Looking for competitive battling help.

I am new at competitive battling. i am looking for help really on how to build a team and such.
My strategy: i set up traps and then go into offense.
Pokemon: i can really use any Pokemon.

Well let's start with specifics, what is your current competitive pokemon team at the moment.

So standard Hyper Offense? Start out with Deoxys-D and get off Rocks and 3 sets of Spikes then add 5 Sweepers/Revenge Killers.

Following what @Professor_Jared said, what teir/format are you planing to play in? (Overused, Rarelyused, Ubers, Singles, Doubles, etc.) Also, might I direct you're attention to the BBL Mentoship Program, which helps with teambuilding and battling skill.

There's also the question of which metagame you're playing in, since the Smogon pedigree isn't the only competitive game in town. The tournament format endorsed by GameFreak and Nintendo for their official competitions is the VGC doubles format, which is completley different from the singles gameplay.

The team I use most often species wise is Greninja, Gengar, Skarmory, Forretress, Kangaskhan, Blissey. I also play in OU.

That way it would be easier to help you. And judging by the Pokemon on your team who would be Mega you aren't playing OU but more so Battle Spot Singles.
