Do you use the GTS?

I also want an option where you can search for people who want something you have.

E.g. I have 'X' thing
GTS search for people who want 'X'
I see that people who want 'X' are trading 'K' and 'Q' for it.
Then I can choose who I want to trade with and for what.

Yeah, I used it to complete my Gen VI dex since it was easy to deposit a Dragalge and then ask for X exclusives. But now since I have caught 'em all I no longer need to use even though I like to use to see some shiny Pokémon people put there!

I tried it and I hate it.

Firstly, people lie. I wanted a Turtwig just for the Dex and saw one asking for a Palkia in return. They said it had 5IVs and an egg move and since my Palkia wasn't gonna get used anyway, I traded it. Turns out it was just a normal Turtwig. Now I'm not inclined to believe any of them.
On those, you have to be extremely careful. Sometimes they are telling the truth, other times they are lying through their teeth.

I made a trade for a Chimchar--gave up an Yveltal--that supposedly had its Hidden Ability. Guess what? It didn't. I was torqued but let it go. Two weeks later, I spot two Chimchar, one male and the other female, both asking for Legends and both swearing that they had Iron Fist. I swallowed hard and traded.

Both had egg moves and Iron Fist. The risk had paid off for me. Now, it doesn't always work in those cases; there's a player in Mexico named Kary offering up her breeding scraps saying that they have 5IVs and Hidden Abilities. I've gotten three Golett off her and they have the IVs but only one has No Guard. So yeah, I don't trade with her anymore, no matter how tempted I may be.

And sometimes you can get great stuff through a normal trade. My 5IV level 100 Japanese No Guard Golurk was offered up for a blasted Ditto. Best trade I ever made.
Then, they won't let me trade "special" Pokemon. When I was searching for a shiny Slurpuff, I found one asking for a Keldeo, but I couldn't trade because it's "special". But it's MY Pokemon. I should be able to trade it if I want to. What's the point of being able to ask for it if I can't trade it?!
This is a screw-up on GF's part that needs to be fixed.

Sure it's great to be able to type out what you want but you can also ask for events, which can't be traded at all. Honestly, GF should let us trade them or filter them out of the GTS completely. I am sick of seeing impossible requests on the GTS: there are a couple of shiny Golurk that are being offered for a Mew and a Deoxys while there's a pair of Golett being offered for a Darkrai and an Arceus. Gen V I could make those trades. Now I can't. Last Gen it was level 9 and under. Now it's asking for a Mew or a Darkrai. This could be dealt with and cleaned up but probably won't be.
I'm trying to stay away from GTS if it isn't for a Vivillon these days, and even then, I haven't sought any in a while. I'm too fed up with the GTS.
I try but I'm too blasted hooked. If I can nab a level 30 Golurk with No Guard or trade for a shiny Golett, I'm going to do it, frustrations be slagged.
I use it sometimes, but honestly it's a huge pain. Why? Because of legends. GF needs to ban them completely on the GTS. Even if I want something fairly banal, the people trading want Darkrais, Shaymins, Jirachis, and others which are either impossible to get without an event or you need to have transferred it from Gen III or something.
Even if you can get a Shaymin, you can't trade it on the Gen VI GTS as it's "special" and can't be traded. We didn't have those restrictions in Unova, now we have them in Kalos. It's madding.

[tangent]I have access to a Golurk Safari ... [/tangent]

But seriously, the G6 GTS addresses some of the problem we've had with the G4/5 GTS's, but at the same time it does introduce new ones. Asking for event legends being the #1 problem, those are literally impossible trades with the special rule in place so they really do need to be blocked at deposit time. We don't need thousands of orphaned Pokemon sitting on the GTS (be it a Golurk, a Shinx, a Riolu, or whatever).

Options -> Don't Include. For me it keeps away requests for event mons and some legendaries.
This works, yes, but seeing that you can't trade events anyway, you shouldn't be required to tick that option every damn time you go on GTS.

I've been myself scouring through GTS in search of foreign Pokémon and have been mildly successful as evident from still getting a dozen or so new ones daily. The infinite greed of people takes its toll, though, as there are quite few reasonable trades available at any time. If one is looking for a specific species only, it's very efficient to always make the offer yourself as it will stand out from the rest as a fair one and get completed fairly quickly.

Other than a solution to the unfair trades, I'd like if there was a reservation system in place. It hurts so much to see something like an Italian rarity I come across to get traded during those two minutes you spend hatching a new egg yourself. Hurrying to fulfill trades also makes it too much of a hassle to read the comments or comply to them most of the time, too.

Haha, back at Gen 4 and 5 I never used the GTS. Why? Because I have 3 DSLs, so I always trade with myself! As well as a personal Japanese Ditto. Mwahaha >D

But at Gen 6, I just have to use it. Otherwise I won't be able to complete my Pokedex. Since it's already completed, right now I'm just posting Jungle Vivillons requesting legends. Hey, I want some, and I was just fooling around at the beginning. I never expected anyone to respond, after all. But after 4 succesful trades for Zekrom, Raikou, Entei and Ho-Oh in a row, I just continued. xD

Yeah, rare Vivillon sell really well. I got all GTS tradable Bank legends prior to its release around here by sending in my Icy Snow ones. I hated to be a cheapskate like that, but it was probably the only sustainable method that worked.

Especially if I could snag some of them a Gen earlier. There are several shiny Golurk that are being offered for a Deoxys, a Mew, a Darkrai, etc. In Unova, those were doable trades. Now they aren't anymore and it is frustrating. Granted, some of these might be legit offers* but others are simply showing off. It probably wouldn't take much for Nintendo/GF to patch this but I seriously doubt it will ever happen.

Now, I shouldn't complain; I've got a pretty decent track record when it comes to the GTS but it isn't fair for everyone else. It needs to be fixed but it seems to be on the low end of Nintendo/GF's priorities.

*I'm willing to bet that there are people out there typing in Mew and offering a shiny hoping that they'll get a trade, since you can now request Pokemon that you haven't seen at all. However, it also means you can ask for event Legends which can't be traded and I don't think some people realize that.

Still, the fact that you can request event legends at all when you can't actually deposit them is a genuine bug and NEEDS to be fixed.

That really bothers me because those useless, tradeless pokemons are clogging up all the space and I find something reasonable, like, way in the back after going through a wave of people asking for Darkrais.

If those pokemons can't be traded anyways, why let them requestable?

For me I'm kind of mixed on it. I mean sure there will always be scammers who lie out their teeth about 5 and 6 IV's but I found that sometimes the Pokemon that don't have a IV message listed for them and a reasonable offer tend to have the 5-6 IVs that you're often looking for (Ex. I traded for a Bouffalant with no IV message listed, and got a 6 IV one with Sap Sipper, and a reasonable offer Shiny Elgyem with 6 IVs in all of its stats).

I've used the GTS several times, mostly to get Pokemon I can't/am too lazy to get myself. I did shell out a Moltres for a snow-pattern Vivillon (though after what that asshole put me through to capture him, I was glad to let him go).

I use it mostly to deposit pokemon sometimes I get a pokemon I wanted without giving up a rare pokemon, also sometimes have to give up 1 I wanted to keep for something I need.

It does. It really, really does. But I serioulsy doubt that either GF or Nintendo will do anything to correct this.

We could last Gen.

Last night, a guy in France popped a shiny Gringolem on the Gen V GTS and asked for an Arceus. I had a spare and traded. Not five minutes later, I spotted a level 100 shiny Goloog with the asking price of a Deoxys. I had a spare on one of my other carts, so I sent it over and traded. No harm, no foul.

And that's what drives me utterly crazy about the whole slagging thing: it was possible a Gen ago but blocked now. That isn't fair.

I get it: GF and Nintendo want to keep these Pokemon rare and "special". Fine great and wonderful but filter them from GTS completely. If a player types in "Darkrai" then an error message should pop up, saying that this Pokemon cannot be requested. It should be an easy fix but it probably will never happen, as the GTS seems to be on the low end of Nintendo/GF's priorities. (And hey, if this had been in place, we may not have been so quickly spoiled over Diancie, Hoopa and Volcanion. Those were pretty much blown within a few weeks of release, thanks to the GTS and its requesting system.)

However, if you have any Gen III Legends, they make good trade fodder. Pitching out a spare Rayquaza has netted me quite a few trades in the last few weeks, so there's that.

I like the GTS but its so bogged down with people asking ridiculous things for a pokemon thats note even that special oh a shaymin for your lillipup... makes sense.

I just used it recently, and I have to say I am impressed with the improvements that have been made to it. It still has the problem of people wanting ridiculous trades for common Pokemon, but it is heaps better than what was offered in previous gens.

With that said, I still don't use it much. Even though the problem with unrealistic trades is still there, that is probably the biggest issue I have with it. It's really awful. My brother, who owns Y and is my closest access to Pokemon I cannot get in my own game, does not have everything that I am looking for, and so I went to the GTS for the first time to help fulfill my desire to fill up my Pokedex. Everybody was asking for legendaries or hard to level up Pokemon for something as common as Minun, and that really pisses me off. It also sucks that event Pokemon cannot be traded. "This is a special Pokemon and cannot be traded, blah blah" Well, now I am stuck with these event Pokemon with crappy IVs and natures. They couldn't even be made useful as trade fodder. Thanks, Game Freak.

GTS helped me complete a large part of the Pokedex before Pokebank. The only disadvantage is those spammers who want a Legendary for a Pokemon that is common.

I'm happy with the improvements in 6th gen too, we can ask for non registered 'mons unlike former games.
I thought completing the dex would be a lot easier.. But, spammers attacked with legendaries asks, why can't they ask for fair trades?

I used to use it a lot when I was completing the dex, now I barely check it since I don't need. Last time I used it to get vivillon patterns weeks ago.
