MoonLilyShipping (Lillie x Moon (or Selene or Luna or whatever))

I wanna say this shipping is canon. Have no picture (sry I can't draw) but the scene when it rains at Exeggutor Island... :p

Right??? That was so romantic and cute!

A fic I found on Ao3:

A Reunion (end of game spoilers)

Isn't the scene the same when playing as a male? I've not done a male playthrough yet but it looked the same on the Playthroughs I saw on YT~
I meant to post it on SolarBlossomShipping, but they are both the same. So I guess both ships are canon...

The pairing between Lillie and the S/M Female Protagonist appears to be now officially called MoonLilyShipping (link to source), so apologies for the inconvenience but I just updated the title in order to reflect this change.

I love this ship so much ;___; One of my absolute favorites. Lillie is such a darling and she and the protag are so damn sweet together it's unreal (obviously this can go for the male protag too but I played as Selene so eh). They go through so much together and are so important to each other by the end. They are gfs and I will always treasure them

They were one of my faves back when Sun & Moon first released, I still love them together now. Just the fact that Lillie changed her own life and became so much happier, all because meeting Selene gave her the confidence to find her own strength... ahhh it's so good.

cracks this bad boy open. wipes 10 layers of dust off of it. you will all be subjected to my yuri posting in 2025
backreading the few posts in this thread was really validating because to this day, i still call the original sun/moon Selene "Moon". it's how i differentiate the character from SM and the character from USUM and also... it's just what i remembered calling moon back when i first played SM in high school and was actively engaging in shipping this online. like, i could have sworn we didn't know what the protagonists' true names were and we were calling them just Sun and Moon for a while!! but when i bring this up with people they have no idea what i'm talking about!! seeing this thread open with "Whatever the protagonist's name is*" gave me such a wave of vindication :yay:

anyway, i'm here for a couple reasons: one, to declare my love for this ship because i haven't expressed my love for any pokemon ship other than likodot on this forum yet, and that's a crime. lillie is particularly important as a character for me, for various reasons her story with her family and becoming an independent person and everything really touched me in high school, and part of that for me was of course a shipping interpretation, which i was incredibly invested in back then. even though i haven't been actively engaged in the moonlilyshipping fandom in years, i still love talking about it when it comes up. i replayed moon for the first time in ages just a year ago and i was unsurprised just how much it still emotionally affected me as a 25 year old. SM's story is just so good and moonlilyshipping is the cherry on top... a lot of cherries, actually.

second... does anyone else remember 8tracks? it's defunct now, but i used it avidly as a young person and to this day i sorely miss being able to discover new, niche music by looking up hyperspecific fandom and community tags (no, youtube playlists and whatnot are not the same and do not have the same culture anymore). i was thinking about this because all the way back in late 2016 after i beat SM for the first time right after their release, i made an 8tracks playlist for this ship. i was really proud of that playlist. it achieved "gem" status which more or less means it was really well liked in comparison to the traffic it had. i'm pretty sure for years afterwards if you looked up the ship, it was towards the top still? i don't know for sure, and now 8tracks is super dead. but before it shut down, there was an archiving effort, so a large amount of 8tracks playlists are available on the wayback machine... including my moonlilyshipping playlist!! i was able to rescue the tracklist and description and everything! it was actually quite a pain to find because i changed my 8tracks username at some point, and the version that was on the wayback machine used the newer username, which for the life of me i could not find for a good while. but i finally figured it out!!

the playlist was called "to the girl with a universe in her heart" which is the sappiest thing ever lol. i will copy/paste the tracklist below exactly as it was presented in the original playlist, though i've added links to the songs if you'd like to listen to them:

  1. hum by clara c music
  2. you are the moon by the hush sound
  3. smile by mikky ekko (cover by daisy w.)
  4. turning page by sleeping at last
  5. you are enough by sleeping at last
  6. alive (studio session) by gabrielle aplin
  7. chasing cars by snow patrol (cover by the wind and the wave)
  8. in the absence of everything i promise to keep you warm by flatsound
it's crazy how many of these songs i liked when i was 16 i had completely forgotten about until today. i swear chasing cars was one of my favorite songs of all time back then, and i don't think i've listened to it in at least 5 years until today. like, what?? how?? :slowpoke: how fitting all of these songs are for the ship may be debatable as i had a really elaborate AU that i think got kind of OOC but i still think a lot of this playlist is pretty fitting! i'm also amused by my dedication to trying to find covers of these songs with female vocalists, even though there's a few i couldn't find good covers for.

i think we should return to the art of fandom playlists with really hyperspecific music. maybe i'll make another someday... could maybe be a fun thread idea
