The Pokémon Company International announced today that the newest plush at the Pokémon Center is Detective Pikachu, in honor of the recently released Detective Pikachu Returns. His iconic hat and determined expression set him apart from other Pikachu plushes. Though he is similar in appearance to the talking Detective Pikachu available at Japanese Pokémon Centers, this plush does not talk. Detective Pikachu is 8 ¼ inches tall and available online now for $25.99 USD.
Also themed after Detective Pikachu, a new cup cozy has been added to the My Nintendo rewards store as a nod to the detective's in-game love of coffee. The cup cozy, which fits 16, 20, and 24 ounce cups, can only be redeemed for 500 Platinum Points. Points can be earned by anyone with a My Nintendo account for using certain Nintendo apps, or buying and playing certain games for the Nintendo Switch. This cozy ships only to the U.S. and Canada, and shipping charges cannot be paid with Points.
A more extensive merch announcement comes from Japanese retailer GU, the sister store to Uniqlo, whose new Pokémon line will be available online beginning November 23rd. Their collection “Poké Peace” includes lounge wear themed after Pikachu, Piplup, Scorbunny, Rowlet, Espurr, and Pichu. Kids’ lounge sets will be available for ¥2,490 ($16.41 USD), women’s for ¥3,490 ($23.01 USD), plush socks for ¥790 ($5.21 USD), and faux fur bags for between ¥1,190 and ¥2,490 ($7.84 to $16.41 USD). While it’s unclear if this collection will be available to shoppers outside of Japan, GU does have a location in New York City, and Uniqlo offers some GU products online to consumers in the U.S., U.K., and Canada.
