Hacking can be considered by some as giving an unfair advantage. Renaming you monster doesn't give you any type of advantage.

If you trade a monster from an NPC in a PKMN GBA game and then migrate it to a PKMN DS game, can you rename it?

It's a Japanese creation therefore, the real name is technically Pocket Monsters.
