Pun me not! Guess the above pokemon.

Correct! Despite being called Seaking there can in fact be females.

Also, did Ash ever risk his life to save Froakie?
Or was that Garchomp? I can't remember, I know he threw himself off Prism Tower to save something.

"My name used to make sense, but not really anymore. My habitat is different, but from my name you couldn't tell."

Alolan Sandshrew and Sandslash?

For Max, Pikachu was the one who fell off in XY, and he dived straight off Prism Tower to do so. He's also literally died protecting Pikachu in the movie. There's another situation where he dived to save his Pokémon, and I'm fairly sure it was Talonflame.

A legend, they are not, but they are all named after their real-world language... except for itself.
  • The question refers to "they" and "itself". Identifying who "they" are is the first step; once you know, you'll be closer to "it".
  • "They" refers to a quartet.
  • "They" are all individual species, but I'm looking for one particular member.
  • The quartet in question is not an evolutionary line, if that helps to narrow it down.
  • Final clue: A search for this Pokémon on Bulbapedia tells you everything you need to know in the name origin section.

Scyther?

Gelatinous currency

A hint for this one (the second part of it, at least) - a very small denomination of money.
