I know this is like old news, but about the code names... Someone mentioned the term Swan Song and how it relates to the code name for B2/W2 so I did a bit of digging and it turns out... The code names might mean more than we think... (However they don’t actually tell us much about the game)

Pokémon Black 2 And Pokemon White 2

Codename: Swan

Meaning: In ancient myths a Swan sings before someone dies. The term Swan Song is used to refer to the “last” of something of the “final piece of work”. Pokémon Black 2 And Pokemon White 2 was the “Swan Song” of the Nintendo DS. Further (and this is reaching a bit) there are Black and White Swans (Zekrom and Reshirahm). And the ducklings are Grey (Kyurem)

Pokémon X And Pokemon Y

Codename: Kujira

Meaning: Kujira means “A Whale” in Japan. Whale doesn’t just refer to the actual animal though... It can mean a number of things. The term Whale can refer to something Big, Great, or Fine of its kind. X/Y, although people didn’t like the story, was in fact something Big, Great, and Fine of it’s kind. After all it was the first 3D Pokemon game and they also added a bunch of new features. But wouldn’t this be a big risk/gamble? Isn’t jumping straight from sprites to 3D models a bit ambitious? Well the term Whale is also slang for a Gambler with the capability of earning or losing a lot of money. X/Y was sort of like a gamble. Finally Whale can refer to a heavy blow. X/Y was like a heavy blow to Pokemon fans. Like a punch to the stomach, something completely unexpected.

Pokémon Omega Ruby And Pokemon Alpha Sapphire

Codename: Sango

Meaning: Sango means “Postpartum” in Japan. Postpartum means the time after birth. If X/Y is considered the birth of the 3DS Generation of Games, then Or/As can be considered the Postpartum. Also Or/As had a lot to do with “Primal things” and the “ancient of days”, early after Arceus birthed the world... The Postpartum of Pokemon, the rise of the land and the rise of the sea...

Pokémon Sun And Pokemon Moon

Codename: Niji

Meaning: Niji means “Rainbow” in Japan. This Codename is probably has the most information in it compared to all the other codenames. First of all Hawaii (Alola) was the Rainbow state. Then there was a lot of “7” and “Rainbow” imagery in the game (7 colors in a rainbow). And Rainbows are related to light. The Sun and Moon are related to light. Finally Necrozma is literally a prism and when you put white light into a prism... It becomes a rainbow...

Pokémon Ultra Sun And Pokemon Ultra Moon

Codename: Momiji

Meaning: Momiji means “Autumn Leaves” in Japan. Autumn isn’t just the season between summer and winter (white winter... more on this later). It also means a time of “full maturity” especially the “late stages”. Isn’t Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon The “Autumn” of Sun and Moon? It was basically Sun/Moon 2.0 and the developers did say they got the “younger ones” at Gamefreak to work on the game. It all lines up. Autumn can also mean “Harvest” or the “End” of something. Since they are moving to the Nintendo Switch... Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon is the “Autumn Leaves” of the 3DS like how Black 2 And White 2 where the “Swan Song” of the DS. And what comes after Autumn? Winter...

Pokémon Switch

Codename: Beluga

Meaning: Beluga means “White” or “Great White”. Also there are a number of myths relating to the Beluga. There is one where a villager wears the skull of a Beluga which leads them into the sea before becoming a Beluga and they have a Beluga baby which is killed by hunters sparking a war. There are also ancient drawings of people communicating with Belugas... What does this tell us? Not much... Unless you figure out what it all means. It is time to put our tinfoil hats on. Following Autumn is Winter or maybe the “Great White Winter”. Maybe Pokémon Switch will take place in a colder region? Maybe Sinnoh even... Maybe the whole Villager baby Beluga war thing hints at the story somehow? Something bad happens igniting a War. Maybe Cyrus is involved. Maybe he is the Beluga and wants to avenge his son or something like that (Idk I am making things up now). What is really interesting though as some people pointed out... Is the Communication aspect of it. Someone said maybe Masada will finally get his dream game where we can talk to Pokemon. Maybe the communication aspect of Pokémon will be greatly improved on the Switch version of the game...

I doubt that Beluga means a literal winter-themed region any more than Momiji meant an autumn-themed one.

It would be interesting to have more N-like characters who could talk to Pokemon, and perhaps proved that they weren't making it up. The player talking to their own Pokemon would be a silly gimmick, though.

They would have to change catching and trading for that. I doubt they would be able to justify the way the game works if you can actually understand pokemon.

Serebii is continuing with his "not Gen 8?""what defines a new gen?" teasing in ResetEra.Does he really know something?

If he does the question is why does he keep hammering this point? Does he want credit for knowing ahead of time? I don't know the guy personally or anything but from what I can tell he would rather not be responsible for leakes and the like due what happened in the past.

Maybe he knows something but knows/thinks there's going to be some kind of fan backlash. But why does he care in that case?

Otherwise he should have ever reason just to keep his head down.

He may actually know something but that's just him playing safe like always. When the games will be revealed he will say he was right anyway cause "I've said before the games could not be gen 8" or "I've never said they would not be gen 8".

One thing is for certain: To wait one more cycle for a completely new generation would allow it to have the best possible gameplay, by testing many of the ideas within some type of hybrid old/new generation.

This would be basically to swap the timing of the remade region games with the new region!

The problem is that whatever old region looks kinda new with a new graphic but playing in a new region with an already seen graphic is not as good as it was when everything looked totally new.

They can always improve within the same hardware though, both the DS and 3DS held 2 generations, the difference between Gen IV and V was very noticeable, and the jump between Gen VI and VII was pretty interesting to say the least.

I wonder why everyone thinks the next game won't be Gen VIII, but it would be kanto reboot?

Of course they can but they would release two couples of games that are different in graphic/engine, gameplay and pokemon. How will these games communicate? I don't think GF wants to isolate the first two games on the switch from all past AND future games.

Generations have typically been defined by the debut of a completely new region and Pokemon (starter trio, version exclusives, legendaries, and events) and, for the latter half, the ability to directly interact with all other games in that generation (e.g. USM with SM, ORAS with XY).

Kanto is not a new region, and a Kanto reboot may or may not add new species outside of the all-too-iconic original 151.

I figured it out. What happens with anything else that is rebooted? The count starts over again. A reboot is not gen 8.

Wait if i remember correctly there is no beluga based pokemon yet right? Oh man it would be cool if one would be made next gen along with peacock, hammerhead shark, swordfish, platypus, narwhal and many others.

Wait what other real life common and known animals does not have any pokemon countetpart yet? Which one do you think will have a counterpart next gen?
A narwhale would be cool

CANADA!

Pokemon B/W was a softreboot. Gen8 could be it too.
I don't think that they'll do that again. They would never have a large amount of new Pokemon again. Also, when BW did it, it was harshly criticized by fans to the point where they added in a ton of old Pokemon into BW2.
