TV Tokyo releases trailer for upcoming Pokémon-themed live action drama series Pack Your Pocket With Adventure, first episode goes to air in two weeks

TV Tokyo have released the first trailer for the upcoming new live-action Pokémon-themed drama series Pocket ni Bōken wo Tsumekonde (Pack Your Pocket With Adventure - ポケットに冒険をつめこんで), which will begin airing on Japanese television later this month.

This new show stars Nanase Nishino in the role of Madoka Akagi, a young woman who grew up in Mashiro, a port town in the Kantō region. The character's name Akagi (赤城), which incorporates the character Aka (赤), meaning Red, the protagonist of the first generation games.

The trailer shows off all of the characters previously revealed one month ago together with the announcement of the main cast, and in doing so notably confirms some of the speculation regarding the references being made with certain character's names, specifically:

• Kageaki Hiyama, played by Shō Kasamatsu, is confirmed as being inspired by Charmander
• Kazuchika Kogusuri, played by Tomoharu Hasegawa, who we had not previously speculated on, is apparently inspired by Kangaskhan
• Yōko Meguro, played by Aya Hirano, was previously speculated by Japanese fans to be a reference to Sandile based on her name, but is apparently actually inspired by Ninetales.
• Yūki Koide, played by Ryō Sekoguchi, is inspired by Magikarp as was widely predicted.
• Kōichi Yadoya, played by Muga Tsukaji, is confirmed as being inspired by Slowbro
• Midori Kudō, played by Rio Uchida, is of course a blatant reference to the rival character from the first Generation of Pokémon games, who was known as Green in Japan but was renamed to Blue internationally.
• Masako, played by Eriko Sato, is refered to as a "Psychic Mama", seemingly confirming speculation that the character is inspired by the Jynx players can receive via in-game trade in the original Pokémon Red and Green.

Pocket ni Bōken wo Tsumekonde will air starting October 20th every week on TV Tokyo and associated channels across Japan during the Moku Dra 24 late night programming block at Friday 00:30 Japan Standard Time (written as Thursday 24:30 in Japanese guides, following standard Japanese television industry practice), with a replay on BS TV Tokyo and BS TV Tokyo 4K the following week on Wednesday at 00:00 (Tuesday 24:00). The series will also be available for unlimited streaming via the U-NEXT video streaming platform, and for time-limited catch-up streaming with ads via the Net mo TeleTo and TVer video on demand services.
