Gym leaders/ Pokémon League

Iris is the last Gym Leader, whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa?

That's right, a character who we thought was anime exclusive but turned out to have a small role in the games is actually the eighth and final gym leader.

How will the Best Wishes anime ever handle this?

I'm guessing it's going to be a case similar to Misty , Ash didn't know she was a gym leader til later.

Who do you guys think the hardest one will be? For me, the most wishy washy gym is the 6th. Koga is epic, especially against my Venusaur, Jasmine was a failure, Winona was balanced, and Byron's Bastiodon should have been batter, but he had a good team.

We all know exactly how this'll turn out:

Ash, "Alright! One more badge to go!"

Iris, "Yeah, you almost did it!"

Dent, "We're almost at the league!"

-gets to city-

Iris, "Now you have to battle me."

-Ash's jaw drops-

But, yeah. =O Flying gym leader better have 6 WARGLE! It's so epic, you go in, and it's like GARY MOTHERFUCK-WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGLE. And you're scared out of your mind knowing that death has come early.

The first one will be tough. No matter what, you will not have the type advantage with your starter.

debunked a second time that is..
If you're refering to Falkner, he certainly doesn't count. The last two Gens have had Rock-type as the first Gym. Including Brock, that's enough to put anyone in the mindset of "1st Gym = Rock", no matter how optimistic they might be.

Just like how the 7th Gym = Ice is now quickly become the standard. Lucky 7!

Wouldve been a good plot line for the anime had we not found out in the game.
Yes, information that's available in the Instruction Manual.

It wasn't going to be a closely guarded secret, I'm afraid. They didn't even try Silhouetting her with a "?" even, so it's clear Iris holds some significance. The anime will just have to make due with an ignorant Ash.

Yea...wouldn't be the first time I suppose.

Sorry, I'm pretty new to Pokémon - why are the gym leaders of such interest?

Has Iris's reputation changed yet? I expect people to go from "Waahh! I want Brock and Misty!" mode to "What the he-.." to "She's so badass!" mode within the next three days.

Interesting..

I bet that guy is having a bunch of fun. Anyone find any other pics?

Guess the fandom got our wish. A female electric gym leader, a bug type gym leader, and a flying type gym leader.

I think the Ice gym leader looks a little bit like Kaname Tosen from Bleach. A black man with his eyes covered.

Well, Dento would be easy if you picked up the pigeon.
And Basurao or the Tadpole or Dangoro for Pod, and for Korn you can go with Shimama or Monmen or Churine. All of those I assume are capture-able by then.

Fan-art.

I think everyone is pretty content with Iris...I haven't heard that much complaining this gen.

We'll see I guess.

...and they are a huge part of the game.

We don't know how far it is between the starting town and Sanyou City, so it is rather difficult to gauge the types of pokemon that will be available then. Mamepato is the resident bird and we have seen one at Level 8 in a trailer... I guess you could train up a Mamepato or something if you chose Mijumaru and are fighting Dento.

Still, it's a relief knowing that only the monkey pokemon will have a type advantage to your own starter. The second pokemon of all three seems to be a Yorterie. In terms of the levels, it is on the same plane as the non-Gen II gym leaders. If you are training a team of one (maybe two pokemon), the starter should have levelled up to the point where it learned new moves and/or evolved.

Apparently you get the advantageous monkey before the gym battle, the one that is weak to your starter, but strong against the gym leaders monkey.
