Hmmm... are we sure they didn't just see the trailer and make up information to go with it, if the date is possibly fabricated?
someone brought that idea up earlier and although it's always possible, i just don't think it would make sense.

eta: at best we can maybe hope that they misunderstood or misinterpreted some things, but i don't think they would intentionally combine an actual leak with false information.

So I'm convinced Charizard will get a new form. Every champion's ace pokemon usually are pokemon from the respective generation. Only exception was Diantha and hers was a mega pokemon. So if Leon follows suit, Charizard might have another new form
which would tie into that leak that mentioned Giga-whatever-max
I remember seeing a Mega Charizard Y around him when he was revealed so I doubt it’s transforming beyond its mega.

We’ve got a bit of good news regarding in game raid battles

Will an online subscription be needed to call these support trainers? I hope not..
Oh my, there goes my only real reason to not look forward to these games. Dammit, Game Freak, how dare you get my hopes up after gen 7.

I remember seeing a Mega Charizard Y around him when he was revealed so I doubt it’s transforming beyond its mega.

Wasn't there something about a special version of Dynamaxing called Gigantimx, where the Pokemon gets a new design?

pretty sure that's just Charizard.
I’ll try to recheck. It’s possible I just thought it was Mega Charizard since part of it was obscured by Leon’s body.
EDIT: checked and it’s regular Charizard. At one point it was positioned and obscured so much that it passed for Mega Charizard Y.

My bad.

Also for people wondering if all the battles are going to be Dynamax battles. Rest easy, they've shown regular wild battles and regular trainer battles comprehensively. I don't think they will cut them out now.

Speaking of Dynamax Mode (My way of saying it), I was kinda in the same boat of "Good god another Mega Evolution Ripoff...", especially when I saw the leak about 6 hours before the direct. However being an avid watcher of the anime of my youth, I remembered the episode where Ash, his friends and Team Rocket were stranded on an island WITH GIANT POKEMON. Way back in the old KANTO days, my friends. Ladies, Gentlemen and people of indeterminate gender - this has been planned from the start. I am amazed that it has taken this long to get giant pokemon (baring a scenario in Pokestar Studios, I think). Granted it might not look flashy, the time limit is lame and that one person out of four can access it in the wild - but it's GIANT POKEMON! How cool is that? We actually get to control GIANT POKEMON. If only I had friends that played pokemon as well...

First off I want to say that I respect what you’re saying. I think sometimes the arguments can start to sound overemotional and with only text it can be hard to tell sometimes so I want to make sure I establish that even as I offer pushback.

But for me, the fact that they’re giant is actually the main reason I can’t get behind this. I know size discrepancy has always sort of been a thing but having one Pokémon side be Dynamaxed and the other not just looks really awkward to me. And because of that this gimmick doesn’t seem to flow with the last two aesthetically well so I kind of don’t want them to be back but then I’d miss Megas too much.

That being said, from strictly a gameplay perspective it does seem to work better as people are saying. I need to get past my initial reaction and admit that I’ll probably still pick it up. But I really hope because of how it’s laid out that this Dynamax idea is only for gym battles and raids.

Again I didn’t have a lot of time to process but there’s plenty to like here. Corviknight and Wooloo particularly look really nice and I suppose the Pokémon are the most important thing to the new games. And as I mentioned earlier I do enjoy Sword Dog ;)

Edit: Also the battle UI looks really clean, even better than Let’s Go :)

What if Sonia is the Pokemon Champion in the end?

You mean if she maybe defeats and dethrones Leon before you? That would be a shame, to have her only be Champion for a short period of time...

Also, I rewatched the trailer and found a better shot of the Rotom Drone:

119252

It actually looks really cute, I'm surprised I like it. I wonder if it will also provide commentary during battle? Maybe it'll offer hints and tips for beginning trainers? Like: "Oh looks like it's Eldegoss against the challenger's Scorbunny. Milo better watch out for those Super-Effective Fire type moves!"

Also, when describing Hop, they outright use the plural "rivals" rather than the singular "rival", meaning that we are getting more than one rival in this game.

Sonia. She'll be like Dawn in DPPt.

I liked the Direct in general.
But did we need another battle-only digivolution? It def means Megas are sxrapeed. Will the game even have Mega Stones?
Also, why can't walking Pokémon stay?

Another thing that just came to mind. Does the double pack game set mean it'll be cheaper than both games would normally be? By that I mean is the double pack a better price than both games combined under normal circumstances (ie: both games are ~$60 normally, but is the double pack like, say, $100 instead of a combined price of ~$120)? If so, then I might consider getting the double pack, as I can stretch my store credit more efficiently. Plus it would ease the need to decide which game to pick first (and I always tend to get both versions either way, so it could just simplify things).
