The Pokémon Players Cup II online tournaments for VGC and TCG have been announced to take place from September to December 2020. There will be no Pokkén Tournament DX tournament for the Pokémon Players Cup II. Players who participate in the first qualifying events for VGC and TCG can become eligible to compete in the Region Qualifiers by earning a high enough rank at the end of the first qualifying competitions.

Pokémon TCG players will need to take part in tournaments during the qualifying period on the Pokémon TCG Online application. Players must have a Pokémon Trainer Club account and Player ID by September 21 at 10:00 a.m. PDT and need to have logged in to the Pokémon TCG Online application before that date to take part. Registered players will automatically have 50 Tournaments Keys sent to their Pokémon TCG Online account before the start of the qualifier period which will run from September 28 to October 26. These Tournament Keys will be used to gain entry into a special Players Cup II qualifier Standard Format tournament queue. This means that each player will have the same number of attempts to try to qualify by using the Tournament Keys.

VGC players will need to battle in the Players Cup II Qualifier Online Competition in order to qualify for the Region Qualifiers. Participants will need to have linked their Pokémon Trainer Club account to their Nintendo account before the qualifying event starts. All participants will receive 50 Battle Points but will need to complete in at least one battle in order to recieve the Battle Points after the tournament has ended and rankings have been announced. Participants may register now until 4:59 p.m. PDT on September 24 on Pokémon Sword or Shield by entering the VS menu, then selecting Battle Stadium, Online Competitions and then Search Official Competitions. The competition will run from 5:00 p.m. PDT on September 24 until 4:59 p.m. PDT on September 27. Players in the Masters Division can only participate in this competition and participation for the Junior and Senior Divisions is unavailable.

This video game competition will have Double Battles and use the official VGC Ranked Battles Series 5 rules where Pokémon in the Galarian Pokédex and Isle of Armour Pokédex, the Alolan starter Pokémon and the Swords of Justice can be used except for Mythical Pokémon, Zacian, Zamazenta and Eternatus. Only Pokémon obtained in Pokémon Sword or Shield or Pokémon that have a battle-ready symbol on the summary screen can be used. Pokémon in the player's party cannot have the same held item as each other and Pokémon in the player's party cannot share the same Pokédex number. All Pokémon will be automatically set to level 50.

Four Pokémon will be used each match. Each battle will last a maximum of seven minutes. Players will have 90 seconds to pick which four Pokémon they will battle with and 45 seconds to select a move or switch Pokémon. Participants may battle 15 times a day for a maximum of 45 battles.
