Gym Leaders, Elite Four, and Champion speculation

What if they go the Majora's mask route and have less gyms but more in between content.

In theory I actually really like this idea.

Having less gyms and more to do in terms of story and exploration than collecting badges would not be a bad idea and would certainly be a somewhat different direction for this series.
While I doubt this would happen, who knows? They've made a lot of changes in recent years. This time 3 years ago, would anyone have believed that we would have a non-permanent form of evolution? It's fun to think about.

I would find it hard to believe that we won't get a Water specialist for a gym leader or elite four due to Alola being surrounded by water. I reckon that we would get a Water gym leader/elite four member because of this.

I'm personally pulling for another Fire and Water Elite. Psychic, Dark, Steel, Ghost, Dragon, Fighting and Ice have all had their time. Let the other types bask in the Elite light!

Pulling for a Dark and Poison gym this generation.

what about mixed dual typed gyms?
That two types are present and not only one?
Or multiple where one is the main.
Seeing this ne bug/electric line of pokemon made me think about it more.

feeling this: -water, -bug,-fire,-dragon,-fairy,-dark,-ground,-grass

mixed with poison, ice, ghost, fighting and other a little.

I'd like for us to finally have a Dark gym, and that can represent a lack of color so I guess it can be the 8th.
Actually, it'd make more sense (in my opinion) to have normal (white) as the final gym(if rainbows were an inspiration to the gym's typing like you suggest) since white represents the combination of all the colors of a rainbow. For exemple, if the sun's rays(which are white) traverse through a prism, a small "rainbow" comes out of the prism.

And unless there's a city/town and/or it's surroundings that fits with dark types' theme (i.e. stealing, making tricks on people etc....), i doubt we're ever getting a dark type gym.

The type of the gym does not have to reflect the town it's in. Couriway Town is a harbor town with a Grass-type gym.

It's Coumarine, not Couriway.

And one of the routes near Coumarine City (route 12) is called "Fourrage road" and Fourrage is (in french) plant material consumed by grazing livestocks.

So yes, the typing of the gym does have to reflect the city /town and/or it's suroundings' theme. I forgot to put surrounding in my original post.

Another good example would be Sunyshore City, a city primarily using solar panels to generate electricity. Or Oreburg City, a mining town with a Rock type gym.

Also for the love of Arceus JUST GIVE US A DARK TYPE GYM.

I considered Normal for the same reason, but the idea of a Normal-type gym as the final gym seemed boring to me. I might just be a little biased towards Dark though, since it's my favorite type.

Personally, I don't think cities with gyms have to reflect their type--Vermilion, Violet, Dewford, Veilstone, Opelucid, and Santalune City hardly do this (though I might be missing 'surroundings' that could go with their type's theme, so feel free to correct me). In any case I'm pretty sure GF can come up with something clever if they ever decide to make a Dark Gym. Maybe have a Trick House in the city, or better yet--have the Trick Master as the gym leader.

Gyms fitting their locale kinda works for most gyms after gen 3, gens 1 and 2 only had a handful of fitting gyms. Off the top of my head:
Kanto
Pewter City Gym
Cerulean City Gym
Vermillion City Gym
Fuschia City Gym
Cinnibar Island Gym

Johto
Azalea Town Gym
Ecruteak City Gym
Olivine City Gym
Cianwood City Gyn
Mahogany City Gym

Only 5 gyms in both gens fit, where as from gen 3 onward most if not all of them fit. Only ones from then onwards I can think of are:
Fortree
Hearthome
Veilstone
Straiton

And that is likely cause either something was lost in translation or I'm dense.

Vermilion
Which has a power plant filled with electric types near it.
Whic has a very tall building(bellsprout tower) that can reach the sky(because of how tall it is).
Veilstone
Fine.
Whose entire lore is centered around dragon types.
Santalune
Whose next to a forest filled with bug types.
Maybe have a Trick House in the city, or better yet--have the Trick Master as the gym
But the trick house's "tricks" aren't in the same spirit as dark types'. Dark types use dirty tricks on others. That's why moves like thief are dark types. So unless game freak is going to make a city/town and/or it's surroundings with lots of criminals, i don't see a dark type gym coming soon tbh.

I don't get why you're equating dirty tricks as something only criminals do. If the association you look for is easy as having a nearby area with a lot of Pokémon of the same type, then they can just have a cave nearby with Dark types or something similar.

Oh sorry, poor wording of mine.

Let me rephrase that:
So unless they made a city/town and/or it's surroundings with rude people, i don't see a dark type gym coming soon tbh.

Then my other point still stands. By the same logic you used to justify Santalune, for example, then having an area with an emphasis on Dark-type Pokémon near the city would be enough. Or, since there's clearly exceptions, they can just throw one in and call it a day, but I digress.

Anyway I really look forward to the reveals of Leaders and Elites for this generation. I also hope Gym Badges go back to more simplistic designs!

Dewford worked in the original cause of flash and the darkness in the gym, ORAS kinda ruined the dynamic. As for Violet City and Bellsprout Tower, I cannot see the connection. Sounds about as flimsy as the space connection for Mossdeep gym.

Shalour City isn't filled with roller skaters; a town with a Dark-type Gym wouldn't need to be filled with "rude people" or what have you. The Leader wouldn't even need to be rude. Sidney and Karen are perfectly decent people, and Grimsley's just a pragmatist. Or, the Leader could be a criminal, but the rest of the town wouldn't have to be. Just look at Viridian City.

As much as i want this gym set i cannot see fire as the first gym(although we have chili as striaton gym leader) stand alone fire is one of those types that has high advantage in terms of defence and offense so making it a starting gym is quite farfetched but im not saying its impossible also there has been no indication of any fire type pokemon nearby the first route and besides litten there has been no new fire type pokemon introduced yet

I've had ideas for a dark type gym that I think solves some people's problem with the concept nicely: a gym that's essentially a community improvement center. It's for reforming former criminals. It could have former evil team members as gym trainers! The puzzles could be minigames based on community service. I dunno, I like it. Sort of plays on Sidney's "they called me a punk, but now I'm in the Pokemon league!" attitude.

I hope they'd consider making the Elite 4 to be Grass-Fire-Water-Electric this time, and the Champion can have various types, or perhaps Fairy. This is to pay tribute for the possible theme of the islands, Yellow, Red, Blue and Green, and the guardians which seem to be part Fairy. They can also make it so that each of the Elite Four hail from one of each island.

Also, the Gym Leaders could be Normal, Poison, Ground, Steel, Ghost, Flying, Dark, Dragon. These are the unused types in last gen's Gyms. If this is to happen, I'd say it'd be perfect compliment of last gen. I really hope it comes true.

The theme of the new games seems to very culture-centered, so I hope they associate it as well with the Gym Leaders and Elite 4.
