Since its confirmed that no former travelling companions will come with him, I'd like to see the entire gang(Misty, Brock, May, Max, Tracey and Dawn) at least VISIT for a few episodes.

Cilan and Iris then? They are also a part of the gang.

Maybe later. They JUST left after all (and got Specials to boot!)

...and, well, they're just not as popular as those other guys (with the exception of Tracey)

Also, there are several old friends who could reappear thanks to having Mega-evolable Pokemon. (Ya never know!)

I would love to have all his friends back, but I can only see a few returning. Iris is a definite as the girls in from every anime generation always come back in the following generation for a few episodes. This also means it is unlikely that Misty, May, and Dawn will return. In addition, Iris's fear of ice types is never explained, I see only two reasons. One is as child she was badly injured by an ice type, but if that were the case there would have been an episode telling the story then something happen to rid her of the fear. The other is that her fear comes from specializing in dragon types which were only weak against ice type attacks and dragon type attacks. So her return would mean that she would come up against fairy types, who's attacks are strong against dragons and are immune to dragon type attacks. If she only find out when facing one, we will be in for a laugh. Until B/W Brock Gen was Ash's male companion the tradition may only be for the girls. Although Brock did appear in one episode of B/W, it was side story episode and only meets Cilan after he, Ash, and Iris part ways. Max never appears after Advance Gen, further proving that only females return, so chances are Cilan will not come back. Ritchie I could see returning as Ash's friend and rival maybe with a mega pokemon. Todd Snap could return to do some work with Alexa.

Definitely. I feel writers are beginning to create for them unecessary problems following wrong direction by puting too many new characters in cast, which is causing consequence of older ones being neglected more and more leaving lot of good characters in doomland and everything positive they could bring on table.

Im getting tired of this unecessary and repetitive girl/boy(from recent) replacing,and quite frankly it would be much better stopping this parade altogether giving previous girls opportunity to be developed more and hve their efforts and started storyline lead them somewhere, opening new subplots around them or tying up their older ones which were left unfinished.

Bringing all time favorite would be a nice twist and something completely revolutionary to pokemon series in form of following someone with certain experience and history behind himself taken in new exciting directions, renewing friendship with Ash and go on bigger, better things as experienced trainers breaking new grounds with their dreams and introducing more challenging obstacles they would need to pass in order to accomplish goals or even developing higher ambitions as result of growing and chamges through life which affected them continuing from where writers left things.
It would serve as bridge which would connect current series with previous sagas as well giving to group and show more identity resulting in more stable cast. To older fans it would act as pseudo new character being happy to see them brought to life again, while to new kids it would give opportunity to get know them strengthening Ash connection to past and giving more continuity.

It would allow us to see characters we grew to like in action, updated, learn new things and upgrade pokemon teams growing stronger as persons and trainers. Which sounds more interesting than letting them abandoned in past forgotten.

For example i think it would be interesting if we saw Misty come back after so much time serving as way to shake up current monotony and see how she woluld work in today firmat having baclground and certain level of experience behind herself enjoying in her stubborn, strongwilled attitude mixed with caring,enthusastic side.
She had lot of untapped potential left using most abundant and widespread type giving material to create worthwhile story arc for sequel. Such as build up from Whirl Cup through events which would allow to grow forward.
She could leave gym to learn new things expanding on knowledge about water , develop new battle style, battle stronger trainers/ water specialists, confront with her fears. Etc.
Seeing how her idol is Lorelei and E4 are masters of one type they could even take her down this route.

Seeing May come back would be great too enriching her roaster with new exciting pokemon, gain new rivals, tie up unfinished business with previous ones like Drew or Harley(one of top favorite rivals of mine of all time with his femoinine, scurvy side), learn how to fully develop her own contest style working on strategies and new combinations helping her to win Grand Festival.

Having Tracey back would be cool too giving us chance to dive into his past and backstory knowing nothing sadly, go through some character development, see him in battles and action for change, and his occupation of being watcher felt unique seeming like it had potential for something worthwhile.
But Brock like i mentioned in previous post, Dawn, Cilan etc too.

There are ton of interesting already existing characters and why not use them for change doing continuation to their stories and bringing new life to them through so many new directions and ideas through which writers could explore on their personalities, pokemon and dreams? Instead of just adding one after another ending unexplored and unused to full power like his predecessors.

I know for fact how this approach would make many people happy and more excited for pokemon series increasing ratings. Unlike its case now killing people joy when they erase continuity abandoning ex companions and go through repetitive, predictable cycle.

And i think it would be good idea for change in investing more into previous companions which won hearts from many of us expanding on stories, developing new relationships with new characters and strengthening friendship between themselves and Ash making world feel closer and more interactive. Along with showing newly acquired skills and knowledge gathered in meantime going on next stage, advancing further in their own dreams and aims they set infront of themselves. Through sequels.

what was wrong with charizards return. the only problem i had with it is that he stayed in his pokeball most off the rest of black and white. know i agree with you on dawns return. in dp she looked up to ash now in black and white ashes calling him a kid and laughing at him just like iris did. i hated that

Sometimes I wonder if they will bring back Misty due to how many people want Misty back in the anime...

I think if every single one of Ash's friends returned it'd be way to crowded. It can work for some shows but it seems to much for Pokemon, that is if they were to be walking with Ash on his journey like they usually do.

I think maybe having them as encounters in cities Ash visits and maybe having them join Ash on his journey as they meet and maybe having one of Ash's friends stay back in a city every now and then and so forth. I'm not really sure how it would work.

I wonder how it would go if it was just Ash and his pokemon and no partner with him?

I would personally love to see Brock return. Cilan in gen 5 felt too forced into the season, like they were trying to make a copy of Brock and not a fresh, original character. I'd rather have the real deal.

He, like with Dawn's cameo, hardly did anything. His return felt insignificant to me, and this is coming from a huge Charizard fan.

Charizard did bugger all, as soon as BW2 came out they just rushed the Anime, and it was just an evil overload of nostalgia.
Gary, for Mega Blastoise, and Trip for more character. That's kinda it.

Serena mentioned that she knew Ash from Oak's Pokemon Camp, so I assume that it's possible Gary went to this camp as well (I mean why wouldn't he go to his grandfather's pokemon camp?) so maybe that could lead to Serena remembering him as well or just a battle between the two or with Ash again.

Also Mega Blastoise promotion.

I want to see Takeshi make a guest appearance, or maybe travel with Satoshi-tachi for a few episodes. Why? Because despite having had his nice little episode with Dent, I want to see him interact with Satoshi again. I definitely don't want him (or any past traveling companions) to return to the main cast, though. The only reason I'd want that is for nostalgia reasons, but I despise the idea of nostalgia glasses. Looking at it objectively, I think Takeshi was a pretty boring companion, only made interesting in DP because of Guregguru.

Maybe Max if time actually passes in the show. That'd be perfect. Or May AND Max, May with Mega Blaziken, Max with Mega Sceptile or something, to promote RS remakes.

I wouldn't really want anyone to replace the current companions, but it would be great if at least some of Ash's old friends appeared every once in a while for an episode or two. It would make things more natural. People don't just forget about those they were close friends with. When someone's close to you, you'll definitely look for the opportunity to meet again, especially since in the anime Pokemon world it doesn't seem to be a big deal to travel around even to another region.

He wasn't one of Ash's friends, but I think it would be interesting to see Harley again. I really liked his character design His personality was kind of nasty, though, if I remember correctly. But that's just an opportunity for some interesting character development!
