Obsolete A few basic rules

Ok, these are the rules for the time being.

Open to advice as new mods, if any, join.

-The Writers Café is for all kind of stories, pokémon or otherwise. However non-pokémon story should be marked as such (ie, if it's a Harry Potter story, just add (Harry Potter) to the thread title).

It is also for the discussion of anything and everythign related to books and writing. If you want to talk about the latest Harry Potter, or anything else writing-related, this is the place for it!

-There will be no plagiarism on this board. The rule is simple-You steal/copy another author’s work and claim it as your own, it will lead to you being banned immediately without warning. There is no excuse for not knowing it is wrong to plagiarize. If you need a further explanation of what exactly constitutes plagiarism, you can scroll down to Clare’s post in this thread.

-Fics containing graphic sex must be clearly labeled as such (NC-17 tag in the title).

-Do not flame fics or their authors. Criticize if you want, but criticizing is pointing out things that should be improved (IE "The dialogue's a bit awkward) in the fic, not saying the fic (or author) is "bad", "sucks" or is "moronic". By posting your fic, you accept that you may and probably WILL receive criticism. If you don't want criticized - don't post the fic.

-All new chapters to a fic goes in the fic's original topic. There's an update topic in which you can announce that your fic has been updated, and where you can check to see if your favorite fics have any new chapters. You can also make the first post of the topic an index post (see example below).

-Post the fic directly, not a link to a site where you have the fic stored.

-Once your fanfic has been completed (and ONLY once it is completed) you can contact the mods to have it moved to the archive forum.

Uh, how do you link to new chapters that have been added on to a specific thread?

Well, when you reply to a thread (for example, posting a new chapter), the computer take you directly to that post in the thread. Just copy the adress the computer took you to, that's the address of the specific post.

I think editing the posts might also do the trick.

Sigh. It seems the majority of my stories wont be posted here, as regards rule number three (or the one of graphic sex, whichever number it happens to be).

And from that, you should be able to guess who I happen to be. If you haven't already, or something like that. But I like the rules here, and a seperate forum for non-pokemon stories! Absolutely spiffing! Such a brilliant idea; now one can easily find a story one likes, depending on one's mood.

I was just reviewing the sticky threads here, and it occured to me that graphic violence isn't covered on here...what's the rule on that?

I'm personally for limiting as little as possible the writers. Ban outright lemons, ok, but outside that...

I can't help noticing that the rules don't mention plagiarism either and, since it's not allowed on most of the fanfic sites I've come across, it might be an idea to do the same here.

As for how we'd define plagiarism, I'd suggest we say it's any direct copying of ideas from another author in an attempt to pass them off as your own. In simple terms, this:

Until she was twelve, Emily lived a happy life, living at home with her parents and Pokemon, Nidorina, Jumpluff and Skitty. But, one day, her father found out she was a Rukonian and she was forced to go into hiding along with three other Rukonians named Bob, Sharon and Teresa. Emily's father hated Rukonians so much that he was even prepared to condemn his only child.

would not be acceptable as it is a near-carbon copy of Seadra Reef's "Wings Of Hope" - and there would also be the "small matter" of the hypothetical author getting permission to write about Rukonians. On Pojo's fanfic board, there is a rule that, if you wish to use something that you didn't invent yourself and is not canon to the series concerned, you must have permission from whoever came up with it before you incorporate it into your fics. However, the basic theme of rejection due to difference would be open to anyone to interpret as they wished.

I didn't realize that plagiarism wasn't listed on here. I guess we all just thought that was a no-brainer.
But you are absolutely right, Clare, a rule about that needs to be present(especially considering plagiarism has already taken place on this board once before).

You seemed to have outlined the situation pretty well.
I hope Blackjack or Damian don't mind me adding it in. I'll be adding it near the top, so if one of you would like to reword it, or add something, please do so. ^_^

That rule is fine by me - good job Togepretty and Clare. Can't believe I forgot to add that one in ^^;;. As Togepretty said, I guess we all considered it so much of a no-brainer that we didn'T even think about writing it down as a rule ^^;.

IF you don't want criticized, don't post your fic. By posting here, you give everyone the right to criticize your stories, as that is the purpose of posting here - to improve yourself (which is often impossible without criticism ; general tips nearly never cut it).

If you just want to put up your story so that people read it, post it in the library archive once its completed, and not before.

IM PERFCT!!!11!11" Yes, I've seen all too much of that sort of vibe at Pojo lately. x__x It's been directed at me in the form of being ignored because I've taken it upon myself to try to get the spamming idiots to write something not in script format, using proper grammar, using legitimate, unoverused plots, and generally writing more than 1/4th of a page and calling it a "chapter." The only mod is Cabbie, and Cabbie's paid attention to the forum, like, once in the entire time of my rearrival. PojoFF needs a mod; the only reason I see that it doesn't have its own mod is that there's only one voice of reason that rings clearly, and it's yours, Clare (mine's more like the crash before a fall ). However, most of the people there don't listen to you OR me.

Wow. Is it just me, or has fic-dom sort of... died? The only real activity I see is on Pojo, where a bunch of people try to write and fail miserably.... Sure, there's a legitimate blip every once in a while, but I still feel as though something has fallen from the once glorious realm of ficdom. Has everyone lost their motive?[/color]

You can bump any thread you like as long as you have something important to say in it. Not just in this forum, but on the whole board.
