D/P Girl...replacing...

The possibility of Battle Frontier being the end for Ash and co. is actually somewhat plausible now. Sure, Ash is named after Satoshi Tajiri, but could they possibly start with a clean slate altogether anyway?

There are holes in this theory, though, such as:

1) If Ash is meant to be dropped after the Pyramid, we should have seen him win the Hoenn league. Sure, he's beating legendaries now, but wouldn't winning a league be fitting?

2) If this is the end for May, why in the world did they not have her win the Grand Festival? If this is her last saga, why did they go out of their way to create Saori, who is the Richie/Harrison/Tyson-esque character of the GF, to purposely have May lose?

If this is the end for May, Saori probably never would have existed, and May would have battled Drew in the finals of the GF and won the whole thing. The whole point of the writers going out of their way to show May lose doesn't fit if they didn't plan to keep her.

3) Sooooo many loose ends. We never saw Ash confront Giovanni. Ho-oh. GS ball. Ash's old Pokemon actually doing something but rotting away at Oaks. Ash becoming a Pokemon Master, May becoming a Top coordinator, Brock actually getting a girl or becoming a breeder.

In any case, did that actually confirm that D/P girl will star on the cast? Or did they just confirm she's going to be in Shinou, but as a rival or something? Case in point, they didn't show any images from the actual anime.

zhenlin and I were also discussing this: What if Team Iguchi continued on AG and Ota does the new series. Ota hasn't done normal Pokémon episode for a while now - since AG171 (excluding AG172). Iguchi is the better team and it has been doing AG since the Deoxys special. It is possible that Ota hasn't been doing AG anymore because its working on Pocket Monsters - Pearl and Diamond.

According to Pokeani, the girl is called Hikari.

I doubt Hikari will be the only character in the show. She's probably there as the only new main character. (I also doubt that the legendaries will play as big a role as the picture would suggest.)

Then again, the writers may try to follow the games in that respect. If they could pull it off, it would be interesting to watch.

But why would they have a spin-off series of D/P and then keep the normal series.

Where would Ash go, would he just stay around Kanto?

Maybe Ash'll go to Shinou too, but he'll be a recurring character.

Funny how they always shaft the male for the female. We got May, Hinata, and now D/P girl.

Only poor FR/LG was skipped. :(

I assume that in this case, the writers either want to try having two girls or need a girl to to do the replacement to contests.

Which is? I still find it amusing that D/P come out in about two months yet we have no word on what new "goal" there is, or if there even is one to begin with.

I love how you ignore the first parts of my posts.

Chances are, they'll add her on as a rival for Ash. I'm wondering how they're going to pull this off without upsetting one of the ships, although I'm sure that is the least of their worries.

^_^ Nice name. It means 'light', doesn't it? Reckon they'll go the Digimon route and call her Kari in the dub?

I wonder if some of those Pokémon-hating Digimon fans will whine. XD

For some odd reason I see Ash, Pikachu, Hikari, DP boy, and Team Rocket. Don't ask me why, especially since I love May, Max, and Brock. x.x

Like I said, the rivals Forever episodes will likely dictate May's future.

Dude, chances are people started shipping Hikari and Satoshi from the moment her name was mentioned. And chances are other people started hating Hikari from the moment her name was mentioned because they knew she was female and thus intruding on Pokéshipping-Bouldershipping-Palletshipping-Advanceshipping-everyotherAshshipever.

I have my bets that they aren't really thinking about shipping at all, and know we're going to do this no matter what cast changes they make.

Anyway, I'd say the new-series-new-cast-entirely theory isn't likely. If they were going to make a spin-off series, it'd be either based on a minor game - like Ranger, as suggested - or actually spun-off the main plot - like May going and getting her own show, as I know we've discussed here before. And there's still the possibility that the show as we know it will end and this will replace it entirely - but come on, I'm one of the most paranoid people I know and even I think that's just our fear chiming in.

Chances are she's one of the new main characters who'll be traveling beside Ash. And this doesn't bode well for May - because let's face it, Smurfette principle anyone? If they were going to break it, knowing them, I would think they'd do it by having one high-level sidequest-chasing female main character and one low-level background-material female main character who gets about as much focus as Max. Hikari will not likely fill that second role.

But then again, most of these theories are just speculation and attempting to draw a behavior pattern from what we've seen so far. Anything could happen, really - maybe May will stay, Hikari will replace Ash, and it will be borderline-porn lesbian fanservice for all.

Ash/Hikari is pretty much guaranteed to become a ship with a big fanbase regardless of what the writers do.

The only ship the writers are really bothered about at the moment is ContestShipping. I would also add PokéShipping to that but Scott would probably start another debate which is best placed in the shipping forums. In any case, if we do get real Ash/Hikari evidence, then that time is when PokéShipping will be gone unless we get a Misty reaction.

Indeed, for all we know is Hikari can replace Brock. His name isn't even listed on the credits of most AG summaries.

It would be nice to have two girls on the group for once, although I'm not sure what role Hikari will play. And at any rate, this sure shows that the writers couldn't care less about bringing Misty back into the cast.

Why do you keep saying that when we don't even know who will be in the next saga other than Hikari?

Oh, I'm not even going to try and guess about Brock's fate. At least May we have some evidence that points to her leaving - Brock is a total mystery, and the suspense is a killer.

They seem to like him more now, so I can only hope that means they'll decide to keep him - and his Bonsly, cute as it is, hasn't done very much whatsoever - but there's really no way to tell what they're thinking for Brock. !_!

Because argumentum ad nauseam rules!

I'd watch that.

Based on the context of this thread, I'm going to name Haruka/Hikari ItCouldHappenShipping.
