Re: Confirmed New Pokémon Discussion

Such a huge thread, has anyone commented on how number 648 looks kind of a Mariah Carey thing? -cough- I really liked that little green dinosaur with the tusks (I'm too lazy to find out its name), but I was saddened when I saw it evolved into that dragon with the scythes in its mouth. I don't like that one.

Re: Confirmed New Pokémon Discussion

Can anybody show me a labeled map of Isshu with everything on it and also where can one catch a Washibon?
Hehe.

I'm guessing you're referring to Meloia, the one with the green music notes for hair? It (she?) is a legendary that has another forme known as step forme, where she becomes a dancer instead of a singer.

The green dinosaur (dragon) is called Kibago. Iris has one in the games and the anime. In my opinion, though, I like all of Kibago's evolutions and Ononokusu is a beast. So I'll (hopefully) have him/her on my team in B/W when I get it.

Yepples, that's the legendary. x3 I was kind of disappointed, though, on how much more humanoid the Pokemon looked. Some were just outright funny-looking. ;_;

And yeah, that's my dinosaur. x3 The final evolution kind of looks like a standing centipede. I never understood how it wasn't part Bug.

Re: Confirmed New Pokémon Discussion

Yo, I'd just like to say that Gen. V has the best Pokemon of all time! The best Pokemon of all time! Now that I've had my Kanye moment. . . :D

I love all the dragons in this Generation, what about you guys? And that giant flaming moth! I can't wait to get my hands on these games!

Re: Confirmed New Pokémon Discussion

I think Generation V kind of strays from how Pokemon used to look. They used to be like mythical creatures, but now it's like they're incorporating modern culture into it. >_< But yeah, I like that flaming moth, too. x3 Now that's epic, and something that hasn't been affected by modern culture.

Re: Confirmed New Pokémon Discussion

I'd say that Pokemon is getting more of a connection to the real world myths/urban legends than ever, but with more obscure designs. Nothing in Generation I stood out to me as mythical, but they certainly did have a real world connection; Seel? Tauros?

The new Generation V Pokes have Musketeers, Yin-Yang, Area 51 Aliens, Mothra, etc.

Re: Confirmed New Pokémon Discussion

I'm starting to think that Kojondo is the spiritual successor of Lucario. We know that Lucario's aura abilities have a lot of parallels with The Force (even with their little catch phrase) and basically utilizing life energy. Well here's their dex entry:

  • Kojofuu 619: It uses pretty, continuous attacks. If its body and soul are unified, the techniques’ speed and sharpness increases.
  • Kojondo 620: It fights by slamming the enemy with the long hair on its arms. It shakes its arms like whips.

Kojofuu's dex entry right there has the basic concept right there. They also have the awesome ability, Regenerate, which is akin to force healing and is even one of the few non-legendaries to learn Aura-Sphere(though I haven't checked the whole movelist to see who else gets it)

Re: Confirmed New Pokémon Discussion

Well, real-world connection is visible for sure. But I'm guessing 'fantasy' is the term I was going for. Not like unicorns or flying dragons kind of mythical, but rather the "in my wildest dreams" kind.

Generation V seems to incorporate the 'now' aspect of things into the designs, if you get where I'm going with that.

Re: Confirmed New Pokémon Discussion

The more I look at Kojofu, the more I really, really like it. I feel like you could put it next to machop and abra and not bat a lash at design style differences.

This makes me happy, area 51 is a clever reference for a pokemon game as well.

Re: Confirmed New Pokémon Discussion

Ugh, Kojondo doesn't have that great of a special movepool -_-

Special stat should have been distributed to HP considering its Regenerate ability.

Magnemite, Voltorb, Porygon, Grimer and Koffing say hi.

Anything can be made into a Pokémon. Anything.

And here I am thinking that they were more spiritual sucessors to Hitmonchan and 'Lee. Especially since it's obvious what they're names are referring to - Tae Kwon Do and Kung Fu. Two different martial arts just like how the two original Hitmons referenced boxing and kickboxing.

Nageki and Dageki would fit this role better. One specializes in throws and the other specializes in blows.

There should be a list on who's an expy of who.

Pretty sure the guys in the martial arts outfit are the spiritual successors, Dageki and Nageki, considering that like Hitmonchan and Hitmonlee, they are related yet different species of Pokemon, unlike Kojondo which is just a single family.

Nageki and Dageki also have different fighting styles with Nageki's dex entry alluding to grappling techniques and Dageki alluding to punches. Kojondo itself just fuses two styles in its name. Then there's also the fact that like the Hitmon guys, Nageki and Dageki are an all-male fighting species.

Then there's also the stats

Nageki:
120/100/85/30/85/45

Dageki:
75/125/75/30/75/85

Now while both are offensively biased like the Hitmons, one of them also chooses to be more defensively oriented while the other is more offensive like Hitmonchan (defense) and Hitmonlee (attack). Sucks for the offensive one that its speed compared to past generation's speed tiers are still low.

The defensive one also gets Guts, which, honestly is way better than Sturdy and makes up for its slightly weaker attack.

Doreida > Erufuun

Baggy Pants Plant > Overgrown Puffy Plant

White > Black

^^My opinion.

..Really though, Erufuun has a decent moveset with Grass and Flying moves, but I don't like it's stats as much as Doreida's. Design-wise, I like them both.
