Black & White Speculation Contest - Week 2: The Professor

Hmm, I'm going to guess Shima-muro (or Shimamuro), a type of Japanese Juniper. Professor Shimamuro sounds like he/she would be short and possibly have a quick temper.

I'm not sure why I chose this specifically, I just think it sounds like a good possible name, and the description I gave just feels like the right type of personification for this plant/professor.

Look at the bold bits. This is the very first post, for this thread, made by Archaic stating what we have to guess, the origin of the (Japanese) name of the professor or whatever npc you get the first pokemon from. Too many people aren't putting the origin for the name they think, it doesn't even ask for a name, just the origin also too many people are saying Prof. Willow. I'm not saying that it's wrong but if you just say Prof. Willow you will lose unless all the other people who guessed Willow before you change or what you put down as the origin of the name is more accurate.

I must stop ranting.

For Japan, I would say Professor Sugi, but for English, I would guess Professor Cedar. Sugi is, in English, called the Japanese Cedar, thus the names.

Yeah, you're right, sorry.

Mine was actually a guess though. Especially after Kotone and her Mario clothes, I wouldn't put it beyond them to put in a reference. Layton is wildly popular over there, and William Hershel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Herschel), his namesake, was a famous scientist who focused on astronomy. Since I guess this new game will have some space travel, it would make sense. The picture and quote are jokes, but my real guess is for his name to be "Professor Hershel". I probably should have made it a bit clearer or cited sources, but I'm honestly trying to compete. All the more popular plants/trees are taken, so I'm taking the creative route. Worst case scenario I'm waaaay off, but if I actually get it right somehow, it'll be quite hilarious. I figure it's all up in the air at this point anyway, may as well keep it creative like I hope the game will be

It also may be Gary Oak, but my final answer is Oak. I think it'll be the return of our original Prof.
I think the game will begin and Prof. Oak will fly out to your village or close to it and give kids the opportunity to be pokemon trainer and you happen to be that kid.

I am going to have to say that my guess would be Proffesor Cypress, I reveiwed each type of tree, and this name stuck out to me. Plus I enjoy the idea that the proffesor will turn out to be a villan just as Coasting Wingull said, and Cypress overly qualifies as a villanous name in my opinion.
And if not Cypress then I do think that it very well may be Maple and i give the credits to Tiki Man for that.

I thought about that, but didn't want to create another topic about the professor because it would sound like a double-thread. Sorry.

My actual guess:

I think it will be a female professor, named irohamomiji (ろは紅葉), or smething similar, (probably just Iroha if shortened) the name for the Japanese Maple. I guess because the Japanese Maple is (obviously) common to Japan and the surrounding areas of China/Korea, and is considered very beautiful, especially with red foliage. That's why I think it will be a female professor, and is very likely to have red hair the color of Japanese Maple leaves.
