Love the new Pokemon. Like, every single one of them. I'm glad we have an actual sheep Pokemon instead of a lizard with wool attached to it. I think that the turtle is underrated since most of the people view it as Carracosta 2.0. The characters all look good/great, no bad designs here. Although I don't get why Champion is wearing football gear on top of tights/cape or whatever XDXD.
So, those are indeed gym leaders and not gym masters. As far as I can tell, the only difference between them and the previous Gen's gym leaders is that they actually utilise the battle gimmick introduced in their generation.

The only thing that impresses me is the Wild Area, and even then, it depends on the size and whether or not you can do other things than catching. It feels like incoherent design because it doesn't apply to the whole map, and the rest of the game has overworld encounters that look weirder than LGPE's.

Dynamax is Totem Pokemon and Z-moves combined, sized up even more to fill worthy of stadiums. I hate it already, whereas I gave the previous two gimmicks a chance. Maybe completing the story without Dynamaxing even once would be satisfying, but if that's possible then the intended difficulty sucks.

Also there's no reason why they can't change that now and let a girl rival pick the Pokemon that's stronger than you- nobody who isn't completely off the deep end minds if there's a girl rival who gets the initial type advantage over you.

802+ wasted walking animations.

Actually, since the Pokemon walk around in the Poke Wilds, they're not wasted at all. It still sucks though, and I haven't lost hope that it will come back in a non-Let's Go game in the future.

They've never had a female take the super effective starter, so this could be different.
We're never had a female take the super effective starter that isn't the opposite gendered protagonist.
Then it becomes more to do with the fact that we haven’t had a female rival that isn’t the opposite gendered protagonist in the series.

I don’t think Sonia's going to be the rival or battle us often since she’s quite elder to the PC, and the rival is usually in a similar age group with the PC,

I somehow see the atmosphere being a repeat in similarity to X and Y to be honest...

The feel is just similar with the use of Gen 1 starters and Mewtwo.

Couple things:

I don’t think the “Rotom drone” is Rotom (unless someone has a better quality image of it that confirms it). It’s far too yellow to me.

Island of Giant Pokémon was definitely not in any way a precursor to dynamax. It’s far more likely to be a natural progression from Totem Pokemon.

I really hope that leak about the Gigantamax Pokémon changing form is true, because “same Pokémon but it’s a Macy’s Thanksgiving parade float now” is just such a lame cop-out. I dont have any issues with the mechanics of it, but it’s just visually so bland after the transformation.

Also, about that rumor that mentions "Gigantamaxing" among other things, no one knew about it until after the direct ended. It's possible that someone watched the direct, added in everything revealed and a bunch of random stuff, and then photoshopped the date to make it look legitimate.

Are we not counting Bianca? Unlike Shauna, Bianca had a reasonably solid team and a prominent character arc. Or do we just mean a female rival who uses the strong Starter?

Stop. The original leak was posted on Tuesday and i have a link. It wasn’t photoshopped.

Got to watch the trailer in its almost-entirety and feel much more comfortable about this Dynamax thing. They went out of their way to mention it’s only available in some areas so it’s not like Megas where they can be activated in every battle. I still wonder how the two will eventually interact when the time comes, most likely post-game.

My take on the direct:

-MUST. HAVE. SHEEPY.

-The 'Dynamax' mechanic, I'm indifferent about. At least it is canon in the anime, where many situations make oversized pokemon. Looking forward to making an oversized Joltik for the memes.

-The Professor has an awesome design, as if she may have been a Queen in her pastime! I sense she holds many secrets.

-The 'Wild Area' could potentially become the best part of the game! I actually gave a chance that most of the towns could all be connected to the wild routes here, when Bolt the Cat complained that the map would become too linear. Of course, execution of this mechanic is going to be the biggest question, given Gamefreak's history of squandering awesome-sounding features. Please don't screw this one up, as it truly could be a groundbreaking mechanic!

-The phone is the 'hazard fearure' of the game... I'm really annoyed about the body suits being a thing once again, and I hope that Rotom-Phone doesn't go all out clippy on us. >.>
