This is what I dislike most of all about the Prize Master thing and my biggest problem with the TRio in this particular series, none of them are actually bonding with these Pokémon. It's unbelievably jarring to come to this after how tight they got with Mimikyu and Mareanie...

Not even myself could have said that better. It's a freaking shame. It's all about Go this, Go that but what about Team Rocket, give them some love for gods sake.

Do you want Gou to be a Gary Stu? Or Gou-ry Stu? Because that’s how you get that..
This magical iteration of Gou you describe wins everything, catches everything even legendaries, fully evolved everything. What are his flaws? You’re decribing a Gary Stu essentially.

What? How does getting all three starters make him a "Gary Stu"??? By that logic Ash was in OS and BW. And Go has lost plenty of times and missed out on Pokemon

Not just having all three starters. Ash had flaws like his Pokémon disobeying him due to him doing nothing. What are Gou’s flaws in your vision right now? He’s doing everything perfectly in your posts..

Ironically, you just pointed out the series when Ash was literally at his worst/most flawed and the furthest you could be from Gary Stu status. A Gary Stu (or Goh-ry Stu) here is a character who is showcased as 'perfect' which is essentially what they've done with Goh. Even if he's missed out on some Pokemon or lost some battles, it's hardly affected him as a character and he's bounced back 'perfectly' the next time without any noticeable improvement on-screen.

For that matter, what would a Grookey Egg be doing at a competition in Kanto about eating in the first place? It's a somewhat ridiculous prediction.

They could just say that the Egg came from Galar to be a prize. Ash got his Riolu Egg in Vermilion City too.

And what improvement do you want Go to make?? Catching is his goal, he isn't going to quit just because of a few setbacks

Let me rephrase that question. What would an egg of a Galarian starter be doing at a contest related to eating which seems like it'll revolve around CotDs/PotDs (Blaziken, a subtle allusion to May's gluttonous nature) which takes place in Kanto?

With Riolu, Nurse Joy gave an explanation that it refused to hatch for a long time and was passed down from hand to hand at least until Ash's aura woke it up. And before you bring about another whataboutism example regarding Ash winning Phanphy's egg in a competition, it was a competition hosted by the Day Care in Johto in what is clearly a main line episode whereas this one has all the indications of being a filler.

I never said that he has to stop because of a few setbacks, but what he does needs some serious tweaking. Actually for that matter, he's not even had a single true setback till now, not even a single breaking point or major failure that made him really perform badly in any way.

At this point, it's completely up to the writers and judging from that interview posted by Beatsy a while back, it seems they're clueless on how to develop/progress the character properly.

Because why not? It would be a new and unique twist in a character getting a starter Pokemon. And the lack of Grookey merchandise isn't really an issue since it could just hatch five or ten episodes from now

Yeah no, you clearly have no idea how the merchandise/promotion works if you think this. So far, only Ash's captures have not been proceeded with excessive merchandise/promotion, excluding Riolu obviously. Grookey hasn't even been featured in any upcoming preview, like how Sobble was.

The only upcoming captures indicated so far is that of Koharu's Eevee, and maybe a Sirfetch'd evolution sooner or later. Grookey is pretty much MIA.

Or they could just simply be keeping the Grookey as secret for the competition. They don't need a preview or merchandise to show Grookey
