I Just Bought PKM Crystal Over Ebay, Any Game Tips Before I Start Her Up?

I was just wondering if anybody has any tips, tricks, or comments about the game before I use it.
You know, recomendations to good walk-throughs or which starter Pokemon you believe is the best.

Got anything?
 
Alright. My friend recomended this peticular version to me, said it was one of the best. :) Hope she was right ...
 
it's probably the best of the pre AG games, but not as good as any GBA ones
 
I like some of the effects of the older games ( day and night to name one ) and the pokemon themselves. The new ones don't really work for me.
