Gym Discussion/Speculation

Personally I would like to see these for a Pokemon Gym line for the new generation:
Gym 1 - Flying types
Gym 2 - Grass types
Gym 3 - Fighting types
Gym 4 - Ghost types
Gym 5 - Water types
Gym 6 - Electric types
Gym 7 - Dragon types
Gym 8 - TADAA! - Dark types, for the finale of the gym battles in the game, an introduction to the first ever dark type gym!
The first six, don't necessarily have to go in that order. Lol.

Gyms in unova were sooo easy was a bit of a joke tbh i spent almost no time training so i asume my pokemon were around the average levels yet i still walked them i could of won them all with only 2 or 3 pokemon. I only struggled with the first 1st gym because i didnt know about getting a fire/water/grass monkey to help you beat there type advantage

please give them more pokemon plzz even the 8th gym has 3 pokemon WTF.. the gym leaders are meant to be tough not walk overs !!!

This is my only request sort out the gyms.

Apparently we're getting another Bug-type Gym. What I'd like to see this time is:

A Grass-type Gym
A Dark-type Gym
A Poison-type Gym
A Fire-type Gym
Not another Water-type gym!

Tougher Gym Leaders. BWBW2's Gym Leaders were just too easy to defeat.

More towns without Gyms accessible during the main story.

A way to heal your Pokemon inside the Gym. I don't feel like running back and forth between the Pokemon Center and the Gym all the time.

B2W2's Gym Leader are easy only if you tend to overlevel your team.

Gym 5 - Water types
Gym 6 - Electric types
Gym 7 - Dragon types

I think we had enough of Water, Electric and Dragon Gyms for at least ten generations.
How I think it should be:

1. Poison [Isn't weak to any of the starter types]
2. Rock, Flying or Ground [...]
3. Fire [Last time we had one was in Hoenn]
4. Fighting [No particular reason]
5. Normal [They are usually the hardest leaders]
6. Ghost [We always have a Ghost Leader after a Ghost E4]
7. Bug [A really strong Bug Leader would be great. And female.]
8. Dark [Just for people shut up about the lack of Dark Gym Leader already... and because Dark-type ftw]

I'm fine regardless of the typing each gym focuses on, all I want is a Gym where we'll get to participate in either a Triple or a Double battle. Regular 1 on 1 Gym battles is so boring by now, I'd like to try out different battle styles in some gyms. Maybe a Tag battle, where you get to team up with your rival to defeat two other Gym leaders (like Tate and Liza)?

Or maybe they could create a Gym that'd work like Tucker's Battle Dome, where maybe 8 Gym Trainers (including yourself) would participate in an elimination tournament, and in order for you to face off against the Gym leader you'd have to win the tournament. Of course the Gym trainers would focus on the gym's specific typing, but maybe each battle could be different by mixing single, double and triple battles. I'd be up for anything different than just ''walking around and battling until you face the Gym leader''.

I personally think the best way to serve the more seasoned fans in difficulty while still keeping the younger fans in mind would be an old save bonus-induced hard mode.

I wonder how you move on that spider web. It would look really fun if you could do it diagonally.

I don't know if there is any expicable reason behind skipping Dark-type when creating new gym every generation, but I wouldn't mind if this unwritten tradition would go on this time as well.
I mean, there was a perfect chance to make Cheren a Dark gym leader (you know, he got Purrloin and his name means black); GF missed it.

And by the way, don't know how about you, but I am always more excited to see new gym leaders' designs than new Pokemon~

I think they should use a Dark-type Gym. Dark-type Elite Four members are played-out. In fact, I think Dark, Ghost, Psychic, Fighting, and Dragon are all played-out as Elite Four types. I hope they make a Dark-type Gym with 2 leaders (you fight one or the other depending on the version - and one could be male while the other could be female). Just don't make them evil. Yet again, Karen, Sidney, and Grimsley aren't evil.

I hope if there is a Grass-type Gym, the leader is a guy. We need a real male Grass-type Gym Leader (i.e. one who operates on his own). And we need a female Bug-type specialist BADLY. Nintendo should really get over the stereotype that all girls scream at the sight of bugs. It's not true. Just don't give her Wormadam or Vespiquen - female trainers don't need mostly- or always-female Pokemon. Then again, Whitney was probably the only female Gym Leader who used a lot of female-only Pokemon; somewhat understandable since she is meant to be a girly girl (in contrast to Clair especially).

