Anime What was the last anime you watched before posting in this thread?

Remake our Life! episode 1. Mixed feelings. On the one hand, it's very watchable in a season overstuffed with isekai. It's relatable insofar as I've been there, done that, in regretting choices made whilst being hardly more than a teenager. And likewise, I don't mind the optimistic attitude of the conceit, per se.

But on the other, it just reminds me of how anime seems to be allergic to writing stories about adulthood without also romanticising being a teenager. The setting might ring truer if it weren't for the problem of all anime teenagers basically acting the same way anyway - there's a subtle difference to being 'college-aged' as opposed to 'high-school' that I don't think I've seen anime manage to nail. I almost wish there was more of the conflict from being a tired, slightly world-weary adult among a bunch of fresh-faced, self-confident kids.

What exists so far of Record of Ragnarok. I kinda love it when anime and manga romanticise and cheerlead particular historical personalities in a way that few other media really would - it's cool to see larger-than-life personalities lifted from dusty tomes and have them kick arse in a modern context (this is something that the Fate series sometimes gets right when it's not simply being weird).

However, it rarely fails to tickle me that Jack the Ripper is such a go-to English fighty-person in several of these series. Perhaps it's because he's so strongly affiliated with a particularly conception of London, but domestically he's not much more than small, grim footnote.

Episode 1 of The Aquatope on White Sand, pretty much the anime I was most interested in this season. First episode was good, though I'll await more episodes for better judgment. The animation is gorgeous in any case.
Me about half an hour ago minutes ago looking at this thread "Oh, let's see what they're talking about I need new shows to watch.....Wait, I THOUGHT THIS WAS OUT TOMORROW!!" Drops everything to watch this.

What I've watch so far this week.

Miss Kobayashi's Maid Dragon S Episode 1-I wasn't planning on watching this season, though I figure what the hell not and enjoyed it. That new opening is a bop, like that a lot better than Season 1's OP, and now I need Tohru more in a office lady getup...No reason. Good to have KyoAni back outside of the Violet Evergarden movies.

And now The Aquatope on White Sand Episode 1- The next in the line of shows like Shirobako and Sakura Quest which were both one of my favorite anime of their respective years. I will admit this was very slow, though that should be expected for shows like this, I kinda wish the focus on the other girl who already works at the aquarium a bit more in tandem with our other lead which lead to slowness for me. BUT LET'S GO ANYWAYS!!!

I can explain this actually haha: Japan is hours ahead of the west, so a show that comes out in Japan on July 9 like this one may already be available in other parts of the world on July 8.

Glad to hear you're hyped for this show as well.

Yeah forgot that, I just thought the English Sub release was tomorrow but again forgot. I can be a tad dumb sometimes.

Episode 2 of The Case Study of Vanitas. Best girl Jeanne appears! Now I can finally see my favorite ship appear together (because Vanitas and Jeanne do care for and eventually love each other later anyway), and Noe and Vanitas have good chemistry as well; I think Vanitas is my new favorite tsundere in general. Once again very solid episode and amazing soundtrack, atmosphere is still 10/10, I think this series is gonna end up a solid 10 for me like with Pandora Hearts.

Finally got around to watching Backflip!! and finally getting around to finish Jobless Reincarnation. Both series are pretty great and fun to watch, still like Rudeus though probably not my top favorite isekai protagonist; and Shotaro is such a cute sports MC (though not as cute as Tetsuya, Ryoma, and Shoyo, but he's up there), I definitely feel for him during his routines that I kinda cringe with him lol.

Got up to episode 18 of Kyo Kara Maoh! last night. Gunter being extra as per usual for Yuuri lol, too bad his love (well that kind at least) isn't reciprocated. And Wolfram being tsundere (sorry you've been bumped down to second favorite now) towards Yuuri is still great, especially with the bear-bees situation; and then saying they're his and Yuuri's children lol. I almost forgot how in earlier episodes Gwendal starts showing his softer side more, not just with cute animals either.

Remake our Life! episode 2 - I may just take it back. My god, this anime is a throwback. Fanservice dumb as a bag of rocks, apparently aimed at teenage boys (Also dumb as a bag of rocks). Script is inelegant and a bit stupid. I think what gets on my nerves most is this attempt to convince me that Kyoya is 18 going on 28. He's not acting like he's mentally 28 - he's still a hormonal idiot, for a start.

Tokyo Revengers episode 14. It's funny, whereas I previously preferred the manga over the anime, that has now shifted a bit. I have been lukewarm on the latest few manga chapters, I've found them to be a bit on the sluggish and silly side (shame because this is supposed to be the final arc that ends the manga too, I hope the author didn't make a mistake by not ending things at the perfect moment the previous arc, and I hope the manga still ends on a high note).

