Spoilers Official Let's Go Pikachu/Let's Go Eevee Discussion Thread

I am mildly surprised by the apparent amount of people here that are themselves surprised at the online subscription. We knew that Nintendo Switch will have paid online services before the console was even released. As a matter of fact, it was announced during the same reveal as the Switch itself.

Wait

So we shouldn't complain because they're gonna release £60 games with the other rosters? that's a lot of expensive DLC.

"want the full current roster? go buy 7 games for full price :)"

And now you're making up nonsense just to attempt to justify an argument. Not a smart move. First of all, I said that it is POSSIBLE that they could be introduced later. Second of all, why would you automatically assume that any DLC they release will be the same full retail price as the actual games? I find it impossible to understand any of your logic.

Follow the advice I gave you. Hold your complaints until you actually know you have something to complain about.

I wouldn't go as far as "remake". Remake adds content. This is a remaster.

You mean like Pokémon following you again? or being able to ride any Pokémon you have that is large enough? Last time I checked, that is new content for Pokémon Yellow. So you have just used your very own logic to prove that this is more than a remaster. Plus, remastered games aren't built from scratch, they take the older version of a game and update it. You're kidding yourself if you think Gamefreak took FireRed and LeafGreen (or Pokémon Yellow itself), somehow ported it to switch and then 'remastered' it to become Pokémon Let's GO.

Remember, our partner can't but wild Eevee's can. Meaning nothing's stopping them from showing a new evo, especially with the upcoming movie.

Your partner can't evolve? I'm guessing it's going for a Mystery Dungeon feel then? Or do they just not think it possible for, say, a 200 lb Vaporeon hitching a ride on your shoulder?

Probably the latter.

The analysis machine has been turned on.
Soo, I think this wasn‘t posted here till now, if not here you go.

LOL, I laughed when he said "characters will be much more able to emote."

The pain from Sun and Moon has left scars in many.

Just thinking about how big a change not battling wild pokemon is to this particular remake right at the start:

Professor Oak "Hey, wait don't go out! Its unsafe! Wild Pokemon live in the tall grass! You need your own Pokemon for pro...oh screw it, they just stand there and stare at you until you throw a ball at them, go ahead. Come to my lab later if you get bored".

nope its a main series core RPG game with Pokemon go mechanics it is actually a main core series game but just with Pokemon go mixed into it as well as transferring Pokemon from Pokemon go into the new games that's all it is even the CEO confirmed that it is a main series game and not a spin off k

that's because it's based on Pokemon yellow that's why your partner can't evolve and that's normal for the new games it's not new at all

Nah I meant that the Let's GO sequels would just be "like DLC" but are fully priced games

and Pokemon following you and riding a few of them isn't enough to justify it lol

So the big question is how will they deal with the game corner? They cannot simple remove it from the story since you need to raid it and they cannot include it since there is a law about it. Would be simplier if they made it an arcade rather than a casino but game freak is so stubborn to do that...

I could see them revamping it to a simple house that is a secret base of TR and thats a shame

Also cycling road lost its uniqueness already wonder what explanation they would do to it or rather lack of....

I'm honestly a bit disappointed that they will be initiating the subscription for LGPE. But then again it's not as diverse as the handheld versions from what we've been hearing.. It's more akin to Pokken online then what we've seen with the handheld versions. As long as they don't do the same for other switch Pokémon games that are more competitive based it should be fine.
The pokedex completion can still be achieved with Go, and battles aren't as complicated so in the end it won't matter as much..

That's still something I have to question, if you're supposed to have a subscription for online services for the switch and switch games, won't Gen 8 fall under this by default? Cause if they don't and they can go online anyway, what's the point of the subscription?

I can't help but wonder if even Mystery Gift would be behind a subscription. Either in these games or future games if these don't have that function.

I'm going to be paying for it anyway so it's not a big deal to me but it will be to a lot of people.

I can understand the approachability angle. Someone getting into Pokemon with Sun and Moon is going to have a lot more to come to grips with than someone who got into it with Red and Blue. It likely looks pretty daunting, so an easier entry point like Let's Go is a pretty good idea.

He previously claimed that the games weren't remakes, but has yet to back that up. The catching experience isn't as big a change as he thinks it is.

I think we can chalk up the 'pleasing the veteran players' thing to be PR Speak, since they clearly avoid the part where the interviewer asks for features for veteran players.

How do you think the core RPG players will react to the Let's Go games? I know Pokémon Go was immensely popular but it had quite a mixed reaction amongst more 'hardcore' players - how do you appease those players and is it more a case that they should wait to 2019 for the game they're after?

Masuda: So the first thing I can say is that... I've been the director on the main series Pokémon RPGs - most of them, up until now - and there are a lot of kind of core tenets or rules of the series that I've never broke up until now, for example the whole idea of the flow of going into a battle against wild Pokémon, reducing their health and then catching them. That was one of the things that we just never wanted to change but, with these games specifically, I wanted to create a new experience for kids and with this time I decided to shift that towards more of a kind of casual, lighter experience. So that's one of the things I wanted to do.

So what would make me happiest would be if Pokémon Go players and traditional Pokémon RPG players actually come together and are throwing out Pokéballs together, either with the Joy-Con or using their smartphones, and really enjoying Pokémon together.

And that's also one of the things I just mentioned about the parent maybe going out and catching Pokémon and giving them to their children, and sharing that catching experience.

Apparently the underlines part is the way in which they want veterans to enjoy these games.

(I think @MetaBoss would like to see this)

You said that the game is inspired by Pokémon Yellow from 1999? Can we find the same story as it was then?

Masuda: So one thing I can say is that the game world, the overworld, the whole map, is very true to the original Pokémon Yellow games. And also the story kind of sticks to the story beats from Pokémon Yellow.

I think it confirms that we should not expect many story changes, or a significant amount of new areas.

Thanks, @PkmnTrainerV !

I am a lot less excited regarding LGPE, after reading this interview. The interviewer straight up asks Masuda if the more hardcore fans should wait for the 2019 game and skip LGPE because it wont be for them... and Masuda gives one of his classic non-answers. He couldnt even force himself to say "Oh, no, this game will be appealing for our hardcore fans too!".

This probably means the game will trully be very very casualized, and I can even see them try to make the regular main games more casual friendly in the future, if LGPE is a success.

So I am pretty sure I am not getting this game now. And if the next year game is SM tier disappointing (and probably even more casualized if LGPE sells well), I might not even get a Switch at all.

if LGEP sell really well it could be it’s own series

So I can wait till 2019 to play my Switch.

I'm going to pass time by playing Platinum, HG/SS, B/W and B2/W2 on an emulator so I don’t have to have a year of no Pokémon.
Tried playing Fire Red for a while and those games are not for me, so I doubt LGPE is going to improve the experience by a long shot.

One thing that interests me from the article is that Game Freak has many more people than they did a few years ago. It makes sense of course with multiple projects happening at once, but it seems to have roughly doubled in size in the last few years?

(From 143 two years ago to 'well over 300' now)
