Personality: JP is usually very kind, especially to Pokemon. He has a strong empathic sense when it comes to Pokemon, and is vey sensitive to those who are hurt or have been abandoned. His empathy for Pokemon also leads to a particular hatred for those who would mistreat them or use them for evil. He also tends to be very shy around girls.
Appearance: JP stands at 6 feet, with a slim yet wiry build. He has curly dark hair and a boyish face which, along with his name and good-guy attitude, have prompted his friends to jokingly refer to him as the “Long-Lost Jonas Brother.” He typically wears a long-sleeved blue shirt, khaki cargo pants, and black sneakers.
History: JP’s relationship with Pokemon started at the Lavender Volunteer House, where he helped Mr. Fuji take care of abandoned Pokemon. It was here that his life took a sudden turn during a visit to Pokemon Tower. While paying his respects to the fallen Pokemon entombed there, he was suddenly attacked by the Ghost Pokemon, who were still angry over Team Rocket’s recent attack. During the encounter, he tried to reach the small area that had been purified by white magic. Just as he got there, a Night Shade attack scored a direct hit. The effect of this was that JP was infused with white magic, giving him powers to defend others and heal injured Pokemon. His powers, though, are still limited, and overusing them can drain his energy.
Shortly after the Pokemon Tower was replaced with the Radio Tower, JP left home to explore the Kanto region and take part in the Indigo League. Taking with him the Pokemon he had cared for, he was able to place in the top 16. His journey also took him through Johto, during which he saw the aftereffects of Team Rocket’s activities. He vowed that if another evil team surfaced, he’d squash them single-handedly if necessary.
