Gym leaders/ Pokémon League

Relief in that your match with them is no longer "official" and you fight them a second time with a more superior team :p

Eh, fair enough. At least their rematch teams and levels are good (unlike HGSS's, which were odd to say the least).

Good explanation. I'll take that. Because they're really lame the first time.

I like how the Elite 4 is structured around opposing types. In Gen I, Ghost and Psychic traditionally had a rivalry.

When Dark was created, people thought its counterpart was Psychic, or a new light type while others argued that the Dark-type embodied dirty styles of fighting, while fighting type is honourable.

Well the new ability Justice Heart supports this: Dark Attacks do no damage and boost attack.

Its cool that they're counterparts :)

I didn't notice that the Elite Four was structured around opposing types. Nice touch, though.

Apart from that, I've tried to translate the Elite Four's dialogue from the videos so far. I hope I'm allowed to post it here? (Or should it be in the video translations thread? No-one asked for it, so I'm unsure). Not sure how correct it is, so if there are any errors, please say. Giima was the last one the uploader faced, so he's the one who says that you should go on and face the Champion.

Put in a spoiler tag for length. If the translation cuts off halfway through, please let me know. ; It seemed to do that when I posted Cynthia's dialogue.

Katorea

Who are you?

The uncouth Trainer who disturbed my sleep…?

You…

Hmm…

You seem somehow tough, with both strength and kindness…

Just don’t give me a horribly boring, tedious battle…

[Battle starts]

[Last Pokemon]

Even now, I won’t panic or make a fuss.

[Defeat]

You are an elegant and excellent trainer. Your Pokemon also possess dignity. I’m happy to have battled you.

[Post-battle]

There are still members of the Elite Four you haven’t battled, aren’t there? It’s of no concern to me. Please go on.

Renbu

Challenger… My name is Renbu.

In order to fully travel the path of hand-to-hand fighting, I continue to train under my teacher, Adeku…

And you are also a Trainer recognized by my teacher!

That strength… How far does it go? I want you to show me!

[Battle starts]

[Last Pokemon]

My last one! We’ll muster all our remaining strength!

[Last Pokemon on low health]

… This could be the end. Everything depends on the next move!

[Defeat]

There’s no such thing as the strongest Pokemon. There’s also no such thing as the best combination…

As such, constantly winning is difficult.

But, a heart that searches for strength and feelings of wanting to know the strongest…

I believe that’s what I lack.

So as you have those qualities, I respect you.

[Post-battle]

Just as I expected.*

Aim for even greater heights as you fight the other members of the Elite Four!

*The screen was fuzzy here, so I couldn't make it out that well. I think he said something like this, though.

Shikimi

‘That man’s eyes were filled with the flames of hell.
For the sake of a single justice, he rejected everything other than himself’

… The passage I read just now was from my novel.

… I tried basing it on a challenger from some time ago, but it’s turned out somehow sad.

I’m sorry. You must be a challenger.

I’m a Ghost-type Trainer, Shikimi of the Elite Four. I’ll be your opponent!

[Battle starts]

[Last Pokemon]

… It seems like my last chapter is starting now.

[Last Pokemon on low health]

Before long, this story’s epilogue will begin.

[Defeat]

… Wow, I completely lost.* I’m struck dumb.

I could say several things, but I can’t express them well enough in words. If I was to say why, it would surely be because I’m completely caught up in my present feelings.

But, please let me just say this. You’re great!

[Post-battle]

I-I-I’m sorry! First, I have to apologise to my Pokemon. Because of me, they had to experience painful feelings. I’m really sorry.

Ah! You’re not the one at fault. It’s the way things are in a battle. It’s because of that approach that I became a member of the Elite Four, after all!

*This was going away from the literal translation a bit, but I think it might mean something like that contextually.

Giima

Oh, dear… What day is it today?

Challengers just come one after another…

Oh, well. I’m Giima of the Elite Four. In accordance with my role, I’ll be your opponent.

[Battle starts]

[Last Pokemon]

Well, then… No matter what kind of battle it is, I won’t give in.

[Defeat]

If you win, the person who you were facing loses. That’s what’s known as a battle.

A good gambler*, having won, should neither boast nor lose focus, but should simply seek the next victory.

[Post-battle]

… Amazing. You’ve won against all of the Pokemon League. But, it’s not over yet! There’s one more opponent to whom you must prove your strength. The strongest of the Pokemon League, Champion Adeku…

Failing that, that man called N…

I don’t know which of them will be your opponent, but examine the statue in the central plaza. Then you should advance to the final room.

*As long as it's shoubushi and not shoubu shi, it should mean 'gambler'. ;

Some of Giima's dialogue (as well as some of Shikimi's) confused me, so sorry if there are any errors. Also probably best to take my translations with a pinch of salt, so to speak.

I'm disappointed with lack of Gym Leader rematches. However, all the games with a VS Seeker in it never do. The third game will inevitably allow you to call people, like Gym Leaders, for rematches.

^ I lol'd; Shikimi is a ghost writer.

I still don't hear what people are talking about. I've read summaries and only seen the Vs. Recorder being mistakenly called the Vs. Seeker.

There are rematches I know. Serebii mentioned them in his discovery thread. But there is no clear answer as to how they happen.

So they're taking the Hoenn approach at making them random? At least in Emerald, there was an icon even if we weren't alerted to it.

They're taking the Hoenn approach with a lot it seems. I guess it's to be expected. Oh well, perhaps Gym rematches will pop up in the third version. Hopefully like Platinum and not like Emerald.

Yeah all the 3rd Versions have the Gym Rematches (Well except for HG/SS a remake)

IT is weird they are taking a lot from Hoenn six HM's including Dive no gym matches in the original. All new poke (out of all the Hoenn pokemon only two were related to a older pokemon) hm...

EDIT: Never mind Hoenn has eight