The anime on the other hand, while I'm still not blown away by it, it has definitely grown on me. They've absolutely nailed the more dramatic moments. And the best is yet to come so I'm looking forward to that.

Started Love Live Superstar earlier this morning, now that the first episode is finally subbed. I gotta say, it turned out a lot better than I expected, with the lead character Kanon having a lot more depth right out of the gate than previous LL mains previously. But the jury's still out on whether I'll continue it, assuming it won't have sexual assault played for comedy. There is one thing I don't like about it: Keke's voice hurts my ears so bad because it's so squeaky and grating. It's not so unlistenable that it puts me off the series, but her voice actress really needs to dial it back a bit. Seriously.

I also decided to finally watch the dub for Sailor Moon Crystal now that its own Netflix. I had wanted to rewatch the third season of that, so this'll give me the incentive to do so.

So...it's still a little while before Arc-V world drops in the "Yugioh Duel Links" video game so I figured why not binge the second season of the anime ahead of time since I'm not watching much in the way of seasonal anime anyways.

The first two episodes really should have been the end of the last season since it works way better as a climax and cliffhanger but no matter. I really did enjoy Yuya losing to the Kaiba-clone Reiji to reinforce him being the commanding officer as well as Yuya having a long way to go dueling-wise.

I hear the consensus is that Season 1 was the peak of Arc-V and it only goes downhill from there. As for myself, I did enjoy season 2 more than the first...as a standalone story that is. As a sequel to season 1 though it was pretty weak - very much "are they still on Planet Namek?" sorta deal except replace Namek with the Friendship Cup by the time the plot remembers to kick in there's once again only ten episodes left in the season so everything is rushed to hell. You can really tell the writers loved 5DS as the Synchro Dimension got almost 50 episodes dedicated to it whereas I hear that Xyz and Fusion barely get into the double digits. Thankfully the CGI humans during duels are a lot less egregious on a static motorbike than when they ride their monsters and are bouncing about.

Like I said, I did enjoy what actually happened in this season. We got some good character development for a bunch of people as well as some fantastic duels which I felt season 1 was lacking somewhat - seriously the final battle between Yuya and Jack was hype as all get out, especially when you had all classes of society literally driving behind Yuya to cheer him on and they all shout out the final attack in unison...it brought a tear to my eye. Despite being very much the "Yamcha" of the group, Sawatari remains my favourite character so far, his duel against Yugo was another highlight because of the wackyness of dressing up his monsters in various outfits since his newest Deck has a theatre theme.

All in all, this season really could have benefitted from trimming out the fat. Instead of the whole prison break and then being sent into the Friendship Cup as punishment, the heroes should have entered the Cup right after getting arrested and the Cup itself should have only been half as long. That way we have more than enough time to deal with the whole "interdimensional war" that season 1 was building up to without rushing it.

Side note: Why the hell wasn't Mieru part of the Lancer team? Writers of this show, if your second season revolves around trying to find people, don't introduce a legit psychic with powerful clairvoyant and future sight abilities only to forget she exists.

I hear Season 3 is where things supposedly get really funky in terms of contentiousness so I am morbidly curious and might binge it before Arc-V comes to Duel Links in September.

Remake our Life! episode 3 - rapidly losing interest. The tone is still melodramatic high-school anime, except with the veneer of university slapped over the top. That might be ok, if it weren't also so vapid (SHOUTING CLICHÉS MEANS PASSION!!!)

Natsume Yuujinchou episode 2. I took a short break from watching anime and reading manga, and after being extremely let down by the Wonder Egg Priority special, I came back to Natsume for a little pick-me-up. It doesn't disappoint on that front, because one way or another you'll be invested in and touched by the stories of the different yokai. Also, I just love Natsume as a protagonist.

I finally managed to see Gintama: The Final, the final, final conclusion to the Gintama franchise. A good conclusion that feels like a proper farewell to Gintoki and co. There was one fight in the movie that was absolutely beautiful in both animation and drama.

Been while since I posted here so:

Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid S Episodes 2 & 3

The Aquatope on White Sand Episodes 2 & 3

And as of today, I rewatched one of my favorite slice of lifes, Flying Witch start to finish. Haven't watch it since the year it premiered. Really wish this show would get a second season at some point since there's more material. For those interested it is more like a tamer Kiki's Delivery Services abelit with a slightly older protagonist and the magic outside of flying is a bit more mundane than one would think.
