Strange/annoying things in the manga

You guys know that Electric Tale got altered even in Japan, right? Ono's original art was too much for the bound volumes, which is what we got as single issues and was altered more for our bound volumes.

The names in PokeSpe and Pocket Monsters.

Is it some sort of trend in Pokepan to name your kid random colors and gems? I can understand three kids but all of them? Is it supposed to be a coincidence, and signifies they were destined to all meet and they are the chosen ones?
Only real colour-based names I've heard are Aoi (Blue), Gin (Gold) and Rin (Silver). The latter usually being reserved for twins.

In Adventures however, I think it's just to advertise the games.

In Japanese, an "-um" suffix (as in "platinum"), while not made with "-amu", is made with "-aa" (a long "a"). Platina's name has a short "a", which always just makes an "a" sound. If they meant to name her Plainum, it would be Purachinaa rather than Purachina. Therefore, her name is Platina rather than Platinum.

The official site has it at Platinum

therefore making all "it's Platina!" arguments invalid

The official site also romanizes "Daiyamondo" as "Daiamond".

Clearly says "Diamond" here: http://family.shogakukan.co.jp/kids/netkun/pokemon/official/story/comic/character/character.html
So the main character page is most likely a typo.

It's fairly obvious that the English-language release of the DP arc will call Lady Berlitz "Platinum". While "Platina" sounds like a more acceptable name...Red, Blue, Green, Yellow, Gold, Silver, Crystal, Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald...Pokémon is the land of weird names. Also, the series is called "Pokémon Adventures: Platinum" , and the English-language third version to DP is called "Platinum". She'll be called Platinum to fit the theme of main characters been named after games.

Viz's release doesn't count as official. Besides, they called the DP arc Platinum, so they lose all credibility.

So basically, the people who have the rights to the North American release aren't official.

I'd understand a scanlation not being official, but a company with the rights to it. :|

They changed many other details, so they don't count. Chuang Yi, however, is pretty faithful to the original. And besides, has Viz given her name as Platinum, or is that just speculation based on the series name?

Wow, then what's official to you?! You also disregarded the Japanese source they all offered to prove the point of Platinum's name being such!

They also said that Diamond is Daiamond.

The DP arc was obviously called Platinum to avoid confusion with the "Pokémon Diamond and Pearl Adventure" series. Also, Lady Berlitz is still a prominent character in that arc.

Also, how is the Official Licensor and Distributor of the Manga in English-Speaking territories not Official?

Chuang Yi has made loads of more mistakes, such as Pokémon's names. Also, the 'speculation' is based on:
1) The official Japanese website listing her name as "Platinum"
2) The series being called "Pokémon Adventures: Platinum"
3) Diamond and Pearl's third version being called "Pokémon Platinum" and all other Pokédex holders having names matching those of the main series.

They also said that Diamond is Daiamond.
Thanks for selective reading.

Clearly says: Diamond. Which highly suggests that Diamond's separate character page saying "Daiamond" was a typo. Heck, it's just an extra "a" , easy mistake.

Their mistakes were insignifigant in comparison to Viz's changes.

Not if Viz can actually hold the rights as well, no. Also, Chuang Yi doesn't distribute outside of English-speaking Asia, now does it?

Viz and Chuang Yi could both be considered "official", but Chuang Yi takes precedence because it makes fewer changes to the original.

Asides from the nonsense of actually having two official versions (really, USA, what's so wrong of accepting a single version for the same language? Is it because they're non-white foreigners?), I dunno why such system of precedence is justified; that's at best a personal opinion... which I bet many here don't share, if they're defending Viz as official and equally valid as Chuang Yi.

...I actually don't care either way. I just go along with the tradition the series's translation has so far of naming our characters after the game versions, which means Platinum Berlitz is named that way. Chuang Yi has no reason to change it, but good luck with Viz; USAns are well known for butchering Japanese stuff, and surely they'll pay attention to the masses of people who complain of Platinum being an ungirly and ungraceful name. You could write to them.

That statement wasn't subjective at all.

Chuang Yi is Official in English-Speaking Asia. Viz Media is Official in English Speaking Non-Asia.

Diamond.jpg

I'm going with Daiamond being a typo.

Platinum sounds like a boy name.
Since when was Yellow a feminine name?

And what proof do you have of that?
*points to above* It's only 1 letter off being the English word Diamond.

Also, to bring it back to the original discussion of Lady Berlitz:
Platinum.jpg

She'll be named Platinum to fit with the name of the game and the name of the series (Which isn't called the Platina arc btw). Live with it.
