I thought it was slightly better with some of the Pokémon getting colour for the second ep but in general it is terrible xD I liked the song as well though the "Yeah he he hey" stuff at the end was a little annoying.

Yeah I was a little disappointed that the opening only mentions Ash's journey but from what you've told me it won't matter either way (I've been trying to stay away from game spoilers).
