DP162

LMAO, they're pretty much the same if you ignore the point meter.

Not really... in a Gym Battle you won't see Ash or the Leader thinking about making their attacks look good and things like that
It's a different style of battle, but it still a battle so it's still ridiculous to say Contest Battles aren't "real battles"... should I remind people of May VS Drew in Kanto GF ? some of the regular Contests also had nice battles...

I mean you wouldn't really know the difference if there was no point meter and no Lillian.

Like the Dawn/Johanna contest battle, since it wasn't in a hall it showed how they're similar.

Actually, the difference is still very obvious to me
They battle in a beautiful way and make many combinations
In a regular battle they never focus on the beauty of attacks and while some combinations might be used, we don't see them as much as in Contests
It's still a battle, but a different style of battle

Just like I said before, that doesn't mean it's not a "real battle" - it is... and some Contest Battles were even better than some Gym Battles... (for example, Dawn VS Zoey in Jubilife was so much better than the Pastoria Gym)

I think Scott's point still stands. Take out the judges, points, and MC, and from a distance and at a glance a typical battle and a contest battle wouldn't look any different.

Of course, the fact that contest fights aren't any less important than regular battles holds true, too. So point-for-point, you guys are both right.

Yeah, I didn't try to say they're two completely different things XD maybe I didn't write that good
Whatever, I hope Ursula's Plusle and Minun will give us a good battle since as far as I can remember that Hoenn kid's ones didn't do anything remarkable... it'd be nice if they'd have Ursula's personality and be "evil" XD

I still hope those two will be Creepy Twins rather than being similiar to Harley's "Devil Incarnate" Wigglytuff or Ursula's Egoist Gabite. I guess that means only Ursula's Wormadam is the normal one out of this bunch, who is just some stupid Bug without much power, skill or intelligence.

Well to be fair, we only saw Wormadam when it was on stage, and Pokemon rarely reveal much of their personality on stage. {other than a few}

I wonder if Ursula and Dawn will get along better this time....

Nah.

Since it seems confirmed that Pluse and Minun are Ursula and that she's coming back... it's prediction time... I think the DP161 episode will begin withe Ursula having won a fourth ribbon off somewhere else and Dawn and her will both be competing for their fifth ribbon... Now, from what we know of the OP and dialogue between the characters, GF will at least feature double appeals and probably double battles. Now all of Dawn's ribbons having been single appeals and single battles (Piplup v. Prinlup, Piplup v. Glaceon, Ambipom v. Delcatty and Pachirisu v. Gabite) and they've show in the past that she's had problem with those... Considering they've recently done a special Dawn training for double battles episode with her fire and ice combination, I really doubt the writers would pass that opportunity to give Dawn her fifth ribbon, her first ribbon earned through double battle and reestablish the Ursula rivalry... Ursula lost at the beginning of the Whirl Cup and resented Dawn for it, so when they each had three ribbons, they met in a contest battle... I think Ursula will go the Harley route, meaning she'll lose a bunch of times to Dawn before winning one contest against her in a filler saga...

or

Now question : Is there a specific rule that forbids a coordinator who already has five ribbons to enter a contest... cause if not, then Ursula could already have 5 (confirming her presence at the GF), enter the contest just to get her revenge on Dawn and preventing her from getting to the GF but end up losing to Dawn in the battle rounds...

While both scenarios end with a victory for Dawn, the second one just seems more evil and deliciously evil on Ursula's part...

While Ursula doesn't seem to be evil ENOUGH to do the second one, both of them sound very very good. I don't think she will lose that much in the filler saga, but I honestly don't think she will win enough to be a huge threat.

I definetly see her do something like that. I wouldn't be so much evil as something that would make Machiavelli really really proud

I think there might be, because when Harley had 5 ribbons at the end of BF and he wanted to prevent Haruka from getting her 5th, he had to hire Musashi to compete against her. I don't think he'd have entrusted the job to her if he didn't have to.

Darn it! I guess that leaves us with the first option, or Ursula winning, but considering she will fight in first rounds... F***. At least I hope we see some nice Nasty Plot spamming here.

Well it seems Dawn will lose it. I don't think writers will make Dawn win over Urara two times in a row. Especially because of her last win. Dawn didn't deserve it. I think writers will make Urara win this time.

Her pokemon learns a new move, uses it in a creative and interesting way... and defeats a dragon type pokemon despite a type disadvantage... What can make you say she didn't deserve it... Harley lost to May three times in row so the Ursula won't lose two times in a row rule sorta goes out the window... I think it's likely Dawn'll win here breaking the double performance curse. Remember that there's still about 20 episodes before the summer where the Grand Festival arc will probably be held, If she wins here, that gives the writers the time to have an episode to focus on her capturing a togepi or togetic, one episode to evolve it and probably one training episode with all of her pokemon. Since the writers have always had Dawn participate in contests every 15-20 episodes that would mean a final contest at the end of April or in the beginning of May, which would the writers would slightly be rushing her storyline... Anyway, let's just wait and see how it ends, for all we know, Jessie might end up winning this one and getting her fifth ribbon in Sunnyshore while Ash earns his eighth badge à la Hearthome...

I really don't want the writers to recycle what they did with May i.e. make her rush to THE LAST CONTEST BEFORE THE GF and then have it win at the last minute... that would be repetitive and cliché

It's actually kinda amusing when you think about it. The last time Dawn faced against Ursula, she used the cute electric-type while the latter used the mean ol' ground-type. This time Ursula's using the electric critters while Dawn is using Mamoswine.

I just means that the writers are using their brains in trying to mirror their last fight... Then, when it came time to choose the pokemon... Double battle + electric pokemon = Plusle and Minun...

Urara is pretty cool to me, she may be snotty, but she has a good team.

People really shouldn't call Dawn's team unbalanced though, especially with Ursula's team. Two Electric Rodents, a Worm, and a Dragon Shark.

Honestly though, Ursula should win, it'd be pretty odd if she didn't.

Jessie should get her last two ribbons in a filler and Ash's battle with Volkner.

I hope in this episode, Jessie makes it past the appeals, and uses Seviper somehow.

I'm beginning to wonder about that snake, and if it will be a permanent Team Rocket Pokemon, will it get a 5th generation evolution, or will it be let go.

Seviper is Jessie's best Pokemon and is my favorite from her team.

I can see Seviper getting the boot later, many people in Serebii's next Pokémon Thread say how she will release Seviper and get a Dunsparce to promote HG/SS, even though Dunsparce doesn't fit her much despite beind based on a snake. I think she will release Seviper after it wins a contest, like many there say.
