Preview BW101: Soryu Gym! Iris VS Shaga!!

I'm just hoping at some point Iris will be seen in her Champion outfit she looks so beautiful in it. Now I want to see an episode that reveals Cilan's past like Iris will have. I mean I want to see his parents and I want to know why he's afraid of Purrloin. And cute little school girl Iris. I guess she had a hard time at school then!! I wonder why? Was the teacher mean to her? Were the children mean to her? I hope we see her parents too.

I want to her see in her BW 2 outfit also. But I think she should wear it when she gets her cameo like what they did with May. I can't tolerate her as of right now, so a surprise like that would make me feel good about things for her. Atleast it would be better than what they made Dawn wear. Which was the same thing she always wore.

and as a matter of fact she only wear her new clothes when they were in snowpoint city for ash gym battle vs candice

Re: Iris vs. Shaga

I expected Best Wishes would pull this.

We all did. Drayden Vs Iris was pretty much inevitable.

Even if there is backstory with Drayden and Iris, I really don't think that gives Iris the exclusive right to battle him.

I think it does. Her goal is to become a Dragon Master. Why not battle Drayden?

From what we've seen, there's really nothing notable about Drayden and Iris' relationship.

They could make it more notable in the episode itself, set up something, give it more "oomph".

Iris was not devastated when Drayden ended her winning streak and bears no hard feelings over it,

...Why should she? There's other things that could be established for Iris to be bothered about and get her character affected.

Drayden only had praises of potential for Iris, so... there's no drama factor at all that could draw in hype.

It could be really interesting to see Iris fail here. Drayden had praises of potential for Iris? Well, he did give her an Axew to see how she'd go. I personally don't see bad about that. If anything, judging by Iris' reactions to the mention of Opelucid, she's afraid of meeting him. Why is that? Could it be because she failed evolving Axew and taming a Dragonite? Could it be that she does not want to bear being told that she failed? That's actually interesting. If that's the case, there already is a drama factor set in place. It's small, I agree, but then, the drama factor could become bigger in the episode itself like with Paul Vs Brandon with a new never before revealed revelation.

This prospect is about as interesting as Trip and Alder's past, which is to say it's not interesting at all.

Not much has been set to say that this match-up is interesting. I'm personally interested myself to see how this will unravel in the episodes themselves.

I suppose there's more to it that we'll be shown, but the Iris-can't-adapt-to-classrooms thing doesn't really work either since we've been shown many many times that Iris' way is just about always the right way in this show.

Yup! I don't know about Iris being right about it. Judging by the magazine scans, it looks like Iris couldn't adapt to classrooms because it weren't her thing and the reason why she was sent out on a journey was to evolve her Axew and meet Dragon-type Pokemon to help. If she hasn't evolved her Axew yet, then it must mean that she's wrong and that she's a hopeless case. So yeah, she's not shown to be right about that. I'll still support her and wish her the best to be right and finally evolve her Axew!

Maybe Drayden didn't take well to Iris rejecting his efforts to hone her skills and maybe that's why she was apprehensive about Opelucid, or she's just nervous because at the time when she thought she'd have to go there she only had a weak Axew with one crazy-overpowered move. Now her Axew has TWO crazy-overpowered moves AND a godly Dragonite, so unless Drayden happens to care that much about Axew evolving (which is possible - we could be revisiting Kanto-era's PSA about evolving Pokemon), I really don't see a reason for Iris and Drayden to battle.

That could be it. I don't think that Giga Impact and Outrage are overpowered moves due to the consequence they give out, but that's another thing. Deciding to not evolve Axew sounds like a terrible thing. It's not looking like it will make him cry like Piplup did and give him an everstone. I really wish that it isn't the case.

And since she's going to be using Excadrill, it looks more like a generic rematch for Drayden to see how far Iris has come since they battled in Iris' village... except Excadrill isn't representative at all of Iris' primary goal: Dragon Master. Unless this is more than a 1-on-1, this rematch is likely to only serve as another means of praising Iris for doing nothing.

I could see Iris showing him Excadrill and Dragonite to show that she's been improving in other departments to "run away" from her goal and not be disappointed. Iris using Excadrill to help train Axew is reminding me of Ash with his Gible. For him to know how to train it, he gained experience from training other Pokemon. At least, that's how I see it. I also don't know how a 1 vs 1 rematch would be a means of praising Iris, or why it's bad that she'll be battling. Drayden knew Iris in the past, so it's certainly not like a trainer coming to him out of nowhere to challenge him for a gym badge or anything.

