I'd much rather watch a time travel episode about Ash meeting his parents when they were kids. Kukui is a nice guy with a tough Pokemon; been there and done that.

Would make for an interesting plot but doubt they'll do something like that

Agreed, the Zeraora arc made good use of his classmates appearing only at the end of Part 2 so something like that here would be good

I'd like to know Delia's past too. But there are some things about Kukui that need to be solved with more urgency. We need to know which is Kukui's battle strength and what was his relationship with Guzma. Did he only finished the Island Challenge or is he a champion too? Also, the guy only has one episode so far that has focused exclusively on a problem of his (SM092).

I don't recall Ash moving through time outside of Movie 12 (without Celebi), but this episode feels cheap for the simple reason that Celebi has no reason to care about Ash meeting kid Kukui.

Seems more contrived than most episodes of Pokemon, would be nice if they give us a good reason for Celebi to turn up

So based on the summary for the next episode, only Torracat and Ash travel to the past but Torracat doesn't evolve

After getting thrown into the past by Celebi's "Time Travel", Satoshi and Nyaheat encounter a young boy. Meanwhile, Professor Burnet finds a picture from Professor Kukui's childhood...

Summary:
Satoshi was doing battle training in the woods when a huge explosion occurred as Nyaheat and Lugarugan's moves hit each other! The explosion startled the mythical Pokémon Celebi, who retaliated with "Time Travel"! This resulted in Satoshi and Nyaheat getting thrown into the past. There, they meet a young boy accompanied by a Nyabby. Meanwhile, Professor Burnet finds a picture of Professor Kukui as a child inside an old book. When Professor Kukui sees this, he starts talking about his memories...

Oh, I didn't know that you were one of the writers for the anime. I'm not 100% certain that it'll evolve at this point either, but at least I'm leaving that door open since the saga isn't over yet nor do we have any evidence that Torracat is against evolving, and I don't act as if my opinion is a fact.

Who's to say that "Gao" isn't Ash's Incineroar (Gaogaen), but with a nickname received to distinguish it from Kukui's? They've done that several times this series, with Snowy, Sandy, and Katsuo (Kahili's Toucannon)?
