Official Pokémon Sword and Shield speculation thread (Updated June 5th, 2019)

Apparently they have already planned a Detective Pikachu sequel.
I don't see how they could even do a sequel considering how the movie ended.

What's interesting is the fact that they're considering a Pokemon Cinematic Universe if Detective Pikachu does well enough.
=/ I really hope that it doesn't develop into one, at least from that production company. I really don't want to see any more of those bug-eyed models.

It's unlikely to be a standard sequel. It's a sequel in the sense that SwSh are sequels to all the previous main series games, and until this generation the anime movies were set in the same continuity.

All I find on this forum is strife and divisions, a typical case as expected in fandoms.
“They come, they fight, they destroy, they corrupt. It always ends the same.”

How does everyone feel about the many dog cat and bird pokemon we have? I don't see a problem with having another frog pokemon. There are all kinds of frogs out there like there are birds.
I never hear anyone complain about those but anytime (in the fandom) someone proposes a new pokemon that we may have only one or even 3 of already all of a sudden it is pointless or silly. Or, we already have such and such and they are kinda like that or they are such and such species. I mean granted, dogs cats and birds are common categories for pets, but still... they do have differences between each other because of their types or abilities or attacks they use are different and beyond the very bare structure, the designs are still different. I just don't understand I guess. Maybe a frog pokemon that is on all fours may be something a frog fan would really like. Croagunk politoad and greninja are two legged. It could also be a different size pattern and color.

The thing is, even though we have a number of different dog breeds in here, I don't know if the 3 or so butterfly pokemon are different species or not. The earlier thing would make that moot, though, since that is same species, but with different morphology. Not to mention we have a number of things that can be said to be a rabbit, but they're just designed differently. They can't even be equated to the breeds of rabbit.

I think we have more than enough cat Pokemon, but I wouldn't mind more dog Pokemon. I'm not biased. Nope, not at all.

But seriously, the cat Pokemon appeal to me much less than dog Pokemon and I don't even think it has to do with my preference for dogs IRL, as I can love Pokemon that are based off of animal breeds I didn't really feel strongly about before (like foxes, for example).

If it isn't a major difference, then I'd rather see it be done through a regional variant. For instance, beta Politoed (which is quadruped) would be a nice variant in that lake area.
unless i am mistaken, there are only Tentacool /Tentacruel Qwilfish Skrelp Mareanie /Toxapex that are poison and water. perhaps they though added a new one would be nice (i assume that is what the poison dart frog pokemon would be). Politoad would be cool, but they may want the water/poison more accessible because of the trading. Or maybe they are wanting to help fill the boggy area of the Galar map with things. Have a new Pokemon line instead of a single end of the line trade regional varient may be the better choice for a new region with a large boggy area. I really hope they are creative with it and give many duel water types and duel ground types that are varied or even unique or we dont have much of to begin with if they are going to use water types and ground types so it doesn't seem so repetitive. It looked like a very large area of the map.

I was always thirsty for a tiger Pokemon, preferably Electric type, since tigers are my favourite animals. (I know, Raikou is a thing, and I love it, but it's a sabretooth and I wanted a real tiger) but then gen 7 happened and gave furry-bait Incineroar and Zeraora... the latter I am sorta okay with, if it wasn't an event Pokemon I actually missed. Rip, me.

Otherwise I like crows for their intelligence (but there's the Murkrow line already, so no sense in giving crows a second line when there's other cool birds still) but...yeah.

In general for new Pokemon I'd prefer wildlife-inspired ones over popular pet species Pokemon (partially saying that because I don't even like dogs [wolves are cool, though] so I wouldn't mind that spot being given to something like a boar or a redstart (which just so happens to be my favourite bird, lol).

Although I'm not opposed to the object-based ones (unless it's Rotom-Dex) so another possessed item could be cool, too. Or another Porygon-ish thing, a technology-based human-made Pokemon. But who knows.

I’m not really sure why the developer matters at all?
Because the developer needs to be in a condition to develop the games you want them to?

Because the Dog/Cat Pokemon are usually not based on the same species, whereas we already have a poison dart frog.

So are you trying to say that not a single other developer was available for the past four years other than Ambrella? .-. I find that hard to believe.
Also, I’m pretty sure they don’t have to go to the same developer every time for that respective spinoff. Even Ambrella didnt have to be commissioned for a Rumble game as opposed to something else.

Releasing games in highly close proximity to one another is not done very often as far as I know. So, yes, Rumble being released right now gets in the way of another spinoff game that I (and I’m sure many others) would prefer to see much more regardless of developer.
I don't like Rumble any more than you do, but it's silly to complain that it's getting another entry after 4 years while PMD isn't. Blame Spike Chunsoft for having other priorities and let poor Ambrella do their thing. It's just a minor mobile game.

Why is it silly? It’s just my opinion and preference. Doesn’t have to be PMD either, they have a slew of spinoffs to choose from.

I’m not blaming any company other than TPCi for making the choice to commission another Rumble game over something else. I’m bored with the Rumble concept. 4 years didn’t change that.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love another poison dart frog- I love Croagunk, but one that actually has spots and neon colors would be fantastic.
I just think another poison dart frog that attacks with its hands specifically is a little too similar- Croagunk's iconic move is jabbing, and its re-emphasized when it evolves into Toxicroak and the orange finger is accentuated even more and made into a spur type thing.

I mean, its definitely possible that they could give us another poison dart frog that's themed around clapping instead of jabbing, it just feels a little too close to me.
Greninja line uses the bubbles some frogs create as a basis for projectile based attacks, the Polis use the spiral intestinal tract of tadpoles for a hypnosis theme, and the Palpitoad line is themed around vibration and audio, based on the noises that frogs make- there's more ideas out there for unique attack styles and attributes if they wanted to make another dart frog.