And a Water-type Elite Four member would be good as long as it's female. I know Misty is a fan favourite, but there's five times as many male Water Gym Leaders as female.

As for the other types, I don't care what gender the Gym Leader is.

Personally I'd like

1st - Fighting (Dunno Why)

2nd - Flying (Flying Type usually come later in the game with the exception, of Falkner)

3rd - Bug (Gender doesn't matter to me, I'm a guy who is extremely afraid of bugs and spiders)

4th - Poison (Not nearly enough Poison Gym Leaders, and needs to at least be as half as awesome as Roxie!)

5th - Ghost (A Ghost gym usually happens almost always after a Ghost Elite 4, preferably a gothic Lolita)

6th - Fire (We haven't had one since Hoen)

7th - Psychic (Same as 6th)

8th - Dark (Dark Types never have had a chance to shine as a Gym)

Elite 4 should be

Normal Types (They should be shown that their a force to reckoned with)

Water Types (Used way to much for gyms, and an all around decent type)

Electric Types (Same as Water)

Dragon (Some tradition should persist)

First Gym: Dark Type - because it isn't super effective against the Starter's type, and it isn't weak to them, either. Good to start.

Second Gym: Fire

Third Gym: Flying.

Fourth Gym: Poison

Fifth Gym: Bug.

Sixth Gym: Psychic. I can't think of anything else.

Seventh Gym: Ghost.

Eighth Gym: Ice

don't know if that place with the fire shooting up is a gym or something else. but for the sake of this thread, i'll say a fire gym

I actually thought that the large fire room may be a fire type E4 member. Something that large of scale and amazing looking is probably either a Fire E4 or maybe the Champion.

are you all blind look at the trailer again the firery room has a trainer on top before the fire burst its a gym!!!

It could be the Champion's or an Elite Four's room.

Yeah, it looks more like E4 than a gym

Or the Champion D I'd love to see a fire type champion.

So excited for the new games- have watched the trailer over and over again!!

I realise it's maybe a bit early to start discussing and speculating on the Gyms, but there does seem to be one present in the trailer:

Kinda reminds me of Caitlin's rooms from B/W/B2/W2 - maybe a Psychic type Gym?

Also, it seems like they're re-using the Unova Gym symbol this time around - maybe just a standard symbol for Gyms worldwide or is it another connection to Unova similar to the Golurk statue?

I don't think That girl is the gym Leader !
I think she's the female PC of Pokemon X & Y !

I think you're right. That looks just like the girl we saw running across the bridge, the default female pc. Plus, the guy next to her looks like he's the gym guy that always stands at the front and tells you about the leader.


As for my personal opinions and wants, I want a Dark type gym as well. I really want a Dark gym, and I'm actually hoping for it to be a later gym in the game, maybe even the last or next to last. Also, I think that a Bug gym is also confirmed basically. I also suspect a Psychic/Ghost gym and Grass gym based on the trailer. I'd also like to see a Steel type gym and a Fighting gym. I'd prefer not having an Electric gym or Water gym. And I'd also prefer not to have a Dragon or Ice gym.

I'm hopping on board the Dark type gym train. Dark types are one of my favorites! They should have had their own gym by now, don't you think? I'd like to see another poison gym as well.

Though I'm wondering... what if they decide to mix types in the gyms now? So that the pokemon and the gym's style could be a mix of two types? I dunno about how all of thatwould work but it might be interesting.

I like the idea of a mixed Psychic/Dark gym But they shouldn't do more than one if they did.

Notice how there's absolutely no Water whatsoever. Not even in the overused aftergame section. I think we're all sick of it, and it should never be used for another 3 Gens AT LEAST.

I don't expect to see a Dark type gym. I know everyone wants it, but with the current trend and all, I still don't expect to see one.

Maybe GF will prove me wrong. Though I certainly would be, jokingly that is, calling blasphemy on it.

Well, we already know there's a Bug-type (which I don't like. Every main series DS game had a Bug-type GL or E4 member). So for the remaining types, I'd like to see (although not necessarily in this order):

Fire
Dark
Psychic
Ghost
Fighting
Grass
Steel

Maybe in terms of order it might be like:
1) Fighting
2) Bug
3) Ghost
4) Psychic
5) Steel
6) Grass
7) Fire
8) Dark

Then, I'd like to see an Elite 4 based around strategy instead of type. Maybe Sun, Rain, Hail and Sandstorm with a Trick Room Champion?

