Writers' Workshop General Chat Thread

I'd just have to rely on general BA skills otherwise, which, while not inconsequential, don't exactly open up a path to a specialised career.

Few do, and in the grand scheme of things few jobs require it too.

One of the best things you can do to make yourself employable is get good work experience, paid or otherwise, while you're at uni. Do as much as possible that involve the professions you're interested in during holidays etc.

Still, good luck in your diplomatic endeavours.

So I happened to stumble upon an article in the danish MetroExpress newspaper that might interest you guys, though more the danish writers I suppose. Apparently, a danish internet book store is now allowing a special service for writers to publish their works as e-books without worrying about publishers, free of charge. Either they can charge some money or sell it for free. Sounds like a good way for new writers to start out.

I've heard about something like that before.

Do you have any information for the place? A link perhaps? Might be something worth looking at.

Here's the link, it's called Saxo Publish:
Link

Do be warned, though. Everything is in danish as far as I know, so most people may not have a choice but to use Google translate to read it in English. But I'll see if there doesn't happen to be a button somewhere where you can toggle English on or off.

EDIT: Sorry, but there doesn't seem to be an English toggle button in Saxo Publish :(

No problem, thanks for the link, Dragoneye!

You know I might start a thread in the Writer's Block called Writing Opportunities or something like that, where we can share opportunities with each other. I tried to do something like that with my British and Irish Writers group, but it didn't get much attention. What would people think of that?

Also, the Awards haven't gotten as much attention this time round. What's up with that? Be sure to nominate the fics you enjoy reading! Don't let anyone go unappreciated just because you couldn't be bothered to submit their name! The deadline is in just over a week - don't let it catch you out!

I've been trying to decide who I want to nominate for supporting character XP

Are you decided on all your other nominations, or is that the only one you're planning on nominating for? If the latter, surely you can nominate for other things!

And are you trying to decide because you're stuck between a few or because you can't think of any at all?

I'm stuck between a few :p

Should have my nominations up later tonight though

Mistah Gama, he dead.

"He" referring to the Workshop, though, rather than yourself.

What I mean to say is the Workshop is rather slow right now. I attribute this to the fact that school is starting again.

I...haven't been reading enough other fics to know anyone I could nominate. *shame*

But...I did get a really awesome email tonight. An online magazine called Cosplay Shinkou is apparently starting up, and they were looking for proofreaders. And as I think at least a few people here can attest to, if there's one thing I'm good at, it's critiquing the shit out of other people's grammatical errors.

"Hey Kelsey,

Sorry for the delayed response, pretty hectic week getting oiut two issues. We would love to have you as part of our staff as a proof reader if you are still interested.

Thank You
Darryl Brooks

CEO/FOUNDER"

It's unpaid, but...I...I think I have a job now.

just figured I'd ask for the heck of it... who here has brainstormed so many various fanfic ideas to the point they're too busy with them to focus on the real world?

I tend to have this problem when I'm listening to music, which I will pin as a reason why I haven't gotten around to very much here... in fact, I'm finding that as a result, I'm either absentminded or just seemingly flat out braindead.

it's either that or going on a wiki walk...

I think lots of people have this problem! I know I certainly do.

This is the kind of thing that I think you could just start a separate thread about in the Writer's Block - I'm sure you'd get lots of responses, and probably suggestions on how to combat it!
@Feliciano; Well done! That sounds great! Is that something you'd be interested in going into professionally? That kind of thing is a good way to get into it.

Newish to this whole forum writing stuff. Seems so daunting though.

I see many well written products which for a new person like me, it is kind of daunting. Although life is all about taking a punt, so hello :)

Welcome to the family! I'm sure you'll really enjoy it here! If you have something you've written/are planning to write, I look forward to seeing it!

If you've read anything you particularly liked here, be sure to nominate it for the Awards! The Nominations thread can be found in the top of the Writer's Workshop!

I really hope you enjoy your stay here!

I'm more geared towards the Role Playing section although the problems with that is the lack of direction.

So my first go wouldn't be at all great but worth a punt I suppose. An idea I'm pushing for is trying do a journey fic but instead of the character going through the journey in the present, it is in her past. Try to mix it up.

Oh this isn't going to go well :p

Well, you will never improve if you don't give it a go! The story idea sounds interesting, you should post it!
