What will happen to him at the end of SM? Will they leave him at Okido's lab with the rest of Satoshi's pokemon? Or leave him in Alola?

It's hard to say so early on. But Ash doesn't own him and I doubt Ash will catch him, so I don't think he'll be left at Oak's lab. He was staying at Kukui's lab before he met Ash so my guess is that he'll just stay with Kukui to become his assistant or something.

There's still a possibility the Gen 8 games will also have Rotomdex in which case he may travel with Ash to the Gen 8 region but I don't think that will happen.

I feel like Rotomdex will become part of the main cast, much like Sonansu. Even if they have different pokedex in other games, we see that Rotom is able to build new entries for Pokemon he's never seen before.

Of course, he and Satoshi may end up having to separate like he does with all his other companions and have a tearful ending.

It really depends if the next generation has anything similar to the RotomDex. It would make sense for RotomDex to stay with Professor Kukui instead of following Ash and I do prefer the older Pokedex as opposed to a living one, so I would hope that they aren't going to keep RotomDex around.

He'll stick around if the next games have the same pokedex feature. If not, I definitely don't imagine him staying. My guess in that case is he'll stay back in Alola with Professor Kukui.

I like Rotomdex, but I won't be upset if he isn't carried over to the next series. I always enjoy seeing the different pokedex models for each gen used in the anime.

What I am most curious about which may actually relate to this question is will Z-Moves be incorporated in the next gen. If so and they do give Ash the upgrade of using a second Z-Move with Rotomdex then ideally he'd stay with Ash no?

There's a good chance that the Rotomdex will stay in Alola since Ash will be getting a new pokedex in the generation 8 region. For now, it's too early to tell what's going to happen to it.

Too soon to say, but it depends entirely on if Rotomdex is used in Gen 8.

Though personally, after the way he's hogged the spotlight over the classmates (he got a focus episode before Mallow, for Arceus' sake!), I wouldn't be sad to see him go.

I thought that Rotom Dex in the games was fine. Its dialogue didn't really bother me and it was pretty easy to ignore it if it did bother me. Rotom Dex in the show on the otherhand is more annoying. Its tendency to jump in to explain something that other characters could do, mostly early on in the series, was really annoying and its dub voice, while fitting, can make him more annoying to deal with. It's still probably not as bad as I've seen with other similar kind of characters, but I do think that Rotom Dex is worse in the show than it is in the games.

It really depends on what Gen 8 has in regards to the Pokedex. If it continues with the RotomDex thing, then Rotom is definitely following Ash. If it doesn't, then Rotom will be staying in Alola for whatever reason. As to why or how? We'll have to wait and see. I do personally hope they continue with the RotomDex, as I wanted them to expand on Rotom's concept and they've finally done that, so it'd be disappointing to me if they dropped it.

I was actually thinking of this earlier! I can see the Pokedex getting broken somehow.
