What "little things," details, small flourishes, etc. did you appreciate?

I can't believe I forgot to mention one of my favorites. I LOVED how they gave you the option to greet Wicke with "Alola!" when you first meet her in Aether Paradise, and that if you select it, you'll do the hand motion for it.

Also with that said, I like that they give you options to answer questions that aren't just "yes/no".

I love the mention of Palkia and Giratina at that building. It was a nice reference to Sinnoh.

I like how characters now use gender pronouns to refer to their Pokemon. The majority of people in real life do when referencing their pets, so it felt weird how in past games they'd just say "it"---I've noticed a few NPCs now will mention what gender their Pokemon is which feels more real.

Also I noticed quite often an NPC will reference your lead Pokemon when healing you or after you win a battle against like Team Skull, which makes me feel warm and connect with my Pokemon. It's neat seeing my Slowpoke congratulated after a fight.

Oddly enough despite these improvements I find Sun and Moon's dialogue to feel really off at times, like characters will say stuff that feels nonsensical or doesn't make sense for them to be saying to the player. It's not super stiff like BW was, but something feels off. The plot dialogue is usually alright, I mean like the after battle quotes and such tend to feel really weak and lacking impact. It also bothers me how you're no longer next to a Trainer following a fight and have to walk up to them to see the new dialogue, especially if you're someone who has to talk to everyone like me.

And Bronzong, oddly enough, instead of Dialga like you'd expect---would be pretty wild if it ended up being an Ultra Beast.

None of Dialga's Pokédex entries mention other worlds or [spacial] dimensions, whereas Bronzong's does. What I'm surprised about is that they didn't include Mega Gengar's entry, since it does mention alternate dimensions and is a brand-new entry, nor did they mention Porygon-Z's, whose entry says it was specifically designed to explore alien dimensions.

Can you give some examples? I'm curious~ XP

Quirky dialogue or wonky script because of rushed localization to meet worldwide release?

It's a very small nitpick I'd had with previous games, but the completionist in me loves that we now obtain the Forme-changing items for Mythical Pokémon in-game, without actually needing to own that Pokémon.

Although in thinking about it, I don't know why they don't just shove them all into an antique store like the Hoenn and Sinnoh Orbs.

To get a little more specific about the trainers using different poké balls thing, did anyone notice how the majority of Team Skull used nest balls? Nest balls are best used on low level pokémon which means that the grunts couldn't actually catch anything better than weak wild pokémon (because they're grunts, obvs) whereas stronger trainers had ultra balls as a sign that they could handle themselves better.

that's detail.
I did a double-take when I saw a trainer sending out an Ultra Ball. I forget which one, and which Pokémon it contained though. Pretty sure it was low-level, which tells me the trainer was REALLY desperate to catch it.

I'm not sure if anyone else noticed, but I think they've redone the animations for some of the moves in this game, to nifty effect for the most part.

Adding onto this, I love what they've done to Sucker Punch and Protect. The former has been changed so that it plays your opponent's attacking animation first, which then gets interrupted by your Pokémon's hit halfway through! And Protect now displays a quick flash of the blue "shield" when your attack would have hit the defending Pokémon. Neither of these were necessary additions, and yet both moves look all the better for it.

I like how different Pokémon have different eating speeds in Pokémon Refresh and eat slower when they're almost full, but Guzzlord always eats the Poké Beans in one bite.

I liked how all the cafes had three different lines of dialogue, even for drinks you already had in anothet cafe. Though, there was this one cafe owner in the 1st Pokemon Center who made an interesting marketing line for Moomoo Milk...

"Just one sip and you'll be hooked. This milk is so mellow, yet rich, that it'll make you wish your mother were a Miltank."

So in other words, he says I'd be wishing I was drinking Moomoo Milk from my mother as a Miltank. Uh, that's quite the tagline, there... ^.^;

Spoilers for those who haven't cleared the game
Giving us, the champion, a unique bgm with the symbolic pokemon theme intro :D Really awesome to hear when I'm defending my title.

Also, the Flying-type elite 4 being a golfer. Really clever, seeing how there are professional golfing vocabulary that are related to birds.

I love that the Hail effect on the battlefield now actually looks like something is happening at all. In Gen VI, the Hail on the battlefield was like, an occasional chunk or two falling from the sky. Now we have constant ice pellets and even some frost on the ground (love that bit), and it finally feels as substantial as the other weather animations.

Also, while I loved Gen VI's idea of making it look like the weather was actually affecting your bottom screen menu, I am at the same time very fond of the artsy little animated backgrounds that are now displayed on the lower screen during weather.

  • The ability to decide who goes to a box and who stays in your party if you catch a Pokemon when your party is full.
  • HMs being gone.
  • TITLE DEFENSE. You actually get to be Champion now, instead of getting to the Elite Four, finding the old Champion, and then being all "wait why are you here, aren't you supposed to be in retirement".
  • Houses actually looking like houses now, with things like bathrooms and little beds for the Pokemon.
  • Seriously, I was blown away that our mom has her own freaking bedroom now.
  • The fact that if you get the shades in Malie City and put them on, the soulless smile that your character wears even in serious cutscenes becomes hilarious.
  • The Pokedex entry sidequests, which provide both easy money and an incentive to catch more Pokemon you might not really use.
  • Little mundane things that remind us that there's a world outside of Pokemon, such as seeing a regular grocery store.

That said... I still miss these things:
  • BEING ABLE TO SIT IN CHAIRS, MY GOD.
  • Being able to watch TV that wasn't freaking malasada commercials.
  • Being able to look in trash cans.
  • BIKES.
