Melbourne Earthquake

Hi everyone. Firstly, I am okay after what happened this morning here in Melbourne (no, not the protests I vented out against last night), but there was an earthquake nears Mansfield to the north of Melbourne that measured a magnitude 5.8 on the Richter Scale, which is the strongest to hit Australia on land since 1997 and the strongest in Victoria in 50 years and stronger than the earthquake in Newcastle in 1989 which measured magnitude 5.6. Fortunately there has been no deaths or injuries at the moment.

For me, I was asleep but was woken up when the earthquake struck (I am in Delahey in the north-western suburbs of Melbourne so I felt it here), but there was reports it was felt as far away as Adelaide, Tasmania, Canberra and Newcastle. No damages here at the moment, but what is it like where you are?

Stand up and take a vow.

There has been some jokes being made about it like Scott Morrison again being overseas while a natural disaster struck Australia (come on, at least he didn't go to Hawaii and the trip was pre-planned well in advance). But seriously, there will be months of aftershocks and The New Daily is reporting that it is possible that what happened this morning could be a prelude to something massive, so there is a possibility that there is could be worse for Victoria. If you are in Victoria, please follow the State Emergency Service and if we get struck again, do what they do in Japan and go under your desks if another one happens.

First coronavirus and now months of aftershocks after an earthquake ahead for us here in Victoria. We can't get a break here.

Here are some of the media coverage, first from The New Daily and then the South China Morning Post.

And some information from the State Emergency Service on what to do if there is a repeat of this morning:
