Pokemon you wish were competitively better?

Which Pokemon do you wish were viable in standard competitive battling but just aren't due to either being outclassed, having too many weaknesses, having shallow movepools, etc?

First that comes to my mind is Electrode. It's always been one of my favorite Pokemon. For some reason I just adore its design. I just wish the Pokemon known for Exploding all the time had higher attack.

Its base attack is only 50 making its Explosion one of the weakest in the game. :/ Its special attack isn't too good either, and its defenses are also pretty bad. I think it deserves an evolution. :/

Definitely Flareon. It has god-like offensive stats but is too slow and physically frail to make use of them. There should be a Fire-type variation of Quick Attack. That would partially alleviate the problem.

Most Ice-types as well. They need more resistances.

Abomasnow. I love its design, it's fun to use, and Grass/Ice sounds like a cool type combo. It's just that it has way too many weaknesses.

A lot of Dark-, Ice-, and Poison-type Pokemon come to mind. I would love to have Houndoom and Lapras in my competitive teams as they have some of the coolest desings, but I wish they weren't so frail to some of the most common moves in the meta game. =( Damn Rock- and Fighting-type moves being everywhere... Lapras isn't frail in terms of defenses, but those moves are her kryptonite. Houndoom better have a Focus Sash or he ain't sticking around long enough to make a hit.

Braviary, because I want to wreck competitive teams with a 'Murica bird, and Cinccino. I love the little guy and I use it all the time, but it's still outclassed by a lot of other options.

Basically any bug type that isn't one of the select few like genesect or volcarona. I love designs like butterfree (heh), leavanny, and vespiquen, but the typing itself and poor stats are a huge hindrance.

Aside from that, there are too many for me to list. I tend to favor weaker Pokemon that I get attached to in my playthroughs, and when a Pokemon is OU and OP I start to hate it. I loved greninja as my starter in X, but then it became the hottest shit in all the land, and now I can't stand him :/

Oh, but for something specific and on-topic, recently I've been adoring my magcargo, but he's such a burden to use it's sad, really.

Dustox. It's one of my two favorite bugs (Scolipede is actually good though.). Also Empoleon (because the ORAS set that got Greninja banned was actually susceptible to it if you played your cards right (Drill Peck exists people)), Chatot (Please let it boost its special attack in its own without being bred so I can actually use my shiny one). If I could think of a strategy other than Double Team Toxic for Umbreon, it's stats would make it amazing as a wall. Also wish I could have Feraligatr in OU. Weavile is cool too.

I can think of a few:

Staraptor: I know its BU or whatever, but it was the first bird that can actually pack a real punch with Close Combat and Brave Bird, as well as one of my favorites. While, yes, Swellow can outdo it thanks to Guts/Flame Orb, but still, I rather like that fierce birdie. And Intimidate isn't to shabby for a standard ability if you ask me, while Reckless is a bruiser, but it's still ranked at the bottom. Talonflame has pretty much become the meta-bird, and now Pidgeot has a Mega form, too, but Staraptor is left at the very bottom perch. If the could give it a Mega (turn it into a Fighting/Flying) with juiced up Attack and Speed, then it could do some pretty heft poundings.

Braviary: Same reasons as Staraptor and what @BlackOsprey; said. Maybe give it a Mega (again, Fighting/Flying), with more offense and bulk, arm it with a powerful Fighting move (Close Combat would work really well), and BOOM, one bruiser of a noble eagle. They are called warriors of the sky (or something like that), so why not solidify that statement with a bird that packs a massive punch.

Luxray: A great Electric-type that could really use a boost. Expand its moves more, boost its Speed, and it could be a real contender. Throw in a Mega form (maybe Electric/Dark, to match its color and usage of Dark moves) and it could go to town.

Almost every Dark type needs a major boost.

I second Luxray. Loved that bro's design from the start and I pray to the PokeGods every night for a mega form. Others I can think of are Staraptor, Scolipede, Seviper and Elgyem simply cuz I love their designs and want to flaunt that shit. Yanmega has always been pretty beastly and I carry him always and regardless, but I don't know - there's just something about him that needs more unf.

Most Gen 1 Pokemon, tbh. They were good back then, with the broken mechanics, but not in today's Gens...

swalot and stunfisk

mostly swalot, stunfisk at least has some niche uses once in a while because of its unique typing, great bulk, access to stealth rock, etc. All swalot really has going for it is respectable bulk and a few cool moves like yawn and encore.

finally somebody understands me

it should get either a mega or some sort of signature explosion-based move that makes it better

Butterfree, Butterfree, Butterfree! :'( I mean, I can still kick ass with it during play throughs, but god forbid I bring one into a competitive battle.

Butterfree isn't terrible at least. It has Compoundeyes boosted Sleep Powder and Quiver Dance, but it would definitely help if it had better special attack and speed to make better use of its potential.

What it needs is a Mega that takes advantage of its full potential.

Hydreigon yeah it's UU but cmon it's a pseudo. They really should have switched it's attack and speed given how frail it is, it's only saving grace was the fact it didn't have a double weakness. What's that new type? And it's full of special walls? It has a crazy late appearance and evolves the latest of all pokemon, it's completely out classed by Latious and outsped by Garchomp and Salamence. "Nerf it now!"

Your Mega Butterfree looks nice, however there are a few changes I'd make. For one, I really don't like the idea of lowering its already abysmal attack stat to give it extra stat points to boost. I would keep attack the same and lower one of the defenses by 10. Although Compoundeyes was its niche, I don't take issue with your idea of a bug-type pixilate. In fact, I actually quite like the idea because bug type moves have very bad offensive coverage, so a 117 base power bug type Hyper Voice even boosted by QD won't really be 'overpowered'.

Using your Mega Butterfree I would run this set.

Butterfree @ Mega Stone
252 SpA / 252 Spe / 4 Hp
Modest
- Quiver Dance
- Hyper Voice
- Psychic
- HP Ground / HP Fighting / HP Fire

These Hidden Power types provide the best coverage alongside Mega Butterfree's STAB moves. I haven't looked much into which of the three would be the best, but I'm pretty sure it's entirely situation. Hidden Power Fire leaves you near defenseless against Heatran though..

Well the reason I went with lowering the Attack stat is because Butterfree isn't physical. Just like how the actual Mega Beedrill was lower in Special Attack to focus more on physical Attack. And raising both Defense and Special Defense makes it far more sturdy.

They may be too many, but personally:
Miltank
Smeargle
Slowking
Zangoose
Armaldo
Raichu.
