COMPLETE: Rival's Story

I now just noticed that I'm on the bad end of an archive binge. Now I have to wait more than the time it takes to scroll down to read the next chapter. This is sad.
 
I hope Charizard is the last Pokemon standing, and pulls through for Blue.

I hope so too. I also wish that Alakazam will be able to fight lance and use ice punch against his dragon types :D. and also, after Blue defeats the elite 4, he will have his team healed before battling red right? your story is wonderful, Gastly's mama.
 
I hope that Red only wins by spamming Full Restores. Or, better yet, he doesn't win at all. (in which case, Blue will simply go back in time as Red curses and restarts the game until Red gets crithax)

It's amazing. I never thought that I could hate a character who apparently never speaks, but you've turned Red from the quiet kid with the cute mouse into a complete jerk who I keep praying loses each time he comes up.

You picked the worst possible time too! Usually I update once every four days but I'm going away for two weeks tomorrow and will have no internet. Sad times for you =P Anyway, thanks for reading.

Ahaha, that's great. I'm glad to get people hating Red. Although personally I'm a fan of Special - where he is all kinds of awesome.


Anyway, I'm a little disappointed with this chapter myself, but there's only so much I can do given the variety in Blue's team and the fact that he has to battle all of the Elite Four in a row (and therefore has to beat each one by a fair amount). Well, whatever, here's the new chapter - this is gonna be the last one for at least two weeks, so make the most of it!

Chapter 82

Blue decided that there was no way it could possibly be worth sticking with Pidgeot against an Onix – it simply didn’t stand a chance and he definitely didn’t want to lose another Pokémon while he still had two members of the Elite Four left to battle. It was obvious that Bruno would order a Rock typed attack so the choice of what Pokémon to use next was obvious – Rhyhorn. In one swift movement, Blue withdrew Pidgeot to its Poké Ball and sent out Rhyhorn in its place; at the same time, a torrent of rocks fell onto Rhyhorn. Fortunately, since Rhyhorn was particularly resistant to Rock type attacks, it didn’t do very much damage at all.

Bruno nodded in recognition of Blue’s intelligent switch out and ordered another attack. Blue didn’t hear what attack, but it became obvious what attack it was as Bruno’s Onix dug into the ground below it. Blue smirked, recognising the Dig attack and gave the order that he knew would take out Bruno’s Onix.

“Earthquake,” said Blue in a superior tone.

Bruno frowned. Blue knew that Earthquake did double damage to a Pokémon that happened to be underground at the time and, on top of that, Onix was a Rock type, so it was weak to the Earthquake attack anyway. Neither trainer had to check to know that Bruno’s Onix had been knocked out by this move. Bruno nodded once again and withdrew Onix to its Poké Ball, straight out of its hole in the ground and selected his next Pokémon – Hitmonlee.

Blue had been hoping that Bruno would send out another Rock type – he was sure Rhyhorn would evolve soon, but he guessed that that would’ve been a bit too convenient – Bruno was a Fighting specialist after all. Blue withdrew Rhyhorn and put his hand to his belt to select his next Pokémon. His remaining Pokémon, apart from Rhyhorn, were Charizard, Alakazam and Pidgeot. Charizard was on virtually full health, having only battled Lorelei’s Jynx so far. Alakazam had taken a super effective Shadow Ball from Lorelei’s Slowbro, but was still on reasonably high health and possessed the Recover technique. Pidgeot, on the other hand, was on reasonably low health compared to the others, having taken a Thunder Punch from Bruno’s Hitmonchan. All three of them possessed type advantages against Hitmonlee, but Pidgeot was on a little low health and Blue didn’t want to wear out his strongest Pokémon, Charizard, so early on in his league challenge so he elected to use Alakazam.

Blue threw out the Poké Ball and the Psi Pokémon burst out, calmly staring out its opponent.

“Mega Kick,” commanded Bruno.

“Psychic!” yelled Blue, confident in Alakazam’s ability to take out Bruno’s Pokémon.

Unfortunately, Blue’s confidence was somewhat misplaced as Hitmonlee darted forwards and smacked Alakazam with an unbelievably hard kick, knocking it backwards. Alakazam was so overcome by the attack, in fact, that it didn’t manage to execute a Psychic before Hitmonlee hit again. Alakazam took a good few hits before it finally managed to regain its composure. In the mean time, Blue was getting extremely frustrated – it would be bad enough to lose a Pokémon to Bruno, to lose whilst possessing a type advantage would just be humiliating.

“Psychic!” shrieked Blue, totally losing his cool.

Finally, Alakazam managed to hit back at Hitmonlee with an intense Psychic attack, knocking it back towards Bruno, who swiftly withdrew it.

“It appears,” remarked Bruno, “That you have me in something of a corner with that Pokémon of yours, Blue.”

Blue didn’t know what to say to this, he was shocked by Bruno’s admission of inferiority, but mostly he was just shocked by Bruno’s honesty – no matter how tight the situation, Blue would never admit defeat like that. Blue wasn’t sure whether he admired or disapproved of Bruno for that attitude. Bruno picked the final Poké Ball from his belt and threw it out into the arena – Machamp.

The muscular, four armed Pokémon looked far more impressive than Maxwell’s late Machop – evolution really did make a big difference, it seemed. Blue felt a little ashamed of himself for thinking ill of the dead, but didn’t think it for long – he needed to get his head in the game. This should be an easy victory; it would take Alakazam a maximum of two Psychic attacks to take out Machamp, all Blue had to do was make sure he didn’t mess up by letting Bruno get away with too much. He was already confident that he could beat Bruno – he just had to make sure he beat him by enough to stand a chance against his grandmother and Lance.

“Bulk Up!” commanded Bruno.

“Psychic!” ordered Blue.

Blue knew the Bulk Up technique – it increased the Attack and Defence stats of a Pokémon. Fortunately, it did not increase the Special Defence stat, so it didn’t increase Machamp’s chances of withstanding Alakazam’s Psychic. It still worried Blue though – he thought Bruno would take his chances with an all out attack rather than using a defensive move.

Alakazam hit Machamp as it tensed its muscles and massively increased its size and dealt it a considerable amount of damage. Unfortunately, the Psychic attack was not enough to knock it out and, although injured, Machamp still stood.

Now Blue didn’t know what to do. If he used Psychic and it hit before Machamp could hit Alakazam – he would defeat Bruno. On the other hand, though, if Machamp hit first, it might be able to knock Alakazam out and then although Blue would probably manage to defeat Bruno, there would be no way he’d be able to beat the whole Elite Four. Alternatively, Blue could have Alakazam use Recover, which it would easily be able to use before being hit by Machamp – but it’d have to give up a turn of attacking to do that. Blue thought over and over which of the two moves he should use, but couldn’t decide. Psychic or Recover? Offence or defence?

“Cross Chop!” yelled Bruno, finally standing up.

“Recover!” instructed Blue, desperately hoping that he made the right choice.

As Machamp burst forwards at an incredible speed and hit Alakazam with a Cross Chop, he suspected that he had. He guessed that if he had taken his chances with a Psychic, he’d have had a repeat performance of what had happened with Hitmonlee, but this time Alakazam would’ve been knocked out.

“Psychic!” yelled Blue immediately afterwards.

At this close range, there was no way Machamp would’ve been able to strike first. There was also no way Machamp would’ve been able to withstand the Psychic attack. Clearly, Bruno realised this as he did not even bother giving Machamp an order and instead simply raised the appropriate Poké Ball and withdrew it as it was knocked out.

“Congratulations, Blue,” remarked Bruno sincerely, while taking a seat on the floor again, “You may move on to the next room.”

Blue was amazed.

“Don’t you have anything else to say?” asked Blue.

“I lost, Blue,” explained Bruno, “I am in no position to be giving advice. All I can do now is wish you the best of luck and allow you to proceed.”

Blue nodded in response, he supposed Bruno was right.

“I’m not going to lose,” insisted Blue while clutching the Poké Balls of his four remaining Pokémon and walked through to the next room, where he would face his grandmother.

That was a very brilliant chapter. Blue certainly has evolved in his nature :) I am looking forward to the Agatha battle, and possibly seeing Rhyhorn evolve

Another great chapter.

I like Blue's strategies and mistakes. It really shows how tough the Elite Four are!

I love it. I read the whole thing in a day. It is absolutely fantastic. I think you have inspired me to write fanfics. It is a great, original idea, and I will keep reading it. Keep up the good work, and happy holidays.
 
I LOVE THIS STORY!!! I've written a few fanfics before, (not on this site), but this is shocking. I'm really bummed out that we have to wait, but it's a great work.
And one more thing... at the beginning of the story, I HATED RED!!! HE'S SUCH A LOSER!!! Then after the whole happy Eevee thing he's a bit cooler. ANyway, you rock!
 
Absolutely thrilled to see that Rival's Story was still on the front page when I returned! Anyway, as you can see from me posting here, I'm back!

Which means I'm going to start writing Rival's Story ASAP. Once I post the first chapter, I'll go back to my once every four days schedule.
