Kids would look for information if they are interested. However, if kids feel confused or alienated, it's pretty likely they won't look for information. That's why they don't want that kids need to see previous seasons.
That said, there are simple ways to introduce old Pokemon and companions to new audience them (withou kids needing to see old seasons). So, that isn't the reason why they donw't show old Pokemon or companions.
The more likely reason is that they just want to focus on the new characters for this new season, since the audience will follow their story.
I feel like you’re underestimating children, my friend. Curiosity about a TV show is a thing, and internet makes it absolutely accessible. If anything, the fact that there was stuff before the current show should make a child that’s getting hooked up even more curious.
