If you could change one thing about these games (good or bad), what would you change?

1. Switch the map destination marker to the overworld version in Legends Arceus. It was much easier to follow.

2. Add actual outfits to character customization. I get that it's going for a private school thing but we spend most of the game outside of school so it's kind of stupid to keep us confined to the school uniforms which are all atrocious in Scarlet. Thank Arceus the DLC offered up something marginally better.

3. Extend the professor variation to the gym leaders and by association Team Star as was present in SWSH, perhaps even change a few teachers since it's supposed to be two different schools to make things a little more interesting.
 
#BringBackSWSHArtstyle The human eyes still do not like Sugimori eyes and the less said about the textures in the environment the better.

If that's too complicated then probably a less ambiguous indicator on what is the strength level of every one of the 18 challenges and some tips about them.
 
hope it's okay for me to comment here when i've only watched it, not played, but i'd bring back the individual elite 4 & champion rooms : ( they were always so creative and cool and honestly the best part of the elite 4 imo, and it was really disappointing to see all of the battles just happen in some huge blank white room instead.

Well, the question does not require that one has played either game, so you are fine. Watching a playthrough is fair game.
 
I personally ended up being ok with the outfit situation due to really liking the Uva winter uniform, but it WAS a weird step backwards. Especially after Legends: Arceus managed to offer variety while staying plausible* to the game's setting.

*(minus the Team Galactic outfit, but that was fun, deliberate anachronism. And also more variety.)
 
I wish team star actually held some sort of weight to them existing. I found the same with Team Skull and even Chairman Rose in SWSH. Where is the threat level? Answer: Anyone could deal with it - or at least that's how the game felt. The game was far too easy, with little to no stakes. To some extent I wish there was that sense of urgency like BW where yes, Alder is in trouble - and that shows you the strength of your opponent rather than it being like "Oh yeah these guys skip classes and bully people." Show me them causing issues instead of just saying oh yeah by the way.

So more stakes, some freedom but don't just take a whole plot and shove it on the end like an after thought would have made the game far better.
 
Add some more map markers so that we can determine where to go a bit easier instead of just the one and done that we have in the game. Otherwise, add some small side quests just to make the post-game a little more engaging besides the Tera Raid battles and the Ace Academy Tournament.
 
I feel like the games would just improve from a bit more on the map, it felt like there was a lot of empty space that could've had like a house and a cool interaction and then you move on, that and a bit more post-game to do.
 
One that just came to mind, I think it would great to be able to swap your trainer's gender on the fly.

Once you choose the frame at the beginning of the game, you're stuck with those pronouns. And I think that's a huge shame given some people will discover their gender mid/post playthrough with no way to change that. I personally know a couple people who transitioned and have regret the gender they initially chose for their trainer because of it. And of course there's genderfluid people where their preference can sometimes change on the fly. The game was heading in the right direction at least as all accessories and customization features are available regardless of the gender you chose, so that's a good start at least, but I do think it could be pushed just a bit further.

So just add a little gender toggle option when customizing your trainer. Heck, throw in some they/them pronouns while we're at it.

I've wondered before what Clavell would call a nonbinary student, because you know he'd want to be respectful. All I can think of is "ser" though but that sounds too formal and old fashioned even for him.
 
Things I would change, Teal Mask edition: I would do some small stuff with the story (mostly dialog additions/changes) to try to make the ending situation not entirely the player character's fault, but more of a mix of the PC fumbling a bit in the beginning and then Kieran being too quick to assume the worst.

--Have Kieran go home immediately after the first festival incident, where Carmine shouts over the PC's attempt to tell Kieran about the ogre. Carmine would serve the role of escorting the player out of the festival segment instead. It seemed really weird to me why that the player character didn't tell Kieran about the encounter at this point, once the two of them are out of Carmine's hearing. So I'd change it so the PC doesn't have the opportunity.
--The discussion with Carmine and Kieran's grandfather would play out the same. Carmine drowns out any potential attempts by the player to tell Kieran about the ogre and causes Kieran to run off.
--By the time the player next sees Kieran, at the third story sign, the PC is bound by the promise to Carmine and Kieran's grandfather not to tell the real story of the ogre. But, during this exchange in the game, Kieran tells the player he believes something very close to the true story already. I would change the player responses at this point to "I wasn't supposed to say this, but--" (i.e., the player is going to break the promise and tell Kieran anyway) and "Ask your grandfather about--" (i.e., the player is going to keep the promise but try to use a loophole to make sure Kieran finds out anyway). In either case, Kieran would cut the player off and tell them to get the photo assignment over with.
--In the confrontation at the Loyal Three's shrine, I would have Kieran directly ask the player why the PC didn't tell him the truth. Then I'd have the response options be "I promised your grandfather..." (true) and "Carmine wouldn't let me..." (also true). In either case, Kieran thinks it is a poor excuse since, being so strong, you should be able to do whatever you want regardless of what other people think. It seems like he develops this philosophy by the end of the story as-is, so this would be an opportunity to show the "might makes right" misunderstanding taking hold in his mind.
--The rest of the story would proceed as it does, unless (theory based on datamined info) Dokotaro really does start influencing Kieran's actions partway through the story. In that case, I would add a moment where Kieran tries to approach Ogrepon and she reacts in fear, sensing the boss of the Loyal Three inside him. Carmine and the PC would be confused and wonder if Kieran is coming on too strong. Once Dokotaro is revealed (in the Indigo Disk?), that would explain why Ogrepon doesn't gravitate toward Kieran despite his obvious care for her.

Also,

I would add a line to Perrin's dialog after she says the photos she took of the PC battling the Bloodmoon Beast are too blurry to be any good. "Oh, I know you can bring the Beast out of its ball for me...but that's not really the same as capturing the heat of the moment." Her acting like she'll never have another chance to take a picture of Ursaluna makes no sense when she KNOWS you caught it, so I'd change the dialog to indicate that she lost her chance to capture the dramatic moment, not her chance to take any picture of the Beast ever.

(Of course, this is my personal opinion of ways to make the story something that makes more sense to me; not trying to bash on anyone who likes the story as-is.)
 
I say this completely out of love for Scarlet and Violet - just make the game run better and have fewer glitches. The gameplay, at its core, is some of the best in the franchise. But I wish the game just took its players more seriously with its own quality.

Also, the plot of The Teal Mask is painful. I hate Carmine and being forced to lie to Kieran made almost quit playing it.
 
Here's a simple one: bring back Repels. Just make them time-based like sandwich effects, and while active wild pokemon don't react to your presence or initiate a battle on contact, but can still be battled by throwing a thing at them.

How's the gameplay at its best?

There are fewer endgame activities than past titles. The world is empty and shallow. I put a couple of hundred hours into SV and it surely has its enjoyable parts, but if you don't PvP there's not much to do. Raid battles are frustrating and a mediocre feature, at best.
