Plus next to Username?

Why do some people have the "+" symbol next to their username? I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but I searched and it's nowhere to be found.

It means that user is on your friend/contact list.

It's for members on your friend list or in your contacts.

It means they are on your friends list.

Actually, it's only users on your contacts list. Not friends list.