What I'm happy about the most about this rematch is that Drayden won't pull out a legendary trio of Dragon-type Pokemon like Reshiram, Zekrom and Kyurem to use against Iris to teach her something, since that would make as make sense as a chicken laying golden eggs come to think of it, that would make more sense.... Don't you think it would be stupid as well? Using legendaries against an opponent who doesn't to beat them and teach them something? That would be indirectly glorifying Iris since it would make Drayden look like he was afraid of losing to her, so he had to use 3 Pokemon with godlike power to even beat her. If he did and then Iris went alone somewhere at night being bothered of losing to the power of godlike Pokemon to become a better trainer at... beating the almost impossible, then that would just lose every ounce of credible development and would be just downright stupid and horrible writing. Luckily that isn't the case here. I wasn't even worried that it would happen.

I would much rather have Ash battle Drayden for the hell of it, in Gym Battle format, so at least Ash can have one last gym battle that resembles something of a fair challenge that reflects on how far Ash has come rather than how pitiful he and his team is for accepting a handicap that was only legal because the gym leader's an egomaniac. This close to the League, Ash needs all the experience he can get. What we don't need is another vanity project for Iris.

I think it would be pretty cool if Ash battled Drayden as well. It would give Ash an advantage over Drayden if he took note of his battling style against Iris though.

I really hope Drayden beats Iris! I respect Iris but a win at this point really wouldn't give her the progress she needs.

She needs to have something that encourages her but still make her want to evolve more. A decent battle where she shows that she has improved but not that much that she already can beat a Dragon master!

A Ash vs Drayden would be really nice and it's a shame it won't happen. would be a good prep for the League.

Well Dawn wore her Platinum clothes from Battling a Cute Drama! to Pillars of Friendship! so I don't see why Iris can wear her Champion clothes for a few episodes.

Something that occured to me while skimming through the thread...Iris and Shaga don't appear to be as close in the anime as their game counterparts. It may be possible that Shaga won't even remember Iris until she jogs his memory of their battle way back when.

And while her goal was to evolve Kibago and she did not achieve that, the elder might be like ”oh I can see that it's really strong even without evolving good job”

As for Kairyu...I wonder if one of them will ask if she evolved it from a bb.

Re: Iris vs. Shaga

Correct me if I'm wrong but, didn't the Village Elder give Iris her Kibago, not him?

Hopefully at the end of this episode , Iris will be ask to be Drayden Apprentice or Soryu city Gym Leader !
Then Iris will think about this until the final episode of ''Worst Wishs'' !
There she will have a battle with Ash and finally reach a decision .
Then Next year , Team Plasma will make their move !

Iris and ash already battles twice. There is no need for it. We know that Iris is strong.

No. Hopefully she will see that she has a lot to learn and will decide to travel along Satoshi in Gen VI region. ;P

new image, new summary(?)

I love it how Iris is raising her fist in that scan. About to kick some ass.

Really, really looking forward to this small Iris arc. Both episodes are looking really nice, but this battle in particular is something that I've been looking forward to see since BW33. Hopefully it won't be rushed as f*ck.

Me, too, although it looks like Iris almost punched Excadrill in the back of the head.

I agree about the battle. I wonder what kind of moves Drayden's Pokemon have? It looks like Druddigon is using Double Team, which is a move that's pretty much out of the blue here.

I'm so glad Iris is going with Doryuzu as well for this battle. It wouldn't feel right if she battled Shaga again without it.

There's still no mention of a third battle, so I am guessing that it will just be a 2-on-2 gym battle again.

Do u really mean Iris is stronger than Ash.. come on.. u r missing the whole point.. Ash is a well experienced pokemon trainer being in 6 leagues and being a diverse pokemon type trainer.. meanwhile on the other hand we havent seen Iris really training her pokes seriously.. Axew stil unevolved(although knowing many new moves) lacks the power to battle stronger pokemon. Emolga not getting many battle eps but wins when it makes a guest appearance.. Excadrill pokeball is becoming rusted day by day, now it battles Drayden's Haxorus.. Dragonite was kicked out of junior cup by Krookodile.. Even if its a 3vs3/4vs 4 Ash will surely wipe the floor with Iris given she hasnt had any proper training for her pokemon. This is first proper experience for Iris to learn how to train any pokemon properly if she wants to be a dragon trainer/master..

Why does the anime have to give us the impression that iris is such a brat, i mean even a scan of her shows how bratty she is, i really wished they made her more poised, kinda like dawn and may.
