game. Although Rhymes do change words and themes, I'm just giving you the hints of what we would most likely expect.

Hey it's alright, the series is still growing and these are just the first steps, remember. =3 They'll work on it, it'll just take some more time to get there.

...you are not... making any sense, honestly.

23 years and we are always at first steps...I could not live enough to play the game they keep promising to make but never do.
