Masters Pokémon Masters General Discussion Thread

Yeah, if FEH is any hint we'll get a batch of notable characters from each generation and then they'll continue building on that across the years. So even if Clemont is not in the game initially, he'll probably be in there somewhere down the road, especially since he was made into a popular character in the anime.

If the anime's any indication they'd probably go with Tyrunt, it was the star of the show while poor Amaura got replaced by an Onix.

I'm personally curious as to how they're going to distribute the other two Unova starters, given that both BW PCs are confirmed to appear. Currently, I think it can go one of two ways:

  1. Both BW player characters get the remaining starters.
  2. Only one player character gets a starter and the second one goes to either Bianca or Hugh, leaving the other PC with a Pokemon from the Battle Subway. I prefer this theory since it adheres to the starter distribution from the original games.
 
Bianca should appear as her B2W2 self with no starter. Hugh might as well use Liepard because he certainly cared about his sister's Purrloin more than his own Pokemon. I'd be surprised if Nate didn't show up for the reunion, though.

The bigger question is if N and one of the protagonists will have the dragons. Otherwise, Zoroark for N and a random Pokemon for one of the protagonists?
 
That reminds me... we haven't seen N be confirmed for the game yet. :') Although, he's pretty popular, so it's likely he'll be included. at some point.

I don't think any of the trainers will use legendary Pokemon.

Definitely Zoroark for N. Grimsley is confirmed to have Liepard so, assuming they aren’t going to repeat Pokemon, Hugh having the remaining starter is the most plausible.
 
The thing is that the Battle Subway roster is very broad and nothing stands out. At least Hugh's Unfezant is comparable to Blue's Pidgeot.

The best idea I have for Nate is shiny Haxorus since the Nature Preserve quest concludes the B2W2 journey.

True. But they also had over 400 possible Pokemon to give to Thorton, which is way larger than the Subway roster of 36, even when only considering final evolutions in the former case.

Well, the only other choice in that case is randomly generating his Pokemon out of some roster, which would require more work. The Unova protagonists aren't exactly remembered for the Battle Subway.
 
I would give Tepig to Nate and Samurott to Hugh, then do something else for Hilbert and Hilda. Since Cheren is his BW2 design and has Stoutland, Bianca should have something else, probably her Musharna or whatever.
 
Hilda should get Tepig, it is usually portrayed with her in most other forms of media as her starter. I wouldn't be surprised if Hugh had Samurott taking into account the BW2 trailer. Considering Gen 5's unique story, Reshiram/Zekrom would actually be canon partners for the Gen 5 PCs, but that is just too OP lol

Pretty sad that I'm looking more forwards to this game than S & S. While Sync moves seem to just be a mobile version of Z-moves, they look alright and I would have preferred them as the Gen 8 battle gimmick instead of Dynamax. It's as if trainers have learned to harness the power of Z-rings while no longer relying on Necrozma's light shards.
 
If they ever cover anime characters, I want to see Samurai (Butterfree), AJ (Sandslash), Giselle (Marowak), Duplica (Ditto) and Molly (an overpowered Teddiursa). Also the Kimono Girls with their anime designs.
 
In regards to the issue of trainers having identical partners, I believe Pokemon Conquest actually solved this issue prior with the Link percentages. Certain warriors within the game had specific Pokemon from which they could form a perfect bond or link with, drawing out its maximum potential. Regardless if another warrior could also link with said partner.

I could seen this happening with Flint & Infernape. Perhaps Flint has a "perfect link" or sync in this game's case with Magmortar, while Infernape has a more perfect sync with the D/P/P PCs. I could at least see this being a future update to allow for trainers to share the same partners and differentiate them from one another.

They could do that, but it would be a waste as they have a lot of Pokemon to choose from. Unless they fear making new animations like Game Freak.

Nah, at least I hope not. Probably they could shift the roster around if it comes down to it. For example, I would have thought Bisharp to be a better rep for Grims than Liepard, so maybe updates would simply see trainers with different partners & artwork.

It would liven things up and allow other maybe lesser known or anime exclusive trainers a chance as well.

As for anime characters, I'd like to see Jessie and James (It would be surprising to not see them at release, as they appeared on the last game), Mandi, Harrison, Sawyer, Alain, Tobias (quite a lot of fans would like to kick their butts), Stephan, Paul, Zoey and Harley.

I doubt anime characters will make the cut. It's most likely for 2020-2021, the game will have an update to add in Galar characters such as Sonia, Hop, Champion Leon and few others.

Also, I am very concerned about Pokemon Masters being released around the same year as Sword and Shield. From that one trailer alone, that's enough to show you how much more this game on the phone has compared with what we got for Sword and Shield's trailer. This might overshadow and cripple it's sales somewhat, as if it hadn't been already.
 
Speaking of anime, I just rewatched the trailer and it sounds like at least some of the English VAs are reprising their roles from Generations. I compared Blue's voice from both videos and found little to no distinction between them. Cynthia, on the other hand, sounds like she's being played by someone other than Tara.

In the anime series, Emily Jeness does the voice for Cynthia.
