All Friends Competing And Blast Offs

I am wondering if and why all of Ash's friends are competing in the Pokémon League. The first five parts of the anime did not have anyone but Ash and some recurring characters competing. What is it in for all of Ash's friends to qualify? Especially the girls? I mean, all of Ash's previous girl companions never competed in previous conferences. They would sometimes compete in Contests or Showcases? What's in it for Lana, Lillie, and Mallow to not compete in the Contests or Showcases? Also, why in Alola, Alola! not show Bewear rescuing Team Rocket? The crew did poor judgement on having Bewear rescue her friends.

Ash's friends couldn’t participate before because those leagues had actual qualifications. Anyone with a pulse and a Pokemon can enter in the Alola league.

Bingo. This is how low the standards of this league are. And judging by the list they gave us of who the main combatants are, not exactly stiff competition.