I've no specific ideas for gym types, but I'd absolutely love to see gyms not having a particular order, like in most if not all games before BW. Seriously, the Nimbasa Stadium and Court trainers can have higher levels/more Pokémon depending on your badges, but gym leaders have the same levels/Pokémon throughout?

Oh yes, and gym leaders who aren't complete type-sticklers (like Sabrina, DP Candice, DP Volkner) would be welcome too. Move spam should not be a viable strategy in any gym.

Figure I may as well throw in my own Gym wishlist too

Gym 01 ~ Bug Gym//Female Leader ~ I think Bug's a pretty good choice for a first Gym, especially if they use the local regional bug plus one extra, serving as nice gentle introduction to the concept of Gyms for new players. Having a female leader will give older fans something new to see here too.

Gym 02 ~ Grass Gym//Male Leader ~ Grass is pretty under-rated Gym-wise imo. Don't get me wrong, I love Erika and Gardenia, but they're both pretty underwhelming imo. Also, Grass as a type serves as a nice follow-up to the Bug Gym too and can be made diverse enough to give players more of a challenge. I'd prefer a male Leader for a change. I know that Cilan is a male Grass Gym Leader, but I don't really count him as too much of a specialist in the type.

Gym 03 ~ Ground Gym//Female Leader ~ Having Bug and Grass as the first two, Ground makes a good change of pace for people relying too much on their Fires and Flyers for the first too Gyms. I'd really like to see a female Leader here, maybe someone like an Egyptian styled beauty queen, almost counterpart to Elesa.

Gym 04 ~ Steel Gym//Female Leader ~ I'd like to see Steel used again, but with a really strong, muscular female Gym Leader.

Gym 05 ~ Ghost Gym//Male Leader ~ I think the Ghost type, like Grass, is pretty under-rated actually. In all honesty, Morty and Fantina didn't really come across as actual specialists in the type more beyond their names. Morty is apparently known as the "mystic seer of the future" and, to me, that suits more a Psychic specialist and, with regards to Fantina, I think they really could've given her any type and it would've been fine - there was no reason iirc for her Ghost type specialism. Plus, in Gen I we had a Ghost E4 member, Gen II a Ghost Gym, Gen III a Ghost E4 member, Gen IV a Ghost Gym and then in Gen V a Ghost E4 member - going with a Ghost gym again in this Gen would see that pattern continue and I like details like that.

Gym 06 ~ Poison Gym//Male Leader ~ I'd really like to see a new Male Poison specialist now that Koga is not a Gym Leader. I'd also like to see them take the Poison trainer away from what's previously been done with Poison specialists - ninjas, a rocker and the majority of the villainous team grunts. What I want is something gentler for this trainer and his Gym.

Gym 07 ~ Dark Gym//Female Leader ~ So we've had three E4 members using Dark types, one female and two males. I'd like to see a female Dark specialist for all the reasons everyone has already listed.

Gym 08 ~ Normal Gym//Male Leader ~ I want Normal to be the last Gym because, as someone stated earlier, I really think it deserves more recognition. Normal Pokémon, imo, feel super under-rated and under-used. There is so much potential, but really most of the Pokémon this type (single-typed ones I mean) are largely pretty useless battle-wise. I'm electing a Male leader simply to balance out the genders of the Gym Leaders


As for the E4 (cos I might as well throw this in here too), I'd like to see:

E4 01 ~ Flying type//Male ~ someone with a high-end cool factor, maybe some rich go-getter who just can't get enough of a thrill.

E4 02 ~ Electric type//Female ~ someone who breaks the stereotype, opposite of Elesa, like a mechanic or electrician... kinda like an Electric type Maylene.

E4 03 ~ Rock type//Female ~ I'd love to see Rock type get Elite status given the kind-of status it currently has with its specialists - all were the first Gym Leaders of their regions and I wanna see that change.

E4 04 ~ Ice type//Male ~ I want to see Ice get E4 again for similar reasons to Ghost getting a Gym. Every Gen has had an Ice type specialist, three have been Gym Leaders and two have been members of the Elite Four. I'd like that evened out and kept for tradition/pattern's sake.


As an additional note, someone previously had suggested seeing double battle Gym Leaders again (like Tate and Liza). My only request is that, if they do do this gain, make them of two differing types as opposed to both using the same. More specifically, make them opposing types like Poison and Ground or Water and Fire - something really tough and challenging. I'd also like to maybe see this concept stretched into the E4 or the Champion - it'd be awesome to have two Champions who battled together using opposing types!!
