Apparently Vulpix moved up to the mountain to avoid other pokemon- both Alolan Vulpix and Ninetales have a rather anti-social theme. Sandshrew supposedly ran up the mountain to evade a volcanic eruption. I suppose, with Alola being surrounded by water, there is a more limited number of secluded places to go that would be friendly to a former Fire and Ground-type. Though Sandshrew must've been hella desperate, considering its normal form has a 2x weakness to Ice.

Not only did he share this leak, when presented with the unedited image, he requested that his followers overlay them before he believed it was the original.
So if his sources aren't reliable enough to identify a fake that people without insider info could with just image searching....how great can they be?
I can understand not having details about new Pokemon, but surely new merchandise for a new Pokemon would come up on the radar? There'd have to be a reveal at some point for this Pokemon, wouldn't there?
I don't think he has merchandise sources, though? He's probably about as informed as anyone following Paul Ryan (or less so, if he doesn't even do that much).
I guess they do label the mystery plushies as "new pokemon" at least, which is why Paul's backed well off the potential new eeveelution for that one mystery eevee- it says "new movie role" instead.
Sorry, I wasn't being very clear-my point was that if a Pokemon was going to have merchandise sold for it, it'd have to be revealed first. So shouldn't the source that gives him Direct dates have an inkling that there's no planned date to announce a new Gen 8 Pokemon, even if they didn't know what that Pokemon was?
XD Oh... I don't know about this one. Whatever source alerts him to upcoming Directs might not know what's in them, for one thing, and might only know about a Direct shortly before it happens, so it's not unreasonable to think that there might be merchandise of a new pokemon well before his sources ever learn about it, if they're just that far down the chain.
That's what I want if this is the case a future version of the region with new characters, plot, some new forms.
Oh, and also worth noting that Nintendo could have received a prototype or early production of a product well before it's been mass-produced and ready to release, so the idea that someone could snap a photo of it long before announcement isn't farfetched- but that photo, though. So obviously photoshopped, I am very disappointed that any overlay was needed.
