Pokemon Bank

I'm still not sure why GF thought releasing PokeBank on Christmas was a good idea. They tried to release a highly anticipated app that every Pokemon fan has been waiting for on the same day that hundreds of thousands of people get their brand new 3DSes and/or Nintendo gift cards. Did it not occur to anyone at Nintendo/Game Freak for even a second that that colossal amount of traffic might break the servers?

The hopeful side of me says it'll come soon. The cynical side of me says Nintendo will eventually make up an excuse and say they are cancelling the western releases of bank and transporter entirely and making it Japan only.

I hope the latter is not true

well last time people couldn't transfer their pokemon they were pissed as hell ( ruby and sapphire this made them remake gen 1 back then it wasn't a big deal no one could ev train or iv train well, or atleast not a large amount of the fan base, now adays we have event pokemon ev trained pokemon that we've spend hours getting if we can't transfer them it will be a big F*cking deal and i wouldn't be surprised if game freak lost half its fans with that move. so i doubt it'll never come out.

I personally don't see what the big deal is about the delay. Yes, it is inconvinient, but it isn't like it's never going to be released (as of now, anyways). I can only assume there is stuff we don't know about that they need to take care of.

Well, the "pissed as hell" people didn't buy the game and weren't going to buy it due to them outgrowing Pokemon or because it was no longer the new, hip fad.

But that's a stupid discussion to be having because Bank is delayed, not destroyed. This isn't the first time in the history of the world a video game was delayed. It is nothing to freak out about and make yet other conspiracy theory claiming that Bank may not get released outside in Japan, because there's absolutely no evidence that that could even possibly be true.

Seriously? Can't people just wait? It's not the end of the world, just wait for it like everybody else, i rather wait for like a month for Pokemon Bank and it comes with no issues than coming tomorrow with tons of issues.

That to ( altough some people did stick with it) but my point was back then it wasn't to big a deal now it would be because we have dozens of event pokemon ev trained pokemon shiny pokemon and nostalgia pokemon from as far back as 2003. so not releasing bank at all would have a similar effect

This is really trying my patience. I mean all I want now are my best breeding Dittos and the event legends. That's all. Because it's taken so long I now have almost no need for the bank itself!

Think about what you said for a minute. Due to the delay, you have almost no need for the bank. The bank was having problems based on the massive volume. As each day goes on, we GTS and wonder trade a whole lot of pokemon, even if only to kill time.

While I'm not happy about the bank's release... If I'm right, they actually came up with a pretty clever solution to reduce the volume.

Except it also kills any reason people would pay for continued service. Especially one that is now this unreliable.

I'm a bit concerned about the safety of Pokemon stored in Bank... Especially during things like crashes and such. Makes me kinda not want to use it much...

Then you're free to not use it. But data recovery is one of the easiest and most basic things and just because a computer crashes does not mean the data is lost. The several references to it being cloud storage means that it is also backed up several times over and considering the small size of a Pokemon as a file, that's incredibly easy to do. Also worth noting that, as of this time , Bank's servers have not crashed. Nintendo's E-Shop and NNID servers, however, did.

So the paranoid are free to not use it, but that's really a choice based on ignorance. It is an extremely safe service. Note that during the initial launch of the JP DW in Gen 5, it went down to do a hurricane/earthquake and not a single Pokemon that was "Tucked in" was reported to be compromised, despite it being shut down for several days.

While data recovery is not as simple as Randomspot says it is, your data will be good and safe. Cloud servers use mirrored drives and other failsafe methods to prevent data loss. Chances are your mons are going to be stored on 3 to 5 mirrored drives and if there is a failure of one or even more than one drive the data will still reside on the ones remaining. If the admins are anticipating a controller failure (which could corrupt data) they can either physically or logically change your drive and/or move your data to more stable set. This is all done behind the scenes and you would never know if there is an issue. This is what us IT professionals get paid the $$$ to do.

I kinda wish they allowed berries to be transferred over. I've got so many valuable berries in my Black2 game, and they're all going to waste...

If there's a new patched Bank/Mover coming out, hopefully they allow berries to be transferred over.

As much as I don't need any of my breeding Pokemon from old games anymore, I still want Bank for storage to keep all the random Pokemon I don't use for breeding there. Hopefully they'll release it by next week, they don't really have an excuse anymore. They'll definitely have to extend the period to download and get a free month of usage.

Nintendo don't want for transfer being available Why? Because the Gen V events are full of hacks and the Gen VI is free from hacks (a few select hackers is not having a lot of hackers). Nintendo want to make a Gen III with Gen VI and because the only way to connect DS and 3DS is an external application, this is the way to go. The solution: a gigantic Pokedex and the rest in Safari.

But they were various problems, and is that various pokemon, specially lemgendaries are likely to not be available in the games. And mainly one reason that you might be unaware:
The movie events (which unusually wasn't been released internationally). The movie has event pokemon. People go to the movie to watch the movie and to get the events in many cases. The event includes a Mewtwo that has known to have a new forme (later Mega Mewtwo Y) if you preorder the ticket. If the children know that this Mewtwo can't be on X/Y they won't go to the movie and the events will go to waste.

I really do not think this is true. They've said they will update on the Bank situation when they can. The whole Bank system was designed so people could transfer and store Pokemon I dont think hacks really have much to do with the delay here. Its probably more they are trying to figure out a way to prevent problems with server overload when they do release it. There is going to be a rush to download and use the service when they do release Bank.

Perhaps they could stealth-patch it, or give localised downloads for set times until the traffic died down. Granted the Japan-only traffic broke the servers, but if they could limit it to a very refined point, it might make things easier.

I know hacks keep you awake at night, but that isn't the case here. Bank will be released and its delay has nothing to do with its legality check.

Server crash was due to NNID and Eshoo, not Bank

I know that but I get the feeling Nintendo's group are using Bank as a scapegoat for the crash. You know how stubborn they are about their 'innovations'. After all, both NNID and Eshop are up and fully functional but there's been almost no word on the Bank.

Okay, I looked on IGN's page on PokeBank and it's says the release date is March 31st. I'm really skeptical about this especially after the January 7th debacle.

I really don't think they'd want to wait like two months to release it, so I'm guessing that's a placeholder date. Or at least I hope it is...

I almost wonder if one of the problem they ran into was Hack checking and the resulting waits from people needing to go back and do whatever to the hacked mons was a problem. Bascialy Send up a tray of 30 have one of them be hacked, bounce back the tray for the person to take the hacked mon out but leave the channel open untill logout for them to send back the tray without the hacked mon. Bascialy that would probably cause part of the trafic load.
